Driver Charles Pattenden is killed. 5th 1976 The Esplanade Hotel is destroyed by fire. Fire hoses are run into the sea to provide water. 7th 1935 The first passenger services run on the new electrified railway line between London and Seaford. 9th 1985 Seaford Information Office is opened next to the Railway Station. 11th 1915 Plans to build baths at the Martello Tower are approved. 13th 1923 83mm of rain falls in Seaford. 16th 1949 The famous Surrey and England cricketer, Jack Hobbs is the umpire at a cricket match between Seaford Town and Seaford Council. 17th 1862 Seaford Balloonist Henry Coxwell breaks the World Altitude Record when he reaches the height of 8 kilometres. 18th 1545 The Battle of the Buckle when Sir Nicholas Pelham gathered a local force in Seaford to fight off a French incursion. 19th 1907 Edward VII visits Seaford. 24th 1966 King Bhumibol of Thailand visits his son Prince Vajralongkorn at King’s Mead School, Seaford. 26th 1588 The Spanish Armada passes Seaford.
