In Eastbourne we have a sports park with outdoor 3G all-weather pitches and an indoor sports hall with tennis courts. We have eight music studios kitted out with industry standard recording and mixing equipment. We also have workshops and construction areas, fitted with industry standard machinery and tools. In Hastings our multi-million pound campuses are right in the town centre and just metres away from Hastings train and bus station. They are visually stunning and give you access to Learning Resource Centres, 1,000 Macs and PCs, and all the latest industrystandard equipment

In Lewes we have dedicated art studios that allow you to work in your own space and take advantage of our well stocked art supplies.

Our campuses are easy to get to and have great transport links. All our campuses are a short walk from train stations and have regular bus services, so getting to us will never be an issue. Our Hastings and Lewes campuses are right in the middle of the town centres.

Eastbourne is a diverse town, sandwiched between the South Downs and the seaside. It’s a town with a thriving events calendar and brilliant location, which creates the perfect blend of business, education, tourism, and leisure.

Eastbourne is dubbed the Sunshine Coast, a name given because it regularly tops the charts as the UK town with the most sunshine hours in any given year. And given that sunshine equates to Vitamin D – the happy hormone – there is no better place to learn in the UK. And while we can’t guarantee high temperatures and yearround sunshine, Eastbourne has plenty more to offer.

Think of Eastbourne and most people will say it’s like 1950s Brighton, similar in looks to its neighbour with its pier and picture-perfect seafront lined with hotels, but with a less frenetic pace. It’s the reason film director Rowan Joffe chose Eastbourne as the location for his remake of the iconic 1948 film, Brighton Rock, in 2010. For that reason alone, Eastbourne most definitely rocks!

Eastbourne offers a relaxed way of living, with the cities of Brighton and London easily accessible by train and in close proximity.

We understand that the time you spend outside the classroom is also important to you! Student life isn’t just about life in the classroom.

It’s about making new friends, exploring the local area and gaining life skills. 2019 has been somewhat of a revival for the town. The Arndale Centre has been renamed to The Beacon and is the town’s main place to shop. A host of popular high street stores, restaurants, and a new cinema has been added to the offering.

Eastbourne is renowned for its plethora of bars and restaurants. The extensive list includes gastropubs, modern bistros, Victorian tearooms, and good old fashioned country pubs. Here are some of our favourite foody spots:

Fancy a burger? Burger bars seem to be all the rage right now and when they’re as good as the ones we have in Eastbourne, then they’re probably here to stay. Half Man Half Burger, 7Bone Burger Co., Harleywood Diner, and Old Dave’s Gourmet Burger Co. serve up some mouth-watering creations – everything from beef burgers to vegan burgers. Flamenco Tapas This has to be our favourite Spanish themed restaurant in Eastbourne. They serve over 60 dishes, including a great vegetarian range. The ingredients are sourced from Spain and the restaurant has a typical Spanish feel. There are also 20 Spanish wines to accompany your meal.

Fusciardi’s Ice Cream The seaside and ice cream go hand in hand and Fusciardi’s is one of the most popular ice cream parlours in the town. ‘A taste of Italy in Eastbourne’. The delicious dessert was born right out of The Hungry Monk in the Wealdon district of Eastbourne. (There’s a pub quiz question right there!)

Perfect Place for a pint: The Cornfield Garage The town’s most popular branch of JD Wetherspoon. It has a great choice of local brewers and suppliers and regularly holds cider and gin festivals. The Lamb Inn Thought to be one of the oldest pubs in the country! It sits proudly in the Old Town and has done since about 1180. It serves fine Sussex ales and could well be haunted. Join the ale trail: Bibendum, The Dolphin, The Dewdrop, and The Eagle form a fantastic quartet of pubs. Locals refer to them as the south street shuffle. Quite a popular route for a night out, starting at Bibendum and working your way along South Street until you reach the Eagle.

Fancy Something a little fruitier? Eastbourne Cocktail Club ECC has been a very popular hangout since opening in 2015. Its extensive range of craft beers, gins, and over 100 different cocktails, coupled with its vivid artwork and rock 'n' roll memorabilia, make a winning formula.


