California Lawmakers Approve $2.8 Billion to Strengthen Medi-Cal, Expanding Access to Health Care

California lawmakers have approved a $2.8 billion funding boost to Medi-Cal, the state’s low-income health insurance program, to cover higher-than-expected costs before the fiscal year ends. Passed April 10 as part of a budget trailer bill, Assembly Bill (AB) 100, the allocation unlocks $8.3 billion in federal funds and follows a $3.4 billion emergency loan to the program earlier this year. Medi-Cal, which serves around 15 million residents, has faced surging costs due to expensive pharmaceutical drugs, lingering COVID-era policies, and a larger-than-anticipated caseload. The total Medi-Cal budget for 2024 was $161 billion.

In addition to Medi-Cal funding, the bill included emergency support for areas impacted by the recent wildfires in

In the first 100 days, the Trump administration has made good on its promise to crack down on immigration numbers. Across the nation, this has manifested in slashing asylum access, revoking student visas, authorizing mass deportations, and ramping up surveillance and defense sources at the border.

Since last October, border crossings in San Diego have decreased by about 88% according to data from the U.S. Border Patrol.

Obama made it clear that her choices had nothing to do with marital discord.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama is setting the record straight about her marriage, brushing off rumors of a split from former President Barack Obama and calling out the sexist assumptions that fueled them. In part two of her appearance on the “Work in Progress” podcast hosted by Sophia Bush, Michelle Obama addressed the online speculation that ramped up earlier this year when Barack Obama appeared alone at several high-profile events, including the funeral for former President Jimmy Carter and the inauguration of Donald Trump. Critics quickly jumped to conclusions — but Michelle

“This year people couldn’t even fathom that I was making a choice for myself,” Obama said. “They had to assume that my husband and I are divorcing. This couldn’t be a grown woman just making a set of decisions for herself, right?”

She added, “That’s what society does to us. We start actually finally going, ‘What am I doing? Who am I doing this for?’ And if it doesn’t fit into the stereotype of what people think we should do, then it gets labeled as something negative and horrible.”

The suit is backed by attorneys general from 20 other states.

Deportations and Detentions in San Diego

As migrant arrivals plummet, San Diego finds itself navigating a new immigration reality, shaped by a polarized political climate, legal uncertainty, and rising fears within its immigrant communities.

San Diego’s shaky sanctuary status

A month before Trump took office, the San Diego Board of Supervisors voted 3-2 to uphold the region's “super sanctuary” status. This means, policies are currently in place that limit county agencies from using their resources to assist federal immigration authorities, particularly Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

The board's vote was shortly followed by a scathing letter from one of Trump’s lead advisors, Stephen Miller, warning former San Diego County Chairwoman Nora Vargas, and other elected San Diego officials that they are at risk of “criminal and civil liability” if they do not cooperate with federal immigration law.

Chairwoman Vargas had resigned when this letter was sent out, citing “personal safety” reasons. A special election has since been held to replace her seat. Currently, Republican Mayor of Chula

The significance of this election is that the board is currently deadlocked in a 2-2 split between Democratic and Republican board members. Whoever is elected to fill Vargas’ seat will tip the partisan balance of power and will likely alter how the county conducts its immigration affairs.

Meanwhile, during the most recent board meeting on April 8, officials failed to pass a recommendation proposed by Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer to beef up the county's Immigrant Legal Defense Program, which provides free legal representation to detained immigrants facing deportation. The item comes in response to the Department of Homeland Security’s expansion of their “expedited removal protocol,” which county leaders say strips immigrants of their right to a hearing and due process before a judge— enshrined by the 4th and 5th amendments.

“These operations bypass due process and swiftly remove people from their homes and communities without even a hearing–violating basic constitutional rights,” Lawson-Remer’s board letter states.

With Republican Supervisor Jim Desmond absent and the other Republican Supervisor, Joel Anderson, voting no, the motion failed to pass.

Michelle also spoke about the discomfort women often feel when asserting themselves.

“When I say ‘no,’ for the most part, people are

During Trump’s first full month in office, CBP recorded approximately 11,000 deportations in Feb. 2025, down from 12,000 deportations that occurred in Feb. 2024 under Biden’s administration.

But while overall deportations dipped slightly, worksite raids have continued, reminiscent of Trump’s first administrative term. On March 27, ICE agents raided San Diego Powder & Protective Coatings in El Cajon, arresting 15 employees and charging the company’s general manager with conspiracy to harbor undocumented workers.

