Walk down the steps to your right or down the ramp to Seal Court.

SEALCOURT

Seal Court is an outdoor space in the heart of campus. You can hang out, study, enjoy a meal from Malott Dining Hall, or grab a drink from our student-run Motley Coffeehouse. On Wednesdays, our community comes together for Afternoon Tea, one of many Scripps traditions! Our mailroom, student-run Scripps store, Laspa Center for Leadership, and Career Planning and Resources (CP&R) office are all located in Seal Court.

Walk through the brown brick archway and continue along the path into Vita Nova Courtyard. You’ll see outdoor seating and administrative offices on the right.

When you get to the end of that path in the courtyard, turn right to walk past room 100 and veer right to walk through the set of low white pillars.

Cross a small street and continue on the path heading east between the white house on the left and closest to the building on the right.

To your right is our new science center, The Nucleus, shared between Scripps and Pitzer Colleges. It is an expansion of the science facilities, equipping students and faculty with additional classrooms, laboratories, study spaces, and more. Past The Nucleus to your right, you'll see Claremont McKenna College in close proximity. As you reach the end of the path, you’ll see the W.M. Keck Science Center.

THENUCLEUS

The Nucleus is a shared science department between Scripps and Pitzer Colleges.

All students have access to interdisciplinary science classes, modern laboratories, a 3+2 engineering program, and prehealth advising.

There are also several pre-health student clubs and organizations, and students can pursue research opportunities with professors.

Turn left heading north on the small road. You’ll see a building in the distance with outdoor green doors.

Feel free to peek through the green doors to see the pool, and continue north on the path.

On your right, you’ll see a building with white columns, which is Sallie Tiernan Field House.

EDWARDS HUMANITIES BUILDING

Many of our academic classes are held in the Edwards Humanities Building. Average class size at Scripps is 16 students, and many classes are seminar style and discussionbased, enhancing engagement with peers and professors.

Scripps students also have access to over 2,000 courses offered across The Claremont Colleges.

Head west along the red brick path or head back up the ramp. At the end of the red brick path, turn right and walk north towards the rounded steps in the distance. Make your way up those steps and continue along the path with the orange trees. As you walk up that path, you’ll see more residence halls in front of you.

SCRIPPS RESIDENCEHALLS

There are 11 residence halls on campus, each with their own unique character and style. Residence halls are not divided by class year.

Most students live in Scrippssponsored housing all four years and various student and staff positions support social connection and community engagement. All residence halls include common areas, study spaces, courtyards, and kitchens.

In the distance, you’ll see another residence hall with a beautiful stained-glass window.

As you get closer to the window at the end of the walkway, turn left where you’ll see the wooden arbor, Scripps’ Rose Garden and Graffiti Wall in the distance. Feel free to walk up to Graffiti Wall to see the different murals.

GRAFFITIWALL

The Graffiti Wall is a visual time capsule of Scripps’ history and reflects the changing interests and attitudes of students – signing it has been a Scripps tradition since 1931.

Every year, the seniors create a design that represents their time at Scripps and the world in which they graduated. Once the design is painted onto the wall by an artist from the class, each senior signs their name around the design; it is a powerful representation of what collective success looks like at Scripps.

u a ou d a d ad ba south on the walkway. As you approach the glass window on the left, turn right onto the sidewalk, heading west.

Head all the way down until you see the stone pathway and then turn left down the stairs or use the adjacent ramp. Walk south and on your right, you’ll see Ella Strong Denison Library, a white building with brown wooden doors.

ELLASTRONG DENISONLIBRARY

Scripps is the only college in The Claremont Colleges that has its own library. Ella Strong Denison Library is home to many special collections, artworks, and items of historical significance, including the Women’s Suffrage and Equal Rights Collection; it even has a Rare Book Room! The main doors to Denison Library open twice annually: once in the fall during the Matriculation Ceremony for new students and again in the spring during Commencement when seniors graduate.

Continue along that path heading south. To your right is Balch Hall.

BALCHHALL

Balch Hall is one of buildings on campus that houses various administrative and departmental offices like the Registrar, Dean of Students, Study Abroad and Global Education (SAGE), as well as classrooms and faculty offices.

Head down the steps at the end of the path or use the lift to conclude the self-guided tour.

After the tour:

As you head back to the parking lot, you’ll see some other buildings in the distance.

The large white building with the grassy quad is HonnoldMudd Library, the shared library of The Claremont Colleges.

Directly across from HonnoldMudd Library is Garrison Theater, noted for its large mosaic mural. Garrison is part of the Scripps Performing Arts Center, which includes a recital hall, music classrooms, faculty offices, a music library, and 24-hour practice rooms. Scripps hosts notable guest speakers at Garrison Theater through our signature event series, Scripps Presents, and the annual spring dance concert, Scripps Dances.

If you have time, feel free to walk north on Columbia Ave, towards E 11th St.

You'll see Honnold Gate to your right with a quote from our founder, Ellen Browning Scripps.
