A Note From The DOR
We wanted to remind/suggest to all the homeowners leaving the community for the spring/summer/hurricane season: We suggest you have a relative, friend or hire a service to do biweekly checks on your homes. Most of our homes’ plumbing is 34-plus years old and subject to burst pipes and/or leaks. Of course consult a plumber, but we suggest turning off your water. We have experienced more and more catastrophic damage to homes from leaks/flooding this year.
Consumer Alert
In The Checkout Line
Buying Gift Cards?
Read On To Avoid A Scam
If you’re in the checkout line with a gift card (or several) in your hand, ask yourself: Is the gift card you’re buying for a gift? Or is someone on the phone with you as you’re checking out telling you what to do – like buy a gift card to pay for something and give them the numbers? Gift cards are only for gifts. That means if the gift card isn’t for someone’s birthday, anniversary, or for any other gift giving reason, it’s a scam.
Gift card scammers only want your money. First they’ll call, text, email, or send a social media message. Then comes a made-up story: They’re from the government (pay taxes or a fine), tech support (something’s wrong with your computer – pay to fix it), or you’ve won a prize (but pay for it first). Other scammers might use AI voice cloning to sound like a family member in trouble. It’s always urgent. They always want you to act fast or something bad will happen. And it’s always a scam.
Think you gave gift card numbers to a scammer? Act fast. Grab your gift card and the gift card receipt.
• Report the gift card scam to the gift card company. It doesn’t matter when the scam happened. Use this link
Please remove all plants, furniture or anything that could be a projectile from your lanai or around your home in the event of bad weather. Hurricane season is June 1 to Nov. 30. Have a great spring/summer. Safe travels to all!
Thank you! DOR Committee

– bit.ly/48GKNdF – which will take you to the How To Contact Gift Card Companies section of the Avoiding and Reporting Gift Card Scams web page. There is a list of specific companies that sell gift cards and instructions on how to contact the company to report a gift card scam.
• Ask for your money back. Some companies are helping stop gift card scams and might give your money back. Always ask.
• Tell the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. Your report makes a difference and helps protect people in your community from fraud and scams.
• Remember: gift cards are only for gifts. If it’s for anything else, like to pay to fix any problem for any reason, it’s a scam.
Visit ftc.gov/gift cards to learn more. Share this information with your friends, family and community to help stop gift card scams.

May 8, 6 to 9 p.m.
Member’s price – $10, nonmember’s price – $12
1946: The Mistranslation That Shifted Culture is a feature documentary that follows the story of tireless researchers who trace the origins of the anti-gay movement among Christians to a grave mistranslation of the Bible in 1946. It chronicles the discovery of never-before-seen archives at Yale University which unveil astonishing new revelations, and casts significant doubt on any biblical basis for LGBTQIA+ prejudice. Featuring commentary from prominent scholars as well as opposing pastors, including the personal stories of the film’s creators, 1946 is at once challenging, enlightening, and inspiring.

Gorillas Versus Humans
Why we can’t get all of our nutrients from plants
Gorillas have a colon that is two to three times larger than their small intestine. A large colon is suitable for breaking down fibrous plants and the cellulose to be converted into energy. Their big belly is necessary to accommodate a large colon. They eat about 40 pounds of food every day; they are considered hind gut fermenters having a specialized digestive system for eating plants. Humans on the other hand have a colon that is half the size of their small intestine. The small intestine is suitable for dense, smaller volume foods and cannot digest cellulose, it passes right through the body. A big belly is not necessary and is associated with poor health. Lesser volume of food is required. Humans are opportunistic feeders, and prefer eating nutrient dense food, meat, but can also eat plants when meat is not available.
I chose to eat like a gorilla for 16 months. The initial cleansing effect from eating all fruit and plants was welcomed. However, overtime I never felt satiated or satisfied. I was always hungry and my health suffered. My digestive system was always churning, energy was never balanced and I became depressed. It was very disappointing because I worked really hard at what I had been told was the best nutrition for myself and I even recommending this type of diet to my patients. Safely transitioning into eating a more ancestrally appropriate diet for a human being may be one of the most important decisions you can make to decrease pain and inflammation, increase energy levels, and prevent cognitive decline and dementia.

The travelers are still here in Fort Myers. They will be leaving around the first weeks in May. Remember that the speed limit in the community is 25 miles per hour. Please stay to that speed. You must be careful of the community people that are walking their dogs and biking. The streets are narrow and drivers must be careful and drive at 25 miles per hour.
Cooking By Connie
By Connie Hope
What is April known for? April 1 is April Fool’s Day and Alcohol Awareness Month. It is also Fresh Florida Tomatoes Month.
Here is a Tomato-Onion Chutney recipe to try.
Tomato-Onion Chutney
2 ½ cups chopped onions (I like to use red onions.)
1 teaspoon mustard seeds, roasted
3 ½ tablespoons butter or margarine
1 (14-ounce) can of tomatoes, drained. Make sure they are diced in smaller pieces.
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar or malt vinegar
2 tablespoons minced fresh parsley leaves
1 tablespoon sugar
⅛ teaspoon ground allspice
In a heavy skillet, cook onions in butter over a medium heat.
Cook until the mixture of onions has turned golden. Add the tomatoes, the vinegar, the sugar, the allspice, and roasted mustard seeds.
Cook mixture, stirring with a wooden spoon until the chutney has thickened.
Add the parsley and salt and pepper to taste. Can be refrigerated up to a week.
Enjoy!

Pets must be on a leash at all times when being walked outside of the owner’s property boundaries. The pet owner is responsible for picking up all animal waste from their pet at all times. This includes the common areas! Violators are subject to fining.
Mailbox Maintenance And Repair
For mailbox and lamppost repairs, please contact Tim Townsend, (740) 403-0983 or email timtownsend72@yahoo. com. Mailbox doors have a closure spring that eventually breaks after thousands of openings. It is important to replace them as soon as they are discovered as they usually result in a broken door, which is a much more expensive repair. The cost of installing a new spring is $34. If the door casting breaks, it costs an additional $112 to repair the door. There are also specially manufactured flagpole holders to match the lampposts. They are available for $89 installed. Your mailbox and lamppost can also be repainted for $49, which will bring them back to their “like-new” appearance.
