The 85th Annual convention of the South Dakota Trucking Association has just concluded as I write this. The convention was a resounding success with great attendance by members, guests, and vendors. All who attended grew their game with increased networking and current info, increasing their bottom line. Much praise is due to your SDTA staff, which works tirelessly all year for your benefit, but especially at convention time to provide informative business sessions and speakers, great food, and social interaction. Since joining SDTA in 1981, I have made long-fasting friendships, benefitting not only me personally, but my business' bottom line. Networking among fellow truckers establishes trust and therefore, shared business among all. Attending the convention and board meetings, which are open to all, is invaluable in meeting one another, building relationships within our industry, and encouraging us to propel our industry towards the future. Especially noteworthy is the NextGen arm of our association which is an important resource in mentoring younger truckers to advance and succeed in their dangerous, chosen professions. I am humbled and grateful to be your SDTA Chair for the next two years. I stand on the shoulders of legends in our state association who have stepped up as chairs to establish and propagate the vibrant SDTA that we all currently enjoy. If I can't answer your questions immediately, there is an abundance of resources from which I can find the answers. And through SDTA's contacts in Pierre and Washington DC, I can advance your concerns to our government officials.
