We are constantly building new partnerships. Recently, we placed over 15 Health and Social Care students into local hospitals to gain first-hand experience in operating theatres.

Here in Eastbourne, our Catering students gain valuable experience in busy hotel kitchens, helping to feed visitors from all over the UK as the town is one of the nationâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s favourite staycation destinations. Our Hair and Beauty students have the opportunity to hone their skills in our professional salons and then compete in national competitions such as UK Skills and then progress onto WorldSkills. Our Music students gain a real insight into the gig industry as they plan, set up and perform at their own end-of-year concert at Concorde 2 in Brighton. Our Creative Media students jump into the world of media as they work alongside local organisations to host Youth Radio, produce TV programmes and create their own magazine. Public Services students get the opportunity to put their knowledge and abilities to the test as they often secure placements with a wide variety of uniformed services. Opportunities with local police stations, ambulance service, fire stations, and the coastguard, come about, thanks to our tutors fantastic contacts.

Using a plethora of mediums, students are free to create whatever they like using our extensive resources. The only limitation is their imagination.

Eversley is also home to our incredible music facilities. We have eight recording studios with industry-standard mixing desks (the same ones that Ed Sheeran has at home). We also have our own performance space, perfect for working on performances, recording albums and shooting music videos. On the opposite side of the campus, we have our Construction Centre. Our real-life working environments are set up just like the ones you would find in the industry. We have a dedicated Brickwork Centre and dedicated workshops for Carpentry, Plumbing, Painting and Decorating, and Engineering. Our facilities for Motor Vehicle are some of the best in the South East. Our Eastbourne campus is the only place where you can study a Body Repair course and perfect your painting skills in our purpose-built spray booth. Our impressive facilities don’t stop there either. We have an on-site 400-metre athletics track, perfect for our Sports students to utilise for their coaching and fitness modules, as well as helping to arrange local schools’ sports days. Students also gain valuable experience helping to run the on-site Wave Leisure Centre, which includes a huge indoor sports hall - approved by the Lawn Tennis Association for tennis, and a 3G all-weather pitch. You may already know where you want your career to take you - you may still be undecided and that’s fine. INSPI We know that the learning you do outside of the classroom can be just as important as the things you learn in it. Industry trips, workshops and guest speakers are essential elements to our courses. That’s why we work hard to make sure these experiences are valuable and the best they can be. Opportunities to visit businesses and organisations related to your subject will help to expand your imagination and inspire you to reach your career goals.

Mindfulness and wellbeing... We are here to look after you and support you. Your safety and overall wellbeing is our top priority, which is why we have dedicated teams to help you cope with college life and remain motivated throughout your studies.

What is Further Education (FE)?

Choosing the right course

Your young person is about to enter FE and you’ll probably hear this term a lot as they work through their final year of school. FE simply stands for Further Education, as that is exactly what they are doing after school. This is their chance to specialise in the area or industry that most interests them. This can either be through vocational courses such as Diplomas and T-Levels, a more hands-on approach through an apprenticeship or, for more academic students, three A-Level subjects. All of these routes are the next step in helping your young person prepare for work or university.

There are many qualifications to choose from at East Sussex College. Your young person may already know what they’d like to study, but don’t worry if they’re still undecided. There is plenty of help at hand so students can make the right choice. You can book a meeting over the phone, video call, or drop in to see us. Our highly qualified team can talk through all the options - looking at things like predicted grades, personal interests and future goals. English and Maths If your young person didn’t manage to achieve a Grade 4 in GCSE maths or English then they will be able to re-take them at college. Depending on their grade and the outcome of a short assessment, we’ll be able to enrol students onto the right level of course so they can work towards gaining either a Functional Skills or GCSE qualification. Additional Learning Support If your young person requires any additional support then our Additional Learning Support (ALS) team can help. They’re an incredibly important part of our college and can help with things such as learning difficulties and disabilities, in-class support, and assistive technology. Financial Support Students joining us from school, aged between 16 and 18, won’t have to pay any course or exam fees. There may be some additional costs for courses such as uniform, materials and equipment or trips, but students may be eligible for a grant or bursary. Travel Getting to us is really easy. Our Eastbourne campus is on Cross Levels Way and has regular buses coming from Eastbourne town centre. It is also a short walk from Hampden Park train station. If you travel by train then you can purchase the 16-17 save card for £30 per year. This card saves you 50% on all travel. We put on coaches to the UCAS fairs in London and Brighton so you can chat to and find out more about university courses up and down the country. Our subject areas also organise course related trips throughout the year. Our students often visit the capital to experience the Law courts, parliament, banks, marketing agencies, and tourist attractions.