Eastbourne attracts more than five million visitors each year and here’s why:

Magnificent Motors Eastbourne’s biggest and best motor show happens each year over the first May bank holiday weekend. The motoring spectacular features more than 900 vintage and classic cars, motorbikes, buses, and is a weekend packed with live music and entertainment. Eastbourne Theatres Musical performances, live shows, and standup comedy are also very good in Eastbourne. The Congress Theatre reopened in March 2019 after an extensive refurbishment as part of the £54 million Devonshire Park Project. The London Philharmonic Orchestra performed as the venues premiere concert. Touring comics such as Michael McIntyre and Alan Carr often test out their new material in Eastbourne, and West End shows often roll into town throughout the year.

Nature Valley International Tennis Tournament Each June, some of the world’s best tennis players visit the Sunshine Coast for the Nature Valley International. Some of the biggest names in women’s and men’s tennis have graced the Devonshire Park Lawn Tennis courts including Caroline Wozniacki, Angelique Kerber, Stan Wawrinka, Andy Murray, and Eastbourne’s Johanna Konta.

Beach Life Festival If you’re looking for something a little more extreme then look no further. Beach Life is one of the biggest FREE extreme sports festivals in the UK! Taking place mid-july, the event attracts skaters, BMXers, windsurfers, and SUP enthusiasts to the coast.

Airbourne Perhaps Eastbourne’s biggest and most popular event of the year. In mid-August huge crowds line the seafront to watch the two mile flying display. The four-day event features the very best in military and civilian aviation display teams and regularly includes the RAF Typhoon, Chinook, The Blades, Wingwalkers and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. Beer & Cider by the Sea The end of May bank holiday beer festival well and truly kicks off the summer. It features over 100 real ales, ciders, and perries, and has great entertainment from live bands on the festival stage throughout the weekend.

The historic and picturesque town of Hastings is a mix of Victorian elegance and modern transformation, with vibrant and thriving business, tourism, leisure and education sectors.

In August 2016, Hastings was named as a hotspot for thriving creative industries. It was identified among 47 creative clusters across the UK that showed that Hastings was starting to have a significant impact on the industry.

Hastings is sometimes referred to as Brighton’s little sister, and shares a lot of the same quirky, artistic qualities as its neighbour. But Hastings is beginning to move out of the shadows and make a real name for itself. ... And we much prefer the more recent reference of Shoreditch-on-Sea, because Hastings shares many of the same characteristics that the swanky London suburb is synonymous with. Many of the national news outlets have also been backing Hastings as a very attractive place to live, work, study and play (and of course, we agree!). The Guardian says that the town is undergoing an artistic renaissance and creative talents and businesses are flourishing alongside other likeminded people and the fun spirit of the town. Many high profile creative people are starting to make the move from Brighton and London.

The London Evening Standard called Hastings the “new jewel in the South East Coast” encouraging readers to visit the ancient Old Town ‘twittens’, which are lined with interesting and quirky boutique shops

Hastings’ identity and reputation as a thriving national and international arts centre is gathering momentum.

Trip Advisor can give you an idea of the best places to eat and drink, but nobody really knows Hastings like we do. Here are some of our favourites: The Crown is a very popular pub and highly recommended for its range of craft beers.

Cafe Maroc is a BYOB Moroccan restaurant serving traditional Moroccan feasts.

To the east, you’ll find a glorious stretch of beach, with Europe’s largest beach-launched fishing fleet, the iconic black fishing huts, with views of the East Hill in the background. The Jerwood Gallery has very much made itself at home in this part of town since opening in 2011 and offers a ‘uniquely British experience’.

The Dragon Bar is a swanky London cocktail bar, where its resident DJ plays tracks straight from vinyl on his mini decks.

Ye Olde Pump House is in the heart of the old town and has a stunning interior full of character and is a great place to grab a drink or eat. You’ll find some of the best fish and chips at The Cod Father, The Old Town Fryer and the Kingfisher.

