Nourishing Beginnings: Embracing A Healthier Lifestyle

Submitted by Gabriela DePalma

Hello Eagle Ridge residents! As we enthusiastically step into the bright canvas of a new year, let’s embark on a collective journey toward well-being and vitality. Join us as we explore the transformative power of mindful eating, embracing locally sourced delights, and fostering a culture of wellness that will undoubtedly make this year one of vibrancy and good health.

Sunrise Strolls And Health Goals

Start your mornings with a refreshing sunrise stroll along the Caloosahatchee River or through the scenic trails of Lakes Park. In this city of perpetual sunshine, there’s no better way to kickstart your day and invigorate your health.

Farm-To-Table Feasts

Fort Myers is a treasure trove of local flavors, and our farmers’ markets are a testament to that. This year, let’s pledge to infuse our plates with the goodness of locally

sourced produce. From vibrant fruits to nutrient-rich vegetables, these markets offer a rainbow of options to elevate our nutrition game. Let the colors on your plate reflect the diverse offerings of our community.

Mindful Meals At Home

In the spirit of nurturing our health, consider bringing the farm-to-table experience into your own kitchen. Experiment with fresh, local ingredients to create meals that are not only delicious but also packed with nutritional goodness. Swap out processed foods for whole, unprocessed options, and savor the satisfaction of preparing wholesome meals for you and your loved ones.

Eagle Ridge Ladies On The Links Welcome New Eagle Ridge Residents!

The Eagle Ridge Wednesday Morning Ladies’ Golf League is in full operation, but with some minor changes. Our leaders for the last few years will be joining another golf course so Jill Burchill and Barb Baker have stepped in to run league activities.

Each week of play will involve fun golf events that all levels of players will enjoy. There is no annual league fee, so feel free to play as few or as many times between Jan. 3 and the end of the league season on March 27. Sign up in the women’s locker room by Sunday at noon for play on the following Wednesday. Players will receive an email with their tee time and foursome members on Monday. Tee times start at 8:15 a.m. each Wednesday. It costs $2 each week to participate in the event plus $.50 for the chip in pot. All of the event monies collected will be paid out to event winners. Just pay your green fees at the pro shop desk (either member or nonmember), stop by the table where Barb or Jill will be collecting event monies and then join your foursome to enjoy the fun. Feel free to bring guests too.

On Jan. 31, Feb. 28 and March 27 we will have a shotgun start with a luncheon at the clubhouse. Cash prices for the winners of each week’s events will be awarded at the luncheons.

We continue to welcome new members to the league. It is not too late to join in on the fun and competition. Contact Jill Burchill at (651) 216-3587 or jilldburchill@gmail.com if you need more information.

Security Central

The biggest problem in the Eagle Ridge Community is the speed at which cars move through the community. The speed limit is 25 mph and few people follow this speed. I am the first house as you enter the community and I see them race down the street. Please remember that our streets are very narrow and there are people walking, people walking their dogs and biking. Keep the speed down and keep your eyes on the road. I try to have the sheriff’s office with a marked car in the community a few times a month.

Eagle Ridge Residents

Jogging, bicycling, walking and other nongolfing activities or unregistered golf play are not permitted on the golf course.

Mailbox Maintenance And Repair

Registration Now Open For 26th Annual Minnesota Twins Golf Classic On Feb. 15

The Annual Event Will Support Lee Health Cancer Institute

On Feb. 15 the annual Minnesota Twins Golf Classic will be back in full “swing.”

At the 2024 event, golfers will raise funds in support of Lee Health Cancer Institute’s lifesaving programs.

The tournament will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. at Topgolf in Fort Myers, located at 2021 Topgolf Way. Participants of all ages and skill levels are invited to participate in the annual event. In addition to a fun game of golf, the event will feature in-game competitions and prizes, and the opportunity to interact with multiple Minnesota Twins celebrities.

Funds raised at the event will benefit Lee Health Cancer Institute and its treatment, research, education, state-of-the-art technology and innovations. Through donations and support, the institute is able to provide top-of-the-line comprehensive services and programs to locals who are battling cancer, as well as their families who are supporting them through their treatment. Lee Health Cancer Institute bridges the gap between cancer care and financial difficulties by providing qualified uninsured and underinsured patients with care.

For mailbox and lamppost repairs, please contact Tim Townsend, (740) 403-0983 or email timtownsend72@yahoo. com. Mailbox doors have a closure spring that eventually breaks after thousands of openings. It is important to replace them as soon as they are discovered as they usually result in a broken door, which is a much more expensive repair. The cost of installing a new spring is $34. If the door casting breaks, it costs an additional $112 to repair the door. There are also specially manufactured flagpole holders to match the lampposts. They are available for $89 installed. Your mailbox and lamppost can also be repainted for $49, which will bring them back to their “like-new” appearance.

Girl Scout Cookie Season Is Here!

Five years after Juliette Gordon Low founded the Girl Scouts in 1912, young girls (with the help of their mothers) begin baking cookies at home and selling them to support their troop activities.

In July of 1922, a magazine titled The American Girl , published by the Girl Scouts, printed a recipe for a shortbread cookie with the suggestion that these be sold for fundraisers. It was estimated that the cost of the ingredients was 26 to 36 cents for six or seven dozen. Throughout the coming years Girl Scouts made simple sugar cookies at home, packaged them in wax paper with a sticker, and sold them door to door for 25 to 35 cents per dozen.

Girl Scouts sell cookies each year as a fundraiser to support camping trips, STEM projects and entrepreneurial pursuits among other activities. Selling season is January through April. Cookie season already began in Southwest Florida on Jan. 3. If you know a Girl Scout, they can purchase cookies online for you; otherwise cookies will be sold at booths.

To find where cookies will be sold in your area enter www.gsgcf.org/en/cookies.html in your web browser and type your zip code in the box underneath the words Find Cookies!

Flavors available to be sold include the following:

• Adventurefuls ® (“…brownie inspired cookies topped with caramel flavored crème with a hint of sea salt”)

• Do-si-dos ® (“Oatmeal sandwich cookies with peanut butter filling”)

• Gluten-free Toffee-tastic® (“Rich buttery cookies with sweet, toffee crunchy bits”)