We have a close-knit sixth form that has fantastic progression rates giving our students the opportunity to move onto the things they want to do next - including their first-choice university, an apprenticeship, or go off into the world of work.

Our students always tell us how friendly and welcoming our sixth form is. It is a place where they’re able to make new life-long friends and they are able to mature and gain independence. The feel of the large, modern building, the interaction with the tutors, and the in-depth subject knowledge is the perfect stepping stone to university.

It’s not all work, work, work! As we mentioned earlier, there are plenty of activities for you to get involved with outside of the classroom. Whether it is joining one of our sports academies, becoming a student rep or starting your own club.

Tutorial System A sixth form education requires determination and hard work, and we realise that support outside of the classroom is essential to enable you to succeed. When you enrol with us you will be assigned a tutor. They will be aligned with the subject you have chosen and be able to give you expert support and guidance with those subjects.

We can provide academic support in the form of study and revision workshops. These take place throughout the year and more regularly as we approach exams season.

If your goal is to head to university after A-Levels then we’ll be able to support you with your UCAS application. We regularly run UCAS surgeries to help you with each step of the process, from setting up your account, to writing and refining your personal statement.

We can help Don’t know what you want to study? Backwards planning Some of the best advice we’ve ever heard is to plan backwards. Work out a rough plan of what job you’d like to have in ten years. From there you can look into the details of whether you’d need a degree to do this, and the subjects you need to study at A-Level to get you onto that degree.

Play to your strengths There is nothing wrong with studying the subjects that you’re good at. If you’re predicted 8s and 9s in English, then perhaps consider taking A-Level English Language & Literature.

Don’t get bored The linear structure means that you’ll study A-Levels for two years, so it’s sensible to choose three subjects that you’re going to enjoy and maintain your interest in right up until the end.

Do your uni research As well as researching the courses you want to study at uni, find out about the entry requirements you’ll need to get in. You’ll also be able to find out what facilities they have, what the student lifestyle is like, and whether you’d like to study there.

Job coaches and work mentors ensure that the interns receive the right balance of support and challenge in order to prepare for work.

Interviews

If you can’t decide on a course, don’t panic. You can apply for more than one course on your application form. You will have the chance to discuss your options with us at interview. We also offer bookable careers guidance appointments for you to explore your options. The most important thing is you eventually enrol on the course that’s right for you - we are here to help you.

If we have all the information we need on your application form, we will invite you to an interview. The sooner you submit your application, the sooner you’ll receive an interview. You will receive a letter/email telling you what you will need to bring with you on your allocated day and time. As a general rule, interviews are held weekly. The interview is a good opportunity to find out more about your chosen subject(s) and will give you more information and make sure you are considering the right course for your future. Your parents/carers are welcome to come with you.

Course cancellations In the unlikely event that your course is cancelled, we will do our best to find you an alternative course to help you succeed in your career ambitions. Where possible, any payments towards the cost of your course can be transferred to your new course. Any refunds will be credited by bank transfer (BACS) to your bank account.

Offers At the end of your interview, you will be given written confirmation of your offer and exam grades (or other requirements) you need to secure your place. Once your place is confirmed, you will continue to receive information about starting college and your journey to an exciting future will begin. After your exam results in August, you will be invited to attend enrolment in late August or early September – this is when you officially become an East Sussex College student!