Heading west, you’ll find the famous Hastings Pier. After being burnt down in 2010, the pier re-opened six years later. It acknowledges the history and charm of the old one by using some of the old planks in the restoration. It now offers a clean, modern, spacious area for people to explore. Since re-opening, the pier has been a hive of activity with open-air yoga, cinema screenings, a circus and live music.

The Printworks has two bars and is a great place to try something different from small breweries, vineyards and craft beers. This is a great night out.

The pier was once a popular venue for live music. The Rolling Stones, The Sex Pistols, The Who and Jimi Hendrix all played here in their heyday. It looks as if the pier will once again become a hot spot for live performances after Dizzee Rascal, Madness, the Levellers, and DJ sensations MK and Hannah Wants all played sold out sets.

Porter’s Wine Bar is situated in a Grade 2 listed building and regularly has performances from award-winning jazz singer, Liane Carroll. The Boulevard Bookshop is a bookshop by day and Thai restaurant by night, offering a fine range of home-cooked Thai dishes.

The town has three cinemas, a large shopping centre, Old Town, park, arcades and amusements, a Go-Kart track and the UK’s largest adventure golf complex.

Walkers wine bar and bistro is a great place for lunch, as well as dancing the night away.

Did you know? Hastings is full to the brim with over 80 amazing bars, pubs & restaurants.

Throughout the year, it’s hard not to get carried away with all the parties and festivals going on in the town. The Seafood and Wine Festival, Jack in the Green, Pirates Day, and its very own version of Mardi Gras - Fat Tuesday are some of the best!

WELCOME TO LEWES

The Sussex town of Lewes is steeped in history. It is a picturesque and quintessential English town with the white chalk cliffs of the South Downs as the perfect backdrop.

The River Ouse, which runs directly through the town, and the 1,000-year-old Lewes Castle are two dominating features of Lewes. As you venture into the town centre you are welcomed by narrow alleyways, crooked buildings, and a plethora of shops, cafes, and restaurants. From mainstream brands to independent names, Lewes is a truly artisan town with an old fashioned charm. The Barbican House is home to the Museum of Sussex Archaeology and houses local

collections from the Stone Age to medieval times. Anne of Cleves was a resident of Lewes and her former house gives an insight into how Tudors and Elizabethans lived, worked, and relaxed at home. Political activist, philosopher, and Founding Father of the United States, Thomas Paine, was also a former resident, having lived above the 15th century Bull House, which was a tobacco shop at the time. Harvey’s Brewery moved into the town in 1790 and

History tells us that Lewes has always been independent and liked to do things a little differently. Its wide range

of independent and boutique shops, salons, cafés, bars, and restaurants is the modern day example of that. But that’s what makes Lewes so great! Fashion boutique Twinkle Twinkle offers luxurious modern classics for style lovers not slaves to fast fashion. The Needlemakers, a former needle and candle factory, houses lots of craft shops, perfect for finding unique accessories and homeware. The café also serves delicious cake.

Just as John Harvey did, his descendants use a blend of four local hops, water filtered through the South Downs for over 30 years, and a unique 60-year-old yeast strain, to create Harvey’s beers. On some days the Harvey’s Brewery horse drawn cart still frequents the cobbled roads of the town!

While we’re on the subject of food, Lewes has lots of fantastic places to eat. There are well established restaurants such as Bill’s, which began as a greengrocers in the town, and the newer, vibrant Fuego Lounge, but we also love some of the smaller, lesser known places: Erawan If you’re a fan of Thai then you’ll love Erawan. It’s an intimate Thai diner that serves up authentic, spicy dishes that are great value. It’s just a couple of minutes from campus, it’s Bring Your Own, and the Penang curry is delicious.

Caccia & Tails An amazing pasta and focaccia bar offering homemade pasta, sauces, and breads. The Focaccia is Genovese, a regional style of Focaccia which is best eaten upside down to allow the salt to hit your tongue. The mac’n’cheese fries with Marmite mayo are a must.

