There is now a fight going on to preserve Kellogg Beach in Point Loma. A group of Peninsulans are opposing a proposed condo conversion on the “hidden” bayside beach. That has led to creation of a Facebook page listing subterranean parking, a seawall and the possible blocking of public access and bay views as major concerns

n a sun-kissed Sunday morning, hundreds of long and short boards – and even a kayak or two – lined the wall next to the Ocean Beach Pier as surfers of all shapes, sizes and shades of wetsuits zipped up for a paddle around the pilings. SEE PADDLE,Page 13

The Midway District is one of three areas recently designated by Mayor Kevin Faulconer for use as a new temporary “bridge-to-housing” shelter, as part of a new public-private partnership to help homeless get off the street. The proposed Midway

shelter will be administered by Veterans Village of San Diego, a nationally recognized nonprofit that has served veterans since 1981 providing a continuum of care with a full range of comprehensive services. The new homeless center is to be located on SEESHELTER,Page 2

Brat Trot, Sausage Toss and stein-holding contests help keep annual OB Oktoberfest weird and wild The 13th annual Ocean Beach Oktoberfest, a two-day eclectic beachside festival on Oct. 6-7, will showcase numerous titillating contests, activities, and entertainment, as well as plenty of beer, with its pro-

ceeds benefiting local nonprofits. Festivities kick off Friday at noon with the Oktoberstretch yoga festival, beer garden, live music and games, from noon to 11 p.m. The fun resumes Saturday morning with the OB Brat Trot and Drill Ms. Oktoberfest participants (left) compete in the stein-holding contest.
