Landscape Design, specifically planning, design, and redevelopment, has been an area of interest for me since I was a child shadowing my father as he drafted outdoor designs for his clients. This passion for executing a well-thought out plan for outdoor environments led me to major in Landscape architecture at the University of Rhode Island. My goals are to build upon my deep understanding in site specific design, and gain post- graduate degrees and experience to understand the intersection of landscape at an urban scale, and its benefits to the overall experience these complex systems provide.

CAPSTONE PROJECT

PUBLIC ST. REDESIGN ABOUT

IN OUR GRADUATION CAPSTONE PROJECT OUR STUDIO FOCUSED ON PUBLIC ST, IN SOUTHERN PROVIDENCE. PUBLIC ST. IS THE ONLY RIGHT AWAY TO THE WATERFRONT IN THIS PART OF PROVIDENCE. WE WERE EACH GIVEN ZONES OF PUBLIC ST. TO CONDUCT DETAILED DESIGN.

DESIGNED WITH THE I-95 UNDERPASS, THIS DESIGN FOCUSED ON WE CAN EXTEND THE COMMUNITY TO THE WATERFRONT, THROUGH HUMAN CENTRIC DESIGN PRINCIPLES. THE MAJOR DESIGN MOVE IS TRANSFORMING THIS UNDERPASS TO A LINEAR PARK, FOCUSING ON ENHANCING THE SOCIAL EXPERIENCE OF PUBLIC ST. AT FACE VALUE SIDEWALKS ARE NOTHING, BUT IN URBAN SETTINGS THEY ARE THE MEANS TO INSTIGATING CONVERSATION, CREATING AWARENESS, AND FURTHER ENHANCING THE COMMUNITIES SOCIAL HEALTH.

Social Shores ABOUT

SOCIAL SHORES IS ABOUT BRINGING PEOPLE TO THE SHORELINE THROUGH WELL-DESIGNED SOCIAL PROGRAMMING FOSTERS A DEEPER CONNECTION WITH THE WATER WHILE PROMOTING ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP. BY CREATING ENGAGING COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES, EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS, AND RECREATIONAL SPACES, THE SHORELINE BECOMES AN ACCESSIBLE AND VIBRANT HUB FOR PUBLIC INTERACTION. SIMULTANEOUSLY, BUFFERING THE INORGANIC SEA WALL WITH A PHYTO-SPONGE— COMPOSED OF RESILIENT, WATER-ABSORBING VEGETATION—ENHANCES COASTAL RESILIENCE, IMPROVES WATER QUALITY, AND SUPPORTS BIODIVERSITY. THIS NATURAL BUFFER NOT ONLY MITIGATES THE IMPACT OF STORM SURGES AND EROSION BUT ALSO SOFTENS THE VISUAL AND ECOLOGICAL DIVIDE BETWEEN URBAN INFRASTRUCTURE AND THE AQUATIC ENVIRONMENT, CREATING A MORE HARMONIOUS AND SUSTAINABLE SHORELINE

Residential Design

ABOUT

The Birch Residence design focused multiple event types from evenings by the fire pit to hot summer days by the pool. The program layout was strategically formulated to allow the birch residence to utilize their entire property. These programs are reinforced by native planting beds, which is an opportunity to enhance the local ecology and further enhance the large idea of creating a better overall environment LINEAR SKETCH - DESIGN PRECEDENT -

FRAMEWORK MODELS

ENHANCE THE LOCAL ECOLOGY EXPERIENCE THE WATERFRONT

The site’s topographic features involve a high point of 56’ and low point of 2’. The coastal side of the site has a 21.86% slope, changing 54’ over the span of 247’ making the waterfront unapproachable.

Site offers two existing circulation routes, the first being the access road that separates the majority of the site from the community buffer. The second path seems anonymously created by human curiosity, showing potential for creating a sense of place on this site.

The site being on the banks of the seekonk river provides stunning visuals, but also places of importance in the neighboring areas. The site’s topographic features provide unique overarching visuals and is being considered as a catalase. Maintaining those views while creating a more usable site, is precedent for the regenerative circulation of this site.