We love pizza. Even if we didn’t, I’m sure that the wood-fired pizzas served here would convert us in no time! They offer lots of great toppings and even do gluten free and vegan pizzas.

The Swan Inn If you’re looking for something a little more traditional, then look no further than the Swan’s Sunday roast. Big plates with all the trimmings and a great veggie roast available as well.

Having its own brewery, you’d expect there to be quite a few places you could sample the county’s finest ales – you’re not wrong: The Lewes Arms An architectural gem steeped in character and tradition. Locals say that this is the best pub in Lewes, and we find it hard to disagree. This historic pub, which is over 200-years-old, serves up delicious food, well-kept ales, and great entertainment.

Pelham Arms This is quite a unique pub with its own smokehouse! The Pelham Arms has been curing meats for a number of years and in 2016 built their own smokehouse on-site and now serve a whole range of smoked treats. They also offer delicious burgers with hand-ground meats and housemade sauces.

John Harvey Tavern A rustic pub in the heart of the town that sits opposite Harvey’s Brewery and next to the River Ouse. Wine Wednesdays and Burger Thursdays are our favourite times to visit.

Harvey’s Brewery There aren’t many towns in the south east where you can tour a brewery and taste the unique and distinct flavours of the county’s finest ales. “We wunt be druv” a Sussex dialect phrase that means “we will not be driven” and has been used in the county for hundreds of years and denotes the independence, spirit, and pride of the brewers.


It's not all ale and beer though: Café Du Jardin By day - a lovely French café / bistro serving rustic French food. But on a Friday and Saturday night, the Wine Cellar is one of our favourite places to hang out. Lots of great cocktails, an extensive wine list, and entertainment on most nights. A quirky and cosy setting; and relatively still unknown – until now!

The Depot The Depot is a bit of an all-rounder. Great for food, a fantastic selection of beers, wines, and spirits, a brilliant place to meet with friends, and it’s a cinema!

And if that wasn’t enough, Lewes knows how to throw a good party. There are lots of events happening throughout the year that you can experience: Love Supreme Festival A three-day jazz festival held during the first weekend in July. Set in the stunning surroundings of Glynde Place, the festival has been running since 2013.

Glyndebourne Festival Opera At the opposite end of the celebrations spectrum is the Glyndebourne Festival Opera. Glyndebourne house is a 1,200 seater venue and has held the festival since 1934, attracting people from all over the world.

Lewes Bonfire Bonfire night in Lewes is huge! The celebrations not only mark the foiled gunpowder plot of 1605 but also commemorates the memory of the 17 Protestant martyrs burnt at the stake for their faith.

There are Course Representatives for each course supported by us, which ensure that your voice is heard by BSU and college management. We host events throughout the academic year such as wellbeing events and other activities. There are societies that you can join and get involved with, but if you don’t find one you’re after you can start your own one! An Access to Higher Education course will help you meet the entry requirements you need to study at university. Access to Higher Education courses are designed specifically to prepare learners aged 19 or above for university entry. Your qualifications may fall below the entry requirements or maybe out of date, in which case, these intensive courses will develop your research and study skills, and help you gain the qualifications you need to support your university application. Applying & Interview Process:

Entry requirements should be used as a general guide as we operate a flexible admissions policy. This means that you could receive a lower conditional offer than the typical offer, informed by our assessment of your complementary non-academic achievements and experiences. For courses that require interview or portfolio review, this may also be considered in the level of any conditional offer that follows if your application is successful. Applications must include a personal statement and appropriate references. Closing dates for entry are defined by UCAS. The interview process will commence in January, where you will be required to bring a portfolio of your work (Art subjects). You can track the progress of your application at www.ucas.co.uk.

If you are a mature student and fall below the entry requirements, evidence of prior learning with an appropriate portfolio of work or relevant industry experience will be considered. However, you may be assessed for Accredited Prior Learning (APL) on the basis of either: other relevant academic qualifications (PDC) in addition to successful completion of an HND/FdA/ pertinent professional/work related experience.