Workers described being handcuffed and forced to stand in the sun for hours without water as agents verified their immigration status. Four individuals were ultimately charged.

Blanca Corona, whose husband was detained in the raid, told KPBS her family—including four U.S. citizen children, faces financial ruin without his income.

On April 1st, Several residents and immigration advocates in El Cajon marched to City Hall in protest, filing a public records request to demand answers from city officials about their cooperation with federal immigration officials.

like, ‘I get it,’ and I’m OK,” she said. “That’s the thing that we, as women, I think we struggle with — disappointing people.”

Despite the rumor mill, the Obamas have continued to share affectionate public messages.

On Valentine’s Day, Barack posted a photo with Michelle, writing, “Thirty-two years together, and you still take my breath away.”

Michelle echoed the sentiment in her post: “If there’s one person I can always count on, it’s you, @BarackObama. You’re my rock. Always have been. Always will be.”

The couple met in 1988 at a Chicago law firm. Michelle, a 25-year-old Harvard Law graduate,

“I realized that rejoining College Corps would supplement my studies and give me real-world experience in my field,” said TJ “It wasn’t just about making friends anymore—it was about building a foundation for my career.”

TJ credits his great-grandmother’s influence for fostering his deep connection to nature. Growing up in San Fernando Valley, she was a former Pathfinder Scout who instilled in him and his brother a love for the outdoors.

While he once considered botany or forestry, TJ found that CSU Chico’s Parks, Recreation, and Hospitality Management program was the perfect fit. “Three years in, and I haven’t doubted this major at all!” he said.

One of the most rewarding aspects of College Corps for TJ has been the opportunity to network with professionals in state parks, Bureau of Land Management sites, and conservation initiatives. Through these connections, he has explored potential career paths while developing crucial leadership skills.

The program has also helped him strengthen essential skills like adaptability and problem-solving. As someone who is neurodivergent, TJ appreciates predictability and structure, but his service work has required him to embrace flexibility.

“For example, transportation has been a challenge since I rely on public transit and carpools to reach host sites,” he said. “But I’ve learned to be patient and develop creative solutions to overcome obstacles.”

His dedication and work ethic have earned the trust of College Corps directors, leading to leadership opportunities—including serving as a program ambassador.

California’s State Library system — comprising more than 1,100 libraries — relies on IMLS funding for a range of services from broadband access to disaster preparedness and teen programs. Officials warn that without these funds, many positions and programs could be lost. This library lawsuit marks California’s 12th legal challenge against the Trump administration.

In addition, the Department of Homeland Security announced that it would revoke humanitarian parole for hundreds of thousands of immigrants living in the U.S. legally under the Cuban, Haitian, Nicaraguan, and Venezuelan parole program (CHNV). Starting on April 24, all remaining grants under the CHNV program will be deemed invalid.

The Haitian Bridge Alliance has been an outspoken critic of this move, stating in a press release, “This is not policy—it is premeditated cruelty, rooted in white supremacy, anti-Blackness, and xenophobia.”

The CHNV program, initiated in 2023, was designed to allow for a legal pathway for individuals to enter the U.S. It was often applicable to migrants fleeing authoritarian regimes, economic collapse, and political violence

What’s Next?

Immigration news and policies are shifting dramatically and quickly under this administration. With the July 1 supervisor election looming, a McCann victory would likely align the county with Trump’s enforcement agenda, while Aguirre’s win could reinforce sanctuary policies. Either way, the region’s identity as a border community—and the lives of thousands of immigrants—hang in the balance.

was assigned to mentor Barack, then a summer associate finishing law school. They married in 1992 and have two daughters, Malia, 26, and Sasha, 23.

Many on social media, especially in Black communities, were quick to ridicule the divorce rumors, pointing out that the Obamas — whose biggest scandal was wearing a tan suit — are still treated with more suspicion than Donald Trump, a twice-impeached and 34-time convicted felon who routinely is ensconced in scandals.

“This couldn’t be a grown woman just making a set of decisions for herself, right?” Michelle Obama said.

“My directors have recognized my passion and ability to connect with others,” TJ said. “They’ve given me opportunities to help prepare for trips, coordinate with other Fellows, and take on responsibilities that have helped me grow as a leader.”

T.J. has grown from a once-shy student into a confident leader within College Corps. But beyond his personal growth, he recognizes the importance of representation in the outdoor and environmental fields.

As a Black student in a predominantly White field, TJ rarely saw people who looked like him in nature-based organizations like the Boy Scouts or outdoor youth programs. This lack of representation often made him feel like he didn’t belong.

