DOUG KNOX TEAM DONATES TO SABAL SPRINGS PICKLEBALL

Doug Knox has long been a familiar name here in Sabal Springs as a real estate agent, but also as a supporter of many things. This being said, Doug Knox (239-980-2158), Dana Knox and Matt Makousky of the Doug Knox real estate Re/Max team have agreed to help support the pickleball group by donating $300.00 of each home sale in Sabal Springs to this cause. The support started in January of 2024 and Doug said they would continue through next year. On August 20th after the S.S. H.O.A. meeting, a check was presented to the S.S.P.B.A. of $7500.00. This support means so very much to this organization as they continue with fundraisers to build pickleball courts for S.S. community.

AED DONATION

The Pickleball Association has purchased an additional AED. It has been placed on the wall in the hallway, behind the door to the tennis bathrooms. A great big THANK YOU for this donation!

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS COMMITTEE

First the committee wants to recognize and thank Peter Kwaak for all his help throughout the community in assisting with generators. He’s always there when someone calls. Thanks again Peter!

Committee members Pat Convery and Linn Campbell with liaison Kathy Kwaak went to the NFMFD to honor them with a lunch from Mission BBQ for all their help and continued support of this community. They had a good time and of course enjoyed the food!

Smaller classes on AED will be given by our liaison from the NFMFD Cristy for the following groups: restaurant employees, tennis, pickleball, pool, shuffleboard, all golf groups, golf course employees, cards, billiards, yoga, arts and crafts and singles club. If anyone feels that we have maybe missed a group that needs to be included please let anyone on the EPC know ASAP. Please contact anyone on the EPC also to discuss a date and time for a class for your group. Times and dates will be announced through eblasts and on our bulletin boards (just outside the HOA office).

We want to announce the TOY DRIVE at this time too, we are pushing for a start either at the end of October or beginning of November. Last year this community did such an amazing job it was wonderful. We collected hundreds, yes hundreds of toys. Remember these toys stay right here in North Fort Myers. They are for ages infant to 18 non wrapped toys. The boxes will be placed throughout the neighborhood please look for them and let’s fill them up again multiple times as we did last year! Thank you.

FLORIDA VACATION DESTINATIONS by

Need a break from your daily life’s hustle and bustle? My son and I recently found some fun vacation spots just a few hours from home. “Well-hidden within the sun-drenched landscape of Florida lies a little slice of tranquility that promises to wash away your stress with its gentle currents.”

Ginnie Springs Outdoors in High Springs offers a serene escape that seems to have mastered the art of relaxation. It offers a lazy river tubing experience that is quite possibly the epitome of unwinding!

Ginnie Springs is a natural wonderland that boasts some of the clearest waters you’ll ever lay eyes on. Crystal-clear springs, a variety of wildlife, and the lush greenery create a backdrop so idyllic it seems as if it was plucked straight out of a dream. The main attraction here is undoubtedly the lazy river tubing adventure, where you can float down the Santa Fe River with no care in the world.

You can find information about this and many other Florida “getaways” online at Florida Family Destinations Guide Florida (familydestinationsguide.com)

HALLOWEEN From Bing

Will be celebrated on Thursday October 31st, this year. Halloween has a rich history that dates back over 2000 years to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (a Gaelic word pronounced “sow-win”). It is a pagan religious festival originating from an ancient Celtic spiritual tradition. It is usually celebrated from October 31st to November 1st to welcome in the harvest and usher in “the dark half of the year.” Celebrants believe that the barriers between the physical world and the spirit world break down during Samhain, allowing more interaction between humans and denizens of the Otherworld. The Celts, who lived in what is now Ireland, the United Kingdom, and northern France, celebrated their new year on November 1st. They believed that on the night before, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred, and the ghosts of the dead returned to earth.

To ward off these spirits, people would light bonfires and wea costumes. This tradition evolved over time, especially after the Roman Empire conquered Celtic territories and incorporated their own festivals into Samhain. By the 8th century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1st as All Saints’ Day, and the night before became known as All Hallows’ Eve, eventually shortened to Halloween.

Modern Halloween is a blend of these ancient traditions and newer customs like trick or treating, carving jacko’-lanterns, and wearing costumes. It’s time for festive gatherings, spooky decorations, and enjoying sweet treats.