It is strongly advised that all Higher Education applicants will have successfully achieved an A*- C grade in both GCSE English and maths (or equivalent qualification).

An equivalent overseas qualification together with an IELTS score of 6.5 and 6.0 in writing is required for international students.

Studying at university is a big financial investment. You will need to cover the cost of your tuition fees, and if you’re living away from home and independently, you will need to cover the cost of living. You can apply for, and take out a student loan to help you cover these costs. You will only start repaying your loan once you have finished your studies and once you have started earning over a certain salary.

My three years have been amazing! During my second year I won the Student Open Category and the overall Best in Show at the international design competition, Pewter Live. To have been recognised at

this level as a student is a real honour. My sculptural vessels demonstrated an evolution of a functional form and were the result of six months design and testing to combine pewter and glass. Persistence


finally paid off and allowed me to develop a technique which has never been achieved before. My third year has been filled with work experience for a Silversmith in Ashford and preparing for my final

project. I’m so excited to have been offered a place at the prestigious Royal College of Art next year, to study a Master’s in Jewellery and Metal I can’t wait to start!

ABOUT THIS COURSE:

Our BA (Hons) Animation Art and Practice will give you a solid understanding of the subject and a range of practical experience for you to start your career. You will focus on animation and learn transferable skills, technical know-how, and a solid understanding of a range of practical animation skills that will be the basis for your career in animation. You will begin by learning the principles of traditional hand drawn animation, stop-motion animation, and CGI, and then progress onto “live” projects for clients.

AREAS OF STUDY: Throughout the course you will explore and learn a range of diverse practical skills and theoretical studies to underpin your animation. You will be taught through a range of study styles including demonstrations, lectures, practical workshops and professional projects that will give you the opportunity to

transfer your animation abilities. All aspects of animation including character and f/x will be touched upon as well as cutout, stop-frame, hand drawn, 2D software, visual effects and CGI 3D animation software. In the second year you will be engaged upon professional projects for real clients as well as working on your own self-initiated projects. You will be building a show-reel and portfolio which will equip you for industry or postgraduate studies. In the final year you will undertake an extended essay and a final project that will be the culmination of your learning and that will be screened at the final show.

ABOUT THIS COURSE: Our BA (Hons) Designer Maker course has a strong emphasis on design practice alongside making and provides you with a skill base to establish yourselves as a practitioner.

ABOUT THIS COURSE: Our Digital Media Production course encourages you to be experimental, develop your own distinct visual voice and style, while building on conceptual and technical skills required for the media production industries.

During this two-year course you will develop a solid understanding of industry standard media production software, for example Adobe and the Autodesk Suite. This includes a deep dive into the Unity Engine where you will learn to develop game worlds and develop assets for those worlds in 3D modelling software and graphic editing software. Learn the key skills needed to become a content creator. Use our camera equipment and green screen to create visual effects and composition. Learn from industry professionals with

optional modules available for TV and Film Production and Games Production. For the music pathway you will cover aspects of the music industry, applied sound principles, creative software technique, advanced sound design, composing using technology, mixing & mastering, musicology and professional development. These will be developed through workshops, practical sessions, creative practical projects, contextual studies and production projects based on recognised industry standards. You will be studying alongside a vibrant mix of students with a whole range of interests and skills. Working independently, supported by tutors, technicians and peers, will enable you to produce some amazingly creative, innovative, and interesting work.

