Historic Hurricane Florence rips through North Carolina Hurricane Florence rambled through the state last weekend, causing catastrophic flooding and wind damage from the mountains to the coast. Parts of eastern North Carolina are still not accessible and many homes and lives have been torn apart. With damage estimates topping $17 billion, Florence is likely the worst natural disaster in the state’s history. But even before the storm hit, state employees led the way in keeping our citizens informed and safe. SEANC would like to thank all of the employees who worked tirelessly through the storm and since, including those in N.C. Emergency Management, the Departments of Health & Human Safety, Public Safety and Transportation, who kept vital services running throughout. The road to recovery will be long and hard. If you would like to help, check out SEANC’s list of resources that includes information on donating, volunteering, applying for aid and even filing claims with SEANC insurance providers. DHHS announced Thursday that medical professional volunteers are especially needed, including nurses, physicians, behavioral workers and social workers. Register to vote! The November General Election is just around the corner, and the deadline for registering to vote is even sooner. You must be registered to vote by Oct. 12 in order to vote in the Nov. 6 election. You can access a registration form here. Simply complete it and mail it in to your county’s Board of Elections, or drop it off in person. It is imperative that each state employee and retiree vote in this year’s election, so that our voices are heard at the legislature.
