Company: Young-In Architects Project site: 10 Sewdley street, Lower Clapton Project type: House extension (rear+loft+internal layout) Project value: £ 200,000 Design team: Young-In (Director) + Sihyun Kim (Architecture Assistant) Participation: Concept design | 3D model+CGI | Facade material options | Client meeting | Prepare design report | Site survey | Plan development Project outline: The proposal suggests courtyard at the central of open ground plan as the visual pleasure and break point against the 18m long corridor connection from living room to kitchen. Furthermore, the courtyard rise up to the loft floor to become the unique light well that enhances daylight quality on whole floor and it also becomes vertical visual bridge through skip floor condition.

Floor scheme Adopting existing skip floor condition on first floor, creates 7 floors that are visually connected in vertical with sharing daylight.

Company: Young-In Architects Project site: 49 Lower Kings road, Kingston Project type: Altering use from D1 to C4 Project value: £1m Design team: Young-In (Director) + Sihyun Kim (Architecture Assistant) Participation: Concept drawing | 3D model+CGI | Review regulation | Complete design and access statement | Client design brief meeting | Present pre-application report to the client and consultant Project outline: The property was used for nursery school and the client (Richmond development) now wishes to convert into residential that contains five-six flats. the Boyer (town planner) joins in design process to provide professional consultant and advice for pre-application and planning application.

The proposal reorganise internal layout (two storey use to three storey use) of existing building with side dormer extension, 5m single storey rear and side infill extension, and 3m rear extension at the first floor. Currently, we submitted preapplication to council and we are waiting the result of it.

Design consideration through section

Minor change on front facade to preserve origin character. The proposal adds new side dormer and pulling the central arch window.

Penthouse (top floor flat) will be the key flat to increase property marketing value with private access to roof garden.

Following the degree of pitched angle of existing gable roof.

Moreover, it is also respond to 45 degree rule to minimise daylight issue to neighbour property 51

Neighbour properties already has several loft extension. we believed these dynamic neighbour conditions will justify our proposal as reasonable design.

Company: Young-In Architects + Yeawon Architects Project site: Po-cheon city, South Korea Project type: Town house master plan Project value: £9m Design team: Young-In Oh (Director) + Soo-In Oh (Senior Architect) + Jeong-han Kim (Architect) + Sihyun Kim (Architecture Assistant) Participation: Concept mass study | CGI | Review regulation about building footprint and height limitation | Diagram | Producing design report | Design meeting via zoom | Master plan Project outline: The project required over 130 units of town house proposal that each are around 100m2. The most chanllenging issues were restricted land use regulation due to it is categorised as ‘natural green area’. In Korea, ‘natural green area’ limit maximum Building Footprint (BF) as 20% and also restrict the maximum height no higher than thrid floor.

Moreover, it had orientation problem because the highway was located on south side which makes difficult to produce large south facing flat due to noise.

Company: Yeawon Architect Project site: 8-1 Jungangdong, Wonju city, Gwangwon-do, South Korea Project type: Mix use, new build Project value: £ 22m Design team: Jeanghan Kim (Director) + Sihyun Kim (Architecture Assistant) Participation: feasibility study under regulation | 3D model + CGI | Plan development Project outline: The Wonju city council requested feasible study and conceptual design plan of mix-use apartment. The building scale covers B5-B1 for car park, GF-2F for commercial, 3F for podium garden for residences and 4F-47F three bedroom bases residential.

The proposal design the green cavity in between residential floors and this green layer reduce the vertical pressure of high-rise building. Moreover, it manages good number of car parks and radical separation of car park access between residence and customers for commercial mall.

1 / Access study Main pedestrian access is placed at south where attached to main road and sub pedestrian access at north side. The car access is placed at north due to traffic on south car road.

2 / Car park study The car park is occupied from B1 to B5 and its capacity covers 691 car parks including minimum 360 for 360 units and additional 331 for customers for commercial mall.

3 / Landscape study To encourage communal space use at podium garden, the design proposes different activity zone along with forest walkway.

4 / Unit study The additional internal spaces are gain by adopting extended balcony type. By the result, the each types has 141.2m2 and 138.9m2 respectively which are more than typical size of 3-bedroom flat (109sqm).

Participation: Detail drawing review under supervision | Construction site record | Interior joinery detail with interior design consultant | Tender document review under supervision Project outline: The project is within a land which will be sub-divided into two plots once building completed and both are owned by the Employer. The existing house has occupants and consideration will be required so as not to inconvenience the existing residents.

Currently, I am participating on reviewing site work every week and communicating with interior design contrator for joinery detail.

“Alternative living form of community on edge of coastal landscape”

The liberated ground suggests alternative housing typology equipped with collective infrastructure to accommodate the diverse population flux of Aberdeen. It responds to seasonal use of the coastal landscape near the newly developing harbour in Torry, Aberdeen. It proposes an extension of Torry neighbourhood towards the fluid territory; Wetland Park and coastal landscape.

The proposal forms an inclusive environment that fosters the forming of a more resilient and diverse community, and it activates the ground that has been left obsolete for decades.

This proposed environment demonstrates housing as no longer a home, but as a collective infrastructure and liberated ground is a device that promotes social interaction through a series of collective spaces.

The ground is composed with several architectural platforms including: bridge, plaza, playground, and sports parks. Collection of platforms becomes alternative common ground for everyone, not a division boundary in between certain residence community from other communities and subjects.

Project outline: The project awarded on Gumcheon Fire Station, South Korea, competition on 2017. The design responded to critical timing agenda of firefighter work; depart within 10 sec, golden time of 5 min, 24 hour standing on fire station and 365 days daily living condition of firefighter. In terms of sustainability, the diagonal front mass creates the feasible angle for solar panels that integrated with roof garden.

-ism Design group -ism is a young collective conceived by 6 architecture graduates from different university in London. The objection of the platform encourage own architectural or artistic interest with holding monthly virtual table among the group and providing own design production on the digital platform quartly.

As member of -ism, I am developing own design project related to coastal town. Additionally, I am charging on organising schedule of production and table.

Exhibition How Heavy is the City?

We investigate the Anthropocene and the rise of the technosphere: an emerging figure, a system yet to come whose outlines and contours are beginning to reshape the grounds of the Earth. The technosphere baffles architecture: from within it appears as the result of themultiple projects, designs, actions and processes of humans, within the remit of control and capacity to act. From the outset humans are only a component of it, drawn into its functioning and endeavouring for its sustainment. We start with a simple question: how heavy is a city? The complex answers are activated in conversations with scientists, activists, artists, architects and theorists.