“Being a Black Corps fellow gives me the strength to share my passion with those around me, one job at a time,” TJ said. He hopes to be a role model for other Black students and individuals interested in climate-related careers.

College Corps, in partnership with more than 40 colleges and universities, provides undergraduate students with access to training, networking, and professional development opportunities. Participants benefit from hands-on experience in high-impact service fields, financial assistance—earning up to $10,000 for completing 450 hours of service— and professional growth through developing skills in communication, teamwork, and leadership. Through College Corps, TJ has found purpose, leadership, and a path to a fulfilling career. With his dedication, resilience, and passion for conservation, he is well on his way to making a lasting impact in parks management and environmental advocacy.

ith the thousands of “Hands Off” demonstrations taking place daily throughout American cities and communities, it is disheartening to hear that a large number of African Americans are either refusing to participate or complaining that they have already done enough with the “Black Lives Matter Movement”. Some are even complaining that Whites were not as supportive as many Blacks are now saying they should have been. This is obscure. If one merely reviews the footage of many of the protests following the death of George Floyd, one will see that in some cases, White participation outnumbered Black. But none

of that should be important today. The reality is that we all are and will suffer equally under the Donald Trump dismantling of America. We are all on this Ship called America, and the Ship is under attack and taking on the water of racism and authoritarianism. We can all join in and bail the waters of destruction with our presence, our voices, and our votes, or we can complain as too many are doing while the rest of us seek to save the Ship.

In case you have missed the big picture, here is what the President is doing to this Ship of State called America. He has removed most of the Inspectors General in government agencies under the control of the Executive under Article II of the Constitution; replaced the heads of Homeland Security, the CIA, FBI, Department of Justice, Department of Defense; sought to destroy Social Security, the Department of Education, placed an incompetent as Head of the Department of Health & Human Services leading to the growing measles outbreak in seven states and the deaths of children without offering lifesaving vaccines; cut CDC staffing; withdrawn from the World Health Organization; cut provisions of food and medicine to third world people we have helped keep alive; and worst of all, imposed the arrest and deportation of people speaking out against his policies in spite of the First Amendment guarantee under the Constitution of Freedom of Speech.

Dr. King did not allow the existence of racism to stop the Civil Rights movement, and neither can we. Our motto must become: “No permanent friends, no permanent enemies, just permanent interest”. We must band together to remove from office those members of the House and Senate who have forgotten their Oath of Office and replaced it with silent allegiance to Donald Trump while he violates every Constitutional Principal possible during these First One Hundred Days because he knows a reckoning is coming if we keep up the public protest and the filing of lawsuits against every illegal action he and Elon Musk continue to take. If we must institute recalls against members of the House of Representatives and the Senate because we, America, can not wait for the MidTerm elections, then we should use the power and energy of the Hands Off movement to initiate such action in every district where elected members refuse to carry out their constitutional duties such as taking control of tariffs as required by law; removing Elon Musk and placing the same check on the President’s use and abuse of the Executive Order that Republicans attempted to place on President Obama when they sought to control his ability to carry out the duties of his Office.

Let’s move from singing ‘We Shall Overcome’ to overcoming with our collective actions, in spite of our differences.

TAINTED, TOXIC, AND TROUBLING: RECALLS SPIKE NATIONWIDE

SENIOR NATIONAL CORRESPONDENT

t may feel like every day brings news of another product recall—from baby carrots and cold cuts to LED bear lights and adjustable dumbbells—and you’re not imagining it. The avalanche of food and consumer safety alerts is real, and it’s happening against a backdrop of deep federal cuts and deregulation under the Trump administration. For Black Americans and other vulnerable communities, the consequences of these safety lapses hit harder, from the dinner table to the workplace and beyond.

The latest food recall involves Panaderia Salvadorian Inc., which pulled its Quesadilla de Queso bread off shelves in Rhode Island and Massachusetts due to undeclared milk allergens. The product, sold in 14-ounce clear plastic packages, failed to properly list milk among its ingredients, posing a potentially life-threatening risk to individuals with allergies. No illnesses have been reported, but the Rhode Island Department of Health flagged the mislabeling during a routine inspection. The company cited a packaging breakdown as the cause and claims the issue has been resolved.

