Since 1896, South Carolina State University has maintained a legacy of excellence in education. We have been home to generations of scholars and leaders in business, military service, government, athletics, education, medicine, science, engineering, technology and more. Located in Orangeburg, S.C., SC State was founded as a land grant college with a mission of providing education and service to the citizens of the state. In its first century, SC State was a leader in education and continues to lead the way into the next century.
Since 1991, the South Carolina State University Foundation Gala has raised more than $4.5 million to fund need-based and merit-based scholarships for deserving students, many of whom are first generation college students.
As higher education becomes more competitive the Foundation continues its good work to make a quality education accessible to students from all cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
The South Carolina State University Foundation scholarship allows students access to experiential learning environments such as career shadowing, innovative classroom technology, global exchange programs, and hands-on practicums that prepare them to compete in an ever evolving world economy.
SC State University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). In addition, several of its programs are accredited by 14 national accrediting agencies.
SC State University was founded in 1896 as the state’s only publicly supported HBCU.

SC State University’s School of Business is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, a distinction held by only 5% of business schools worldwide.
SC State University offers signature programs in civil, industrial, electrical, and mechanical engineering, and has the only undergraduate program in nuclear engineering in South Carolina.