AREAS OF STUDY:

The first year is the fundamental skills year. The year focuses on developing your ability to follow the creative process, hone your journaling/evidence compiling skills to help give you all the capability to progress confidently in the second year. The first year of the course is pass only - it’s your chance to interrogate us on what the course requires from you to get the best results. It’s also the opportunity for you to experiment, for you to discover what you’re good at and what you enjoy. The first year is broken into six modules: three design projects,

a motion graphics project, a development project and an academic essay. The year ends with a conference in Barcelona. Which, every year, the students rave about - and often return to in their third year. The second year is when things heat up, as by this time a lot of students know what they want to do and where they want to work. You will complete three briefs: an external brief from a local employer; a YCN industry brief and a brief set for the third year’s final exhibition. The projects are assessed on how well the students meet the client’s requirements and how well they promote themselves in the industry. You will also work on an animation project and compile an academic essay. The second year is about the industry and professionalism; you should focus on arming yourself with the skills to smash it in the workplace and industry... and get your grade. You will be able to develop your creative expertise in a wide range of topics including enhancing your visual communication and language and being able to design for a wide range of media such as web, social media, and moving image. We will also guide and advise you on how to develop your personal and professional qualities to help you stand out, with an impressive portfolio, when applying for jobs or securing design projects.

EMPLOYMENT & PROGRESSION: Once you have completed the course you may decide to study for one more year and complete a top-up degree to achieve full honours. You may also decide to take your creative skills and passion into the industry and find employment in creative agencies, in-house design teams, or as a freelancer.

This unique course aims to produce informed and skilled practitioners with the knowledge and skills to enter the healthcare arena with confidence. Complementary healthcare encompasses a wide range of practices including reflexology, aromatherapy and therapeutic massage. The practical skills that you develop will be supported by a comprehensive theoretical knowledge of each therapy. The course has been developed to cover many different aspects of healthcare in such a way that practical skills are balanced with a comprehensive training in the underpinning knowledge to the therapy required.

AREAS OF STUDY: This course has a strong practical element to it and gives you the opportunity to practise your skills in a clinical setting using the college salon facilities.

You will focus on three main therapies: body massage, reflexology and aromatherapy at an advanced level. The three therapy treatments that you carry out on clients will form in-depth case studies for your practical and written assessments. There are a variety of assessment methods including case studies, essays and a “seen” exam. In the second year there is a 50hour work placement allowing you to put your knowledge and skills into practice in a healthcare setting. You will also develop a portfolio of reflective practice over the two years of the course. You will develop your theoretical knowledge of healthcare therapies to provide you with a solid understanding of how each treatment works, how the body works, and how to best advise and assist clients suffering with varied conditions.

EMPLOYMENT & PROGRESSION: The course will equip you with a range of experiences, qualifications, and

practical skills that are sought after by employers and required for successful self employment. Complementary healthcare therapists can work in a variety of environments including health centres, hospitals, hospices, and in community services supporting people with additional needs. A Level 3 qualification in the care or education sector, or even a teaching assistant qualification will be advantageous.

You will also need to be working in a school or college setting. Applicants must be over 18 years old and must have a current and valid DBS relating to their work setting.

ABOUT THIS COURSE:

Our brand new Level 4 qualification is perfect for you if you are already employed within a school or college setting, perhaps as a teaching assistant or young person’s mentor. The course provides you with professional development opportunities so that you can move towards a more independent role in the classroom. The course structure will build on your existing knowledge through a range of thought provoking lectures and independent study, giving you the opportunity to reflect on your current role.

AREAS OF STUDY: This Level 4 course will challenge your current

theoretical understanding of the teaching and learning environment and give you a thought provoking insight into daily practice. During the five modules you will consider diverse approaches to pedagogy that influence holistic learning in children and young people. You will explore the factors that could influence mental health and well-being in children and young people and analyse current national strategies for promoting mental health and well-being. You will look at effective inclusion of children and young people and consider the responsibilities of the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) within a school or college environment. You will discover how working in partnership with families can improve the education of children, before carrying out your own research project to identify change in a relevant a topical scenario within the school and college setting.

EMPLOYMENT & PROGRESSION: Once you have successfully completed this qualification you will be equipped as an Advanced Practitioner. As an Advanced Practitioner you will use crucial leadership skills to mentor others across all roles and responsibilities in the school or college workforce. You may choose to continue with your studies and progress onto a Level 5 qualification in Education or Leadership.

