poems pared down to their essential essence. The results appear to prove that some of the best poems, like some of the best gifts, arrive in small packages, such as The Lucky Ones by Christa Lubatkin: “Sun sears/the huddled cargo/Wind commands/the rubber boat/The ocean shakes/its human burden/slams into the alien shore/where heads/are not chopped/from shoulders.” What a stunning synthesis of a global happening that is impacting all of us. Pima County GOP Chair Bill Beard will be our main speaker this month. He’ll show the most important races of this county and state. Come out and bring your support to all the candidates. Also, our precinct could use your volunteer spirit by becoming a Precinct Committeeperson. There is not a lot of work to do in the position. You won’t be asked to perform tasks outside of SCOV.