Just days earlier, Fresh Creative Foods recalled Trader Joe’s Hot Honey Mustard Dressing sold in 17 states due to undeclared peanuts, soy, sesame, and wheat—another oversight that could prove fatal for allergy sufferers. Meanwhile, Frito-Lay yanked select bags of Tostitos Cantina Traditional Yellow Corn Tortilla Chips after discovering some bags contained nacho cheese chips, again with undeclared milk. Additionally, The FDA said more than 1,700 pounds of Cabot Creamery butter is being recalled because it is “contaminated with elevated levels of coliform,” a bacterium prevalent in animals’ digestive systems and excrement. The recalled butter is distributed in New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Maine, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Arkansas. According to the recall notice, the Cabot butter product is packaged in cardboard shells holding two four-ounce sticks. The possibly tainted batch expires on September 9, 2025. Just as alarming is the recall from Walker’s Wine Juice LLC, which pulled its pumpkin juice due to potential botulism contamination. The New York State Department of Agriculture discovered improper pH levels posed a serious foodborne illness risk during processing. While no illnesses have been reported, the threat of botulism—an often fatal toxin—shows a breakdown in quality control.

And it’s not just food. Recent consumer product recalls underscore mounting dangers:

food safety, especially during crises like the ongoing bird flu outbreak affecting nearly 1,000 U.S. dairy cattle herds. Federal health officials have warned against the dangers of consuming raw milk, which could carry the H5N1 bird flu virus. Still, Trump’s health secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a vocal proponent of raw milk, has slashed oversight capacity at a time when coordination is crucial.

“You chop off the head of the leadership, and now we have to reinvent that wheel,” said one health official. “That’s not in our best interest.”

The ripple effects of weakened federal protections are already being felt by millions, especially in Black communities, which are more likely to suffer from environmental and health disparities. From the closing of community grocers to job losses in federal food safety and healthcare programs, many called the pain personal and pervasive. For consumers, the advice remains constant: Read labels, monitor recall alerts, and return or destroy recalled items. However, as oversight continues to erode, so does public trust in the institutions meant to protect consumers.

“If your product is unsafe, it shouldn’t be on the market. Period,” said Dr. Janet Woodcock, former acting FDA commissioner, during a recent panel on public health accountability. “And when government agencies are gutted, the people paying the price are the ones least able to afford it.”

City Sets June 9 Public Hearing Date on Lower Proposed Trash Fees

On April 14, 2025, the San Diego City Council approved setting a date for a public hearing regarding a proposed trash and recycling collection fee. According to local news reports, the council yesterday approved the proposed June 9 hearing date in a 6-3 vote. The council, reports say, directed the city’s independent budget analyst and city staff to prepare a series of cheaper options to be presented by the June 9 date. The proposal, introduced by the Environmental Services Department after a year of community outreach and a detailed cost-ofservice study, aims to shift the cost of residential waste collection—currently covered by the City’s General Fund—to property owners through a new monthly fee.

San Diego is unique in California for not currently charging single-family homes directly for trash services, unlike apartment dwellers and HOA members who pay private companies. The proposed fees—reduced from

initial estimates shared in February—are: $36.72/month for a 35-gallon bin, $42.88/ month for a 65-gallon bin, and $47.59/month for a 95-gallon bin. Each residence would also receive one blue (recycling) and one green (organic waste) bin, with options to purchase extras.

The fee, if implemented, would be collected via property tax bills starting July 1, 2025, with enhancements such as increased service reliability, free bin replacements, and advanced tracking systems. Additional services, including bulky item pickup and more frequent recycling collection, are proposed for 2027, potentially tied to further fee adjustments.

The City will follow Proposition 218 procedures, including notifying residents by mail and holding a public hearing at least 45 days later. Compared to other California cities, San Diego's proposed fee remains among the lowest, according to an April 14 press release from Mayor Todd Gloria’s Office. For details, visit cleangreensd.org.

“Hands Off Blacksonian,” Says Congressional Black Caucus

Seven members of the Congressional Black Caucus spoke exclusively to Black Press USA after the Caucus was briefed on issues related to protecting the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) and other historic sites under the control of the National Parks Service that feature Black trailblazers.

Their reactions were blunt. “House Democrats are working very closely with the Congressional Black Caucus and civil rights leaders throughout the country to put up a strong wall of defense and protect the Museum of African American History. There are several action items that we will roll out shortly, all in service and making sure that the White House and the extremists cannot whitewash our history,” House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries exclusively told Black Press USA as he walked the stairs back to his office after the CBC’s weekly meeting.

Trump’s March 27 Executive Order entitled “Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History,” specifically targeted the National Museum of African American History. The March 27 directive was followed by an April 4 report that NMAAHC Director Kevin Young was leaving after four years.

