Save The Date, Feb. 13, 2024 For Strolling Flower Show
Submitted by Jody Van Cooney
The annual strolling flower show, presented by the Fort Myers-Lee County Garden Council, will be held on Feb. 13, 2024, in the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center, 2301 First St., Fort Myers, Fla., between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

“Awesome Blossoms,” this year’s theme, is free to the public; donations will be accepted to help defray show expenses. The public will serve as the judges for the three entry categories – most tropical, best interpretation of the theme, and my favorite design. The three winners will be announced at a future thank you luncheon. The featured artist for the show is Heidi Love Larranz.
The Strolling Flower Show has a long history of being presented annually by the Periwinkle Garden Club, a member of the Garden Council. Space for show arrangements is limited; designers from the various Garden Council affiliates should request a space from Anina Bachrach, aninabach@aol.com no later than Jan. 15. Sponsors for the show are being sought and should contact aninabach@aol.com.
The Fort Myers-Lee County Garden Council was formed in 1957 and comprises various clubs, societies, and affiliate members in the area. The council assists in educating and beautifying the community and improving the environment. The council is a member of the National Garden Clubs, the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs, and American Public Gardens.
For additional information about the council and the Strolling Flower Show, contact Susan Fero, SDF40@aol.com.

Counseling For Community Wellness Announces Dr. Yaro Garcia As Executive Director
Submitted by Matt Visaggio
Counseling for Community Wellness (CCW), an innovative and evidence-based approach for mental health and wellness in Southwest Florida, is thrilled to introduce Dr. Yaro Garcia, Ph.D., LMHC, as executive director. Garcia, a nationally recognized expert in human trafficking and a steadfast advocate for mental health since 2009, brings a wealth of expertise in identifying and addressing gaps in treatment, law enforcement investigations, and services. Her accolades and roles, including her service as a nationally appointed consultant for the Office on Trafficking in Persons and the National Human Trafficking Training and Technical Assistance Center, underscore her dedication and proficiency in the field.
In conjunction with this pivotal moment, CCW is delighted to share its official designation as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides mental health community-based supervision for graduate level mental health counselors deployed to serve clients at partner agency locations where the need may be greatest.
CCW Founder and President, Dr. Alise Bartley, stated, “With increased availability and the training of new providers, we are on a promising path toward better mental health for all. It’s essential to continue supporting these advancements and advocating for mental health awareness and care.”
CCW enhances the opportunities for mental health and wellness in the community, providing counseling services in collaboration with collaborating nonprofits and nurturing the growth of emerging mental health professionals. The organization remains steadfast in its mission to heal and nurture a community where mental health support enables the region’s broader economic and societal growth.
Garcia shared optimistic sentiments, stating, “Accessible community mental health counseling is a beacon of hope, illuminating the path to healing and resilience. Through collaboration we increase access to treatment and services that support the well-being of those in need.”
“We are proud of the efforts that Dr. Bartley has made in pioneering a new way to support people with their mental health challenges,” shared Joanne Uyeno, president and co-founder of the Uyeno Foundation. “She is overseeing the future growth and development of local mental health practitioners in our community while stepping into the fray to serve and care for the growing number of individuals and children who need access to mental healthcare. We are excited to see the addition of Dr. Garcia to the organization.”
CCW invites the community to celebrate this significant milestone and to join them in their ongoing journey towards accessible mental health wellness through community partnerships. To learn more about CCW, its mission, team, and partnerships, visit www.counselingcw.org. To learn more about the Uyeno Foundation, please visit www.uyenofoundation.org.
About The Uyeno Foundation

You live in a small community

– Eagle Ridge Community. We always need to remember to drive slowly on the street. The streets are very narrow. We have people walking, people walking dogs, and bikers. The roads are very narrow, and you need to be very aware of people on the road. The speed limit is 25 mph, please drive slowly.

Please do not leave trash containers, ladders, etc., where they are visible from the street.
Also do not place containers or yard waste out to the curb more than 24 hours before the scheduled weekly pickups.

Mailbox Maintenance And Repair
For mailbox and lamppost repairs, please contact Tim Townsend, (740) 403-0983 or email timtownsend72@yahoo. com. Mailbox doors have a closure spring that eventually breaks after thousands of openings. It is important to replace them as soon as they are discovered as they usually result in a broken door, which is a much more expensive repair. The cost of installing a new spring is $34. If the door casting breaks, it costs an additional $112 to repair the door. There are also specially manufactured flagpole holders to match the lampposts. They are available for $89 installed. Your mailbox and lamppost can also be repainted for $49, which will bring them back to their “like-new” appearance.