CERT TESOL LEVEL 5 QUALIFICATION TO TEACH ENGLISH TO NON-NATIVE SPEAKERS, VALIDATED BY TRINITY

ABOUT THIS COURSE: This Level 5 part-time course will enable you to teach English to non-native speakers, within the context of an English speaking environment (ESOL) and for non-native speakers resident in a non-English speaking environment (EFL). The course typically runs for 22 weeks, with starts in January and September. It is internationally recognised and will allow you to find teaching roles in a number of organisations such as community groups, further education colleges and language schools.

During the course your learning will comprise of practical teaching activities, classroom observations, and academic study. You will develop a good balance of interpersonal and academic skills, which are essential to help you complete the course and start your career in teaching. As well as learning the core skills needed to be a teacher, you will also study a short course in an unknown language so that you can gain an insight into what it is like to learn another language.

You will learn English grammar and phonology and understand the learner profile and teach a student on a 1:1 basis.

EMPLOYMENT & PROGRESSION: Your employment prospects are enhanced once you have successful completed the course, meaning you are qualified to teach students in a number of different countries. Some students find employment in language schools in Hastings, host foreign students at home, teach community classes or work in schools and colleges.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Interview and assessment tasks (including a team activity, presentation and written task). In order to gain this interview, candidates must pass a pre-interview language task.

FURTHER EDUCATION & TRAINING PGCE / CERT ED / PROFGCE IN PARTNERSHIP/VALIDATED WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF BRIGHTON

ABOUT THIS COURSE: Our teaching courses will provide you with a formal teaching qualification that will allow you to start your career as a teacher in the further education sector and in post compulsory education (age 14 plus). The PGCE qualification can be studied on a full-time and parttime basis, while our Cert Ed qualification is studied on a parttime basis.

The practical elements play a big part in your learning during these courses, therefore we recommend that you are able to complete a minimum of 50-100 hours teaching per year. This can be through employment or on a voluntary basis. You will develop the ability to adapt to different learning, assessment, and teaching contexts to support your future students’ needs. You will become adept at collaborating with others and be able to share your own knowledge with confidence and resilience. You will also be able to critically reflect and be motivated to improve your own practice.

By the end of the course you will be prepare for realities of teaching, be able to develop innovative skills, and be creative.

AREAS OF STUDY: During the course you will study six modules, three modules per year for part-time study, reflecting on the generic post-compulsory teaching and learning issues. These issues are current and relevant to the further education and training sector and will be key areas from the new teaching standards. The course meets the Professional Standards for Teachers & Trainers in Education and training. The full-time PGCE pathway will be perfect for you if you are already working as a trainee teacher, but you will need to provide us with acceptable forms of ID so we can help you to apply for a valid DBS. Due to the nature of the course, you need to allow at least another full day for reading and studying. Delivery of the full-time PGCE: During the first 4 weeks you will be required to attend Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from

9am - 5pm for induction and observation of teaching in a variety of areas. You will then be required to attend lectures every Tuesday with a further two days for placement. Delivery of the part-time PGCE and CertED: Lectures will take place every Thursday from 4pm - 8:30pm in both the first and second year.

EMPLOYMENT & PROGRESSION: There are plenty of opportunities for you as a Newly Qualified Teachers once you have completed the course. For example many of our past students are now in employment across the world! They have successfully gained teaching jobs within East Sussex College, in colleges and universities in Kent and London, and two trainees are teaching English in China and Vietnam. Some trainees on our part-time courses were all in employment while studying with us, but since graduating have moved into management positions within their places of work.

To apply for our PGCE course (both part-time and full-time) you will need to have an honours degree.

An Introduction to Teaching, Learning & Assessment in Education & Training

To apply for our CertEd course you will need to have an equivalent of a Level 3 qualification in your subject field, for instance - Level 3 Beauty Therapy qualification to go into teaching Beauty Therapy. You will also need GCSE maths & English language at a minimum of grade 4 / grade C. For non-native speakers an IELTS 7.0 in all elements. You will also have to provide an up to date DBS from your place of work.