“Hands off Donald Trump! If you try to erase it, we will replace it. More importantly, Black people all across the country will rise up like a big black tsunami, unlike anything you’ve ever seen,” Rep. Kwesi Mfume (D-MD) said in an interview with Mfume told Black Press USA.

5 Steps for Better Meal Prep

By planning and preparing meals in advance of each week, you can practice better portion control while creating free time for your family.

1. I nclude the whole family. Even if you only plan to work in advance on lunches, for instance, loved ones will likely enjoy the process more if all are pleased with the meals they enjoy later.

2. P lan the meals. Once the whole gang is included and on-board, start

brainstorming recipes and dishes. Try starting with just one course at first – lunch is likely to be the easiest – to help keep meal-prepping simple at the start.

3. B uy ingredients in bulk. Purchasing ingredients and supplies in bulk – without overbuying perishables like fruits and veggies – can help make sure you have everything you need once it’s time.

4. Head to the kitchen. Pick one day

each week when you can plan to spend ample time in the kitchen. Use cooking techniques that are less hands-on, like baking or slow-cooking, as often as possible so you can multitask throughout.

5. S ort and divide. Using quality food containers to keep your meals as fresh as possible, start splitting up servings in ways that fuel you and family while instituting improved portion control.

visited of all of the Smithsonian museums in the Nation’s Capital. The 10 millionth in-person visitor walked through the door on Sept. 30, 2023. A 7-day waiting list to visit is standard.

“No matter how hard he [Trump] tries to wipe out our history or us it is not going to be successful. I’m very concerned, I have the Pullman National Historic Park in my district,” said Rep. Robin Kelly (D-IL).

“The president better keep his hands off the museum and off of — not African American history — but American history. What makes America great is everything that’s in that library… because it shows what you can overcome and why and how we move forward to become a better nation,” said Rep. Greg Meeks (D-NY). As he stood in a crowded hallway in the House Rayburn Building, his voice rose over the nearby crowd noise. “People need to understand, and the President needs to understand, that all of America is better when they go see those exhibits so that we don’t make the same mistakes. We shall never forget the past… keep your hands off of American history and the African American museum,” Meeks concluded.

Changes to historic narratives or “whitewashing” have appeared on DoJ websites and beyond.

“I think it’s one of the most ridiculous things this administration has done. The effort to rewrite or seriously distort history is an affront to America … It’s hard to imagine, but it is happening,” said Rep. Danny Davis (D-IL). What happens next is likely to represent an epic battle between the truth, who tells it, and who makes the decisions on matters of fact and history.

TS JORDAN FOUNDATION SPREADS

On Saturday, April 12th, 2025, the sun broke through the clouds over El Toyon Park in National City, casting a warm glow on what would become an unforgettable day of unity, remembrance, and hope. The TS Jordan Foundation hosted its 1st Annual Free Easter Egg Hunt, a heartfelt event designed not only to bring joy to local youth and community but also to honor the beautiful life of Tre'Von StewartJordan, who was tragically taken by senseless violence in 2022.

This wasn’t just an Easter egg hunt, it was a love letter to a son, a brother,

a friend, and a community leader in the making, whose legacy now fuels a movement to uplift youth through the power of sports and service.

At the heart of the day’s celebration was something far greater than eggs and candy—it was a mission built on love, legacy, and lifting others. That mission lives on through The TS Jordan Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded in Tre’Von’s memory.

The TS Jordan Foundation's mission is to inspire, support, and encourage youth success. The foundation provides financial assistance to underprivileged youth, helping them fulfill their passion for play-

ing youth sports. Tre’Von StewartJordan firmly believed that teaching life skills through the game of football leads to responsible, disciplined

young adults who learn honest values and leadership skills.

This mission isn’t just a statement, it’s a promise his family keeps with every event, every smile, and every young athlete they help along the way.

The Easter event was full of laughter, music, delicious food, and games—but it was also marked by deep emotion. Taking in the scene, the family of TS Jordan stood out in vibrant shirts printed with an image of Tre’Von in his beloved bunny suit. The sight was a powerful, beautiful tribute from those who knew

OG Sandbox Hosts Annual Event

The Links, Incorporated San Diego Chapter Honors 2025 Achievers at 39th Annual Luncheon Resilience,

April 13, 2025 – In a powerful celebration of excellence, purpose, and brotherhood, The Links, Incorporated San Diego Chapter hosted its 39th Annual An Affair of Honor luncheon Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.

Held under the theme “Resilience, Impact, and Legacy”, the event recognized 16 outstanding male high school seniors for completing a transformative year-long journey through the Chapter’s signature Achievers Program.

