PAUL WILLIAM (BILL) HARE
Personal
memories were coaching youth football, boys 12/13 up to 120 lbs. This was my life for 13 years. My teams were invited to participate in the National Football Federation games in Atlantic City Convention Hall. As young men, these boys and parents helped develop the person I am today. I attended the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School and later Penn State University, studies included accounting and business law.
Working Career
Born and raised in a small railroad town in the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania area. Participated in athletic programs in high school and was once judged best dancer of my class of 49! Member of the lettermen group, played in the band, sang in the choir, and led the senior high yearbook committee. Following in my father’s footsteps, became active with the community youth athletic league. First serving as Treasure later as President. Was named board member of the community recreation board later becoming president. I coached little league baseball and later umpired teenage baseball. My most fond
I began my working career at a local bank, first as a teller, then promoted to the audit department and later was named chief accountant responsible for daily financial transactions, financial statements, federal funds investing, and merger activities. With the advent of Medicare in 1966 changed careers and was employed by Capital Blue Cross to establish the accounting policies and procedures for new Federal Healthcare Plans, Medicare, Medicaid and CHAMPUS. Latter appointed as first Internal Auditor. I was recognized for my leadership and was recruited to the Blue Cross Association in Chicago. This was a traveling consulting position to train accountants to install a new automated accounting system for Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans across the nation. I then found myself named National Medicare Manager for a Facility Management, Information Technology, and Consulting Company, later becoming Vice President of Marketing and Consulting Services. This opportunity allowed me to learn how the Federal and State Governments procure Healthcare Contracts. I became an expert at writing winning proposals for the award of these RFP contracts. With this new found knowledge I started my own management consulting company and for nearly 20 years I was engaged by the largest and most aggressive healthcare and IT companies bidding for the award of these billion-dollar Government Healthcare contracts. I sold my company in 2005 and retired. While living in a Chicago area community I was asked to consult with the HOA Treasure, as certain accounting issues needed attention. I also audited the HOA books for several years preparing audit reports of findings and recommendations to the HOA board.
More Personal Information
Married my high school sweetheart, Joanne, and our marriage lasted over 60 years until she died in 2021. We have two boys and one girl. I lost my daughter to cancer in 2018. Joanne I were snow birds for many years, first with trips to Ft Lauderdale, then a purchased condo in Weston, Florida. In 2016 we found Sabal Springs, in N Ft Myers, Florida and fell in love with this community. We purchased our home at 3805 Sabal Spring Blvd. with the
idea of it being our winter home. That changed in 2018 when Joanne became too sick to make the trips back to Illinois. After a few years of caregiving, I am ready for some new challenges and new life. I have been helping with the Sabal Springs Breeze Newsletter authoring a few articles each month. I have great neighbors that help support this first-time bachelor. Enjoy our local golf course and clubhouse. While living in the Weston Condo, I was asked to assist the HOA board with reserve accounting needs and I also conducted a review of the contracted management company services.
My interest to become a Sabal Springs Board Member I believe my education, business work experience, and past community activities will be viewed as important traits to the benefit of the Sabal Springs community. I have been a business leader and my entrepreneurship shows that I have the ability to work with all types of people. I am prepared to assist the HOA board to identify problems and develop workable solutions in concert with our community desires. Let’s all work towards “Unity for the Community”. If elected, and should the board select me as the next Treasure, you can be assured your fees will be in trusted hands with a complete and honest accounting to include full transparency to the community. This is my pledge to each Sabal Springs resident.

From 2013-2016 and 2018-23, I have had the honor to serve on the Sabal Springs HOA Board of Directors. In 2013-16, I served as Vice President and in 2018-22 as Secretary. From 2022-23 I was Vice President again. During that time, there have been many positive changes and a few not so positive.
Over the years, we have faced many challenges: two severe hurricanes that took down our walls and damaged
our clubhouse roof, as well as many of our homes; an old irrigation system in constant need of repair and a virus that shut us down. We have had restaurant vendors who excited us with great food and good service and those that disappointed us. We have seen boards that worked well together and some that did not.
However, we, as a community, have always managed to move forward. We made repairs to our clubhouse roof and continue to work on replacing our perimeter walls and fences. We replaced the water tank. We updated our bathrooms and restaurant and continue to improve the golf course and common areas. The market value of our homes has never been higher.
As a past board member, I know firsthand what can be accomplished when a board works together; when respect for each other’s opinions, ideas, strengths and talents and a willingness to compromise for the betterment of our community, are regarded as important factors. I have also seen what happens when all board members are not included in decisions; when communication breaks down and decisions are made by two or three members with no input from or respect for the rest of the board.
If elected, I will use my past board experiences and commitment to work with all board members, for the betterment of our community and to continue to move Sabal Springs forward in a positive direction.

