New Seabrook Gateway Frames Growing Waterfront Area City leaders and residents gathered on Wednesday to commemorate the official opening of the Seabrook gateway sign. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the welcoming archway near the entrance of the city’s waterfront district, known as the Point. “This gateway is but one step in the city’s $7 million improvement effort intended to revitalize a prized coastal section of the city that is primed for expanded development of authentic fish markets and tasty seafood restaurants,” stated Glenn Royal, Mayor of Seabrook. “It is fun projects such as this that make me proud of the growing accomplishments of Seabrook.” The Seabrook gateway is one of eleven frontage signs constructed through Project Stars. Grant monies from the Economic Alliance Houston Port Region and the Houston-Galveston Area Council, along with funding through the city’s half-cent tax dedicated to economic development programs, were used to fund design and construction. Built by Knudson, L.P., the gateway was completed on schedule and contains common elements found in all Project Stars signage that promote Texas history and independence. Economic Alliance Chief Executive Officer, Chad Burke, stated, “These collective gateways bring awareness to our region while promoting heritage tourism.” Each gateway sign is constructed of similar masonry and a replica of the star found atop the San Jacinto monument. The Seabrook sign, located on 10th Street, also includes elements reflecting the city’s nautical legacy.

CERT Training Class Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training begins January 19th thru March 8, 2012, at the La Porte Police Station. Training sessions cover disaster preparedness, fire suppression, basic disaster medical operations, light search and rescue, disaster psychology, team organization and terrorism. With this training, CERT teams played a vital role in providing support to jurisdictions throughout the region following Hurricane Ike in 2008. If needed following a disaster, these citizen-responders use their training as part of a neighborhood or workplace team to help others when first responders are overwhelmed or not immediately available. CERT members provide immediate assistance to victims in their area, organize spontaneous volunteers who have not had the training, and collect disaster intelligence that will assist first responders with prioritization and allocation of resources when they arrive. The training is hosted by the La Porte Office of Emergency Management and will begin Thursday, January 19, 2012 for eight weeks. The Seabrook and La Porte CERT teams recently joined together to form BayCERT to help increase awareness of CERT in the Bay Area. For more information about the upcoming class contact the La Porte Office of Emergency Management (281) 470-0010, www.lpoem.org or Ronica Hall 281-326-5644 ronicahall@hotmail.com

From COMCAST Xfinity - Upcoming Contract Renewals Most of the channels that we offer our customers are owned by media companies other than Comcast. We obtain the rights to carry those channels pursuant to contracts with those companies. In the next 2 months, our contracts for the channels listed below may expire. We fully expect that we will be able to reach an agreement with the owners of these channels to continue carrying them well into the future; Comcast has successfully renegotiated thousands of expiring contracts over the years without ever experiencing an interruption of service. Should that situation change, details will be provided at this site. http://xfinity.comcast.net/learn/programming/