Under the guidance and direction of Chapter President Angela Hilliard and Co-Chairs Link Sophia Sharp-Donaldson and Deanna Shelton, the San Diego Chapter delivered a phenomenal event with the support of a strong and dedicated team.

The 2025 honorees included: Ayden Alexander, Tyler Alexander, Rahfeal Alomar Jr., Kaysean Banks, Davon Crenshaw, Taylen Hall,

They were seen sharing with and caring for the families of the community at their annual Easter Egg Hunt featuring the special Golden (money) Eggs.

“We really do care, that’s how we get down because it s all about the kids,” OG Vice President Darnell Meals shared.

Theon Kambon, DeAndre Bradford, Lamar McKenzie Jr., Quincy McKinney, Max Miller, Aaron Morgan, Jeremy Oakley, Dillon Tar, Johnnie Welborne III, and Ryder White.

The Achievers Program, created to prepare young men for higher education and leadership, exposes participants to a range of cultural, educational, and social development activities. From college tours to civic engagement projects, the program is both rigorous and deeply personal.

In front of an audience filled with friends, family members, and community dignitaries, the proud moms and dads of these exceptional young men had the honor of placing medallions around their sons’ necks. The moment was symbolic and emotional, representing not just achievement, but legacy.

Following the medallion ceremony, the young men stood and recited the Achiever Oath, an affirmation of their commitment to excellence, integrity, and service. With that, they were formally welcomed into a distinguished lineage of over 834 Achiever Alumni.

In recognition of their achievements, each young man also received a scholarship to support their continued educational journey.

“The theme of this year, ‘Resilience, Impact, and Legacy’, truly reflects what we see in these young men,” said a representative of The Links, Incorporated. “They have embraced every challenge, grown into leaders, and now join a powerful legacy of excellence that spans nearly four decades.”

The OG SandBox Organization and their volunteers could be seen once again at their favorite stomping grounds at Mountain View Park.

and loved him most. It was joy and grief, all wrapped in the fabric of remembrance.

Throughout the year, Achievers participated in networking events, mentorship sessions, and academic enrichment activities—all designed to prepare them for success in college and beyond.

For many, the program was life-changing.

Her response

The annual chase and hunt for fun and prizes took place last Saturday, April 12th, from 10 am to 1 pm. Families were invited to come hang out with the friendly representatives of the OG Sandbox organization, enjoy some free food, and have some easy conversation, including hugs, high-fives, and some laughs.

“I’ve grown so much this past year,” said one of the Achievers. “Being part of a brotherhood like this, and learning from people who truly care about our future means everything.”

was simple and full of love.

“Due to the sentimental attachment to the larger Easter event once held annually for family and friends being too much emotionally to handle without his presence, the family decided to host an event that made the day about community and provide fun for the less fortunate,” she said, her voice steady but heavy with meaning.

The event was more than a tribute; it was healing. Watching the children and adults laugh as they hunted for colorful eggs and community members of all ages coming together—some smiling, others holding back tears—it became clear that Tre’Von's spirit is still very much alive.

And this is just the beginning. The TS Jordan Foundation has a calendar full of purpose-driven events:

“We are just out here providing some fun and a good time for everybody. No drama, no stress, just a good time,” OG President Aaron Gibson expressed.

The happy youngsters were able to fill their bags and Easter baskets with plenty of candy, toys, cash-filled golden eggs, joy, and other goodies provided by the OG’s.

May 3rd: Annual Raffle Basket Fundraiser June 28th: Fundraiser BBQ Pop-Up

August 9th: The most anticipated event of the year, TRE-DAY—a celebration of Tre’Von’s life and legacy

In a world too often marred by tragedy, the Stewart-Jordan family reminds us of what it means to love deeply, serve selflessly, and never give up on the next generation. Gone but not forgotten TS JORDAN lives on through his family, his community, and now, through every child who dares to dream.

Follow the TS Jordan Foundation on Instagram and Facebook to stay connected, volunteer, or donate. Every bit of support helps turn pain into power, and loss into legacy.

The San Diego Chapter of The Links, Incorporated is part of a national, volunteerbased organization of professional women of African descent committed to enriching, sustaining, and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry. As the 2025 Achievers prepare to embark on new chapters in their lives, they do so with the tools, confidence, and community needed to lead.

As these young men step into the future with resilience, ready to make their impact and build their legacy—who will they inspire next?

Tre’Von’s mother, Myeshia Stewart, was asked why she chose to host this event.
