SDTA Road Team Back on The Road Again
SD Road Team Captains Jeff Eschen, K&J Trucking, Inc., Mike Whitehead, FedEx Freight, Inc. and Gary Schmidt, Cliff Viessman Inc., spent the morning May 24, 2021, with nearly 200 driver’s education students from O’Gorman High School, Sioux Falls. First they presented a slideshow to the students, allowing them to understand the blind spots around the trucks and emphasizing safety measures to use when sharing the road with trucks. After the slideshow the students all had the opportunity to sit inside one of the three tractor-trailer setups in the school parking lot. Until they had the opportunity to sit inside the semi and shut the doors they cannot truly grasp the driver’s view, or lack there of. This is the fourth year the South Dakota Road Team has had the opportunity to speak to the students. In 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic the Road Team Captains put together a video presentation the driver’s ed students were able to access from their own home computers.
