19+ Advanced Learner Loan.

DID YOU KNOW YOU COULD QUALIFY FOR THIS LOAN IF YOU ARE AGE 19 AND OVER?

What is the 19+ Advanced Learner Loan?

An Advanced Learner Loan is a government loan that students may be able to take advantage of to help assist them with the cost of studying an eligible course at a college in England. An Advanced Learner Loan is available to students aged 19 and over who are wanting to study a Level 3, 4, 5 or 6 course.

How do I qualify for this loan?

You must have lived in the UK for more than three years and have a ‘settled status’. Students will not have to pay all the tuition fees upfront. The minimum loan amount is £300 and you apply online.

How does paying back the loan work? You only pay back your loan when you finish your course and earn more than £25,000 a year. If you successfully complete an Access to Higher Education course and go to university and complete your degree, then you will not pay back any balance outstanding on your loan.

Does the loan affect my credit score? This loan won’t affect your credit score, and your credit rating will not be considered.

This privacy notice is issued by the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) on behalf of the Secretary of State for the Department of Education (DfE) to inform learners about the Individualised Learner Record (ILR) and how their personal information is used in the ILR. Your personal information is used by the DfE to exercise our functions under article 6(1)(e) of the UK GDPR and to meet our statutory responsibilities, including under the Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Act 2009. Our lawful basis for using your special category personal data is covered under Substantial Public Interest based in law (Article 9(2)(g)) of GDPR legislation. This processing is under Section 54 of the Further and Higher Education Act (1992).

The ILR collects data about learners and learning undertaken. Publicly funded colleges, training organisations, local authorities, and employers (FE providers) must collect and return the data to the ESFA each year under the terms of a funding agreement, contract or grant agreement. It helps ensure that public money distributed through the ESFA is being spent in line with government targets. It is also used for education, training, employment, and well-being purposes, including research.

We retain your ILR learner data for 20 years for operational purposes (e.g. to fund your learning and to publish official statistics). Your personal data is then retained in our research databases until you are aged 80 years so that it can be used for long-term research purposes. For more information about the ILR and the data collected, please see the ILR specification at https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/individualised-learnerrecord-ilr

ILR data is shared with third parties where it complies with DfE data sharing procedures and where the law allows it. The DfE and the English European Social Fund (ESF) Managing Authority (or agents acting on their behalf) may contact learners to carry out research and evaluation to inform the effectiveness of training.

Access to Higher Education Courses.

Our Access to Higher Education courses are one year long and designed as a stepping stone to a degree-level course (either with us or at university).

Our Access courses have outstanding success rates and are highly respected by universities, both locally and nationally. They enable you to progress to a degree course, something many adults feel they’ve left too late. It’s never too late! If you’re looking to change careers, but you need a degree to reach your dream role, an Access course helps you get back into education and achieve your goals.

Formal qualifications or experience are not required to study an Access course with us, however many university degree courses will require GCSE Maths and English at grade 4 or above, in addition to the Access Diploma. You can gain these qualifications with us at East Sussex College (for free!) prior to enrolling on an Access course.

Pre-Access courses are also available, designed to get you ready for the Access Level 3 course. These courses run in June/July prior to starting your Access course. These are ideal if you are returning to education after a number of years away, or you wish to refresh your skills vital to study at a higher level. Course fees apply. Apply via the college website by searching for ‘Pre Access to HE’.