I have lived a life of service. From the time I was 18 and entered the Marine Corps, I have been involved with my community. I am extremely organized. I have decades of experience dealing with adults and juveniles. I am a handson person and can easily delegate.
I have lived in Sabal Springs for almost 5 years. We live in a wonderful community that is the envy of all that visit. Our amenities are superb, and costs (dues) are in line or lower with other communities. I am forward-thinking and would like to help Sabal Springs grow into an even better community. Recognize all the great things that our HOA has achieved and build on those accomplishments.
HOA is not a lifetime of service. It is a shared service to our community. Each person contributes. We need to encourage new members and younger members to get involved.

THE FINAL CURTAIN
By Loretta Gehman
Tuesday, January 9th, 2024, brought down the final curtain on the 12th Annual Sabal Springs Golf Cart Parade when the committee made the presentation of checks to the North Fort Myers High School Music Department and the JROTC. Committee members Doug Pechstein, Patsy Clark and Loretta Gehman met with Principal Diggs at 9:00 A.M. and were taken first to the band room where Sara Johnson had the student band members practicing. Doug expressed our community’s disappointment due to the band not being a part of our celebration this year since our clubhouse was closed to the public. Mrs. Johnson was quick to point out that the students were equally disappointed not to be able to participate in our parade. They love the atmosphere of our community and the volunteers who feed them hot dogs and the plentiful baked goods provided by the residents of this great community. Loretta, on behalf of the generous Sabal Springs parade goers, presented a total of $3,021.00 to the music department. The kids could be heard expressing surprise at the large amount of money being donated and their applause signaled their appreciation.
Next, we were ushered to the JROTC classroom where the students were assembled for class. The two gentlemen in charge of this group, Ron Cluff and Robert Hightower, are perfect examples of exactly the type of people necessary to mold our youth into leaders. What a respectful, great group of kids. Patsy presented a total of $1,450.00 to the JROTC this year. Below is a photo of the hierarchy of the group. From left to right: Ava Rivas, Cadet Major; Emma Holmes, Command Sergeant Major; Andrew DeOreo, Lt. Colonel; Bradyn Metzger, Battalion XO; Christian Mason, Battalion Command Sergeant Major.
All three of the committee members present at the school today came away with the same thought, our teenagers at North Fort Myers High School are impressive young adults with good people guiding them down the proper path. Thanks to your generosity, uniforms will be bought, instruments will be cleaned, music will be purchased and the kids will gain memories of what it means to give and receive while being responsible citizens.
DEAR RESIDENTS OF SABAL SPRINGS
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all. We hope that you all had a fabulous year and holiday with your friends and family. We were so sad that we weren't able to join you for your parade this year. Hopefully your clubhouse can be fixed soon and will be up and running.
We have been busy and have had a really terrific first semester at North Fort Myers High School so far this year. We came back to school with a record number of freshmen and sophomores in band, making us the biggest class that North has had. During the fall, our marching band put on our competitive marching band show called "Around the World." It featured one of our wonderful actresses for North High in a massive hot air balloon (which we built for the football field) and featured music from other cultures like Spain, parts of Asia and Egypt as the balloon made its way around the world. The show ended with a return to America. It was a WONDERFUL season. This year, when we went to our Marching Band State Championships in Tampa, North High progressed into the Finals Round of Championships! The first time EVER in North history! We got 5th place! It was the highlight of the semester and was a terrific way to wrap up a long (and very hot marching band season). We then ended the semester with our holiday concert, performing to a packed auditorium house.
Semester two should be filled with more exciting adventures. We will debut our high school musical, "All Shook Up" in the first weekend of February which will feature some of our top musicians in our live orchestral pit. We will prepare music for our Jazz band and Concert Assessments in February and March. Our Indoor Percussion and Indoor Color Guard ensembles are beginning their seasons which will see them travel across the state to perform their shows. We are hoping to come and play for you sometime this spring. We will wrap up the semester with a guest jazz artist from New York for our jazz band concerts on April 27 and our end of the year Concert on April 30.
As always, NONE of this is possible without communities like yours. You have always been so generous and supportive of our school and band program. That doesn't go unnoticed and makes a HUGE impact on the success of our students and the quality of our music. We are so grateful for the relationship between North High and Sabal Springs and look forward to continuing that in the future. Thank you so much for what you have done for our program!
Sincerely, The Students & Director of the North Fort Myers Band Program

EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS COMMITTEE
By Linn Campbell
We hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!
The committee also wants to give a big thanks to all of you who contributed toys for the kids of North Fort Myers. Great job everyone! Since it was such a success we plan on doing it again this year.
Thank you for all the support for the committee on its first year of performance. We worked hard on plans to keep all of Sabal Springs safe.
We have some more things we are going to be working on this year and we will keep you all posted as we complete them. You can also check our progress by looking at the bulletin board at the Club House.
GOLFERS “JUST WANNA HAVE FUN”, AKA JOKER’S WILD GROUP
By Donna Milbee
for the Emergency Preparedness Committee, for which Mike is Co-Chair. The Jokers were very involved in getting the community prepared for Hurricane Ian and cleanup afterward, which most of them have signed up to do in the event of another disaster. Hopefully you read in last month’s Breeze about their most recent donation of a new mower to help with golf course maintenance.
The group organizes fun golf outings to raise money for many charities like Tunnel to Towers, an outreach for First Responders. One of those outings was December 2nd, reported also in the Breeze.
SABAL SPRINGS ARTS AND CRAFTS JAN. LUNCHEON
by Mary Ann Baillargeon
On Jan. 9th, 2024, the Arts & Crafts Group met at the Shell Factory for our luncheon.
We started the meeting with the pledge of allegiance.
Imagine a couple of golfers at the back bar resting after a rough round of league play. With each beer they imagined ways that playing could be more fun. Thus the Joker's Wild Golf group was begun by Perry Swan and Mike Temme. The group has grown to 40 members as fellow golfers joined to have some good times and even more. It’s a close group of friends who also help other members or their families in times of sickness or need.
When I met with Perry Swan and Mike Temme it was like a Mid Westerners Reunion realizing we all had history in Indiana. Perry is an electrician who has lived in Sabal Springs for 9 years. Mike has just been here since 2018 and works in the pro shop on Fridays. They say The Joker’s Wild is just "a group of guys who like to play golf, have fun doing it, having a few drinks afterwards and helping our community."
And so, they have had fun and helped, in the few years since that inception in early 2020, donating money and man-power to remodel the Sabal Springs Golf pro shop and improvements for the golf maintenance area. The members have volunteered for parking lot duty for events like Trash & Treasures and the Arts & Crafts Fair. They have donated to the tree project, the Women's Golf League charity and supplies
Lunch choices were Soup w/1/2 wrap, cobb salad, fish sandwich. All included dessert iced tea or water.
Mary Ann Baillargeon read the Secretary report which was read and approved.
Sandy Cocca read the Treasures report which was read and approved.
Linda Voto gave each of us a Ramen package of chicken soup which was the topic of the day. Chicken soup is very healthy for you.
We acknowledged 4 birthdays and 4 anniversaries in Jan.
We welcomed a new resident, Julie MacCleod
Linda discussed the upcoming Fashion Show, which will be in March before the 24th and probably on a weekday. She is currently on hold for a response of the venue.
The other item to discuss is Trash and Treasure, it has been decided to move it to January of 2025. Sandy Cocca and Deb Collins will co-chair.
Our next meeting will be on Monday, February 5th at The Brunch Place, at 11am. Look for more announcements to follow.
Show and Tell:
Deb Denial showed 2 Christmas table runners and a basket she made.
Janice Lambert displayed 2 wreaths, one Valentine and one Mardi Gras themed.

WINNERS CROWNED
By Lorretta Gehman
If it’s cloudy, drizzly, windy and chilly, it’s January in Florida during an El Nino pattern year and it’s an SSLGA tournament week. So, it was all of those weather-related phenomena that were present on Wednesday, January 10th and Thursday, January 11th, but the twenty-three two person teams played the competition anyway. There were seventeen (17) eighteen-hole teams and six (6) ninehole teams registered for the second event of the SSLGA season. There were four different games played during the competition which were alternate shot, a shamble, best ball and a scramble. The winners were announced at a luncheon held at The Shell Factory after play was completed on Thursday. They were as follows:
