academic, spiritual, moral, artistic, physical, and intellectual growth.

St. Clement’s Parish School is committed to providing a rigorous education to students from the age of three through eighth grade. We embrace academic structure while incorporating enrichment programs, innovative teaching, and experiential learning resulting in a “whole child” approach to education.

St. Clement’s Parish School builds minds and develops character – we believe that building strength of character is as important as gaining knowledge and skills.

THE INTERIM HEAD OF SCHOOL Dear Friends,

I

am proud to report that through your generous gifts and donations, St. Clement’s Parish School has continued to provide an exceptional educational experience not only to your child but for generations to come. Thank you for believing in the mission of our School and for entrusting our team of dedicated educators and leaders with guiding St. Clement’s in the upward direction that it travels.

Our commitment to education goes beyond academics alone. We believe that a holistic approach to education is essential, which is why we continue to foster our students’ spiritual, moral, artistic, and physical development. Our students have participated in a wide variety of extracurricular activities, from sports teams and music ensembles to community service projects and Outdoor Education adventures. These experiences have helped our students become well-rounded individuals who are prepared to succeed in all aspects of life.

S

t. Clement’s Parish School has always been a mission of the Church of St. Clement. We have numerous missions, that is, outreach ministries to our community that have special importance. In the case of SCPS, the importance is the opportunity to lovingly share the Christian faith with the families and children that become part of our School community, and to raise up future leaders that God can use for His purposes in the world. This is why our education mission is rooted in God’s revelation to us in Jesus Christ. Many educational institutions that were originally founded

by Christians have drifted away from their original mission. Like a person attempting to cross a river with a strong current, societal pressures can push a school off its original course. That is why our Board, Administration and Faculty are committed to keeping our School Mission and Philosophy before our eyes. Together, like a flashlight and a map, they guide our journey. Then we can be sure that, by God’s grace, guidance and protection, we may all arrive at our desired destination, ready for the challenges and blessings God has prepared for us in this life, and in the world to come, eternal life.

he St. Clement’s School Board of Trustees offers integral leadership to the St. Clement’s Community. The Board sets policies, goals, philosophies, standards and objectives of the school and ensures that the mission of the school is served. Furthermore, the Board of Trustees ensures that the fiduciary obligations of the institution are maintained through the establishment of appropriate policies.

We have the most wonderful Community at St. Clement’s Parish School that would not be what it is without the love, support, and passion that all of you have for this School, its faculty and staff, and most of all, the children that walk these halls every day.

Thank you to Emily Jo Cancellare, Terry Dillon, and Priscilla Pelking for all they have done this year. They have each led the administration and staff with steadfastness, passion, and care.

Her enthusiasm and commitment for the five-year-old to six-year-old child, her understanding that five-year-olds learn best when it is both structured and exploratory (structured through a clear and predictable schedule, exploratory through carefully designed learning centers where students can initiate their own active discoveries).

Mrs. Lynette Montes This is done through a wide range of developmentally 2023 Early Childhood Division Teacher Award appropriate teaching strategies, creative lessons, and challenging academic content. Mrs. Montes will use very interesting materials to capture students’ interests. For example, Cheeto dust, pipe cleaner butterflies, and paper cupcake holder flowers are an excellent way to show how pollen is spread.

Mrs. Montes is an unwavering advocate for improving the lives of children whether related to children’s social emotional development or cognitive development. She knows her students often only see one way to do things, rarely see things from another’s point of view, and are not ready for the abstract concept of “fairness” so there is lot of explaining and listening, a lot of modeling, a lot of positive reinforcement, a lot of encouragement, and many hugs (sometimes in the hallway)! As the school year progresses and five-year-old students turn six and have the capacity to begin to understand other points of view you will see a shift in Mrs. Montes’ expectations and her responses. Because her students’ development has also shifted.

Mrs. Montes was instrumental in the implementation of the school’s new early childhood admissions process, spending four Saturdays this spring in parallel play sessions with EC admissions candidates.

At the end of the day Mrs. Montes, with a pure heart, sees the potential in all her students and sees their genuine goodness. Thank you, Mrs. Montes!

LOWER SCHOOOL DIVISION TEACHER AWARD

M

rs. Isela Boyle received the 2023 Lower School Division Teacher Award. New beginnings and change. How we manage that says volumes about who we are. In teaching it is always easier to move up in years with students. It is much more difficult to move down in years. It takes a certain type of person to do it successfully. It takes more work and time than we can possibly plan for. It takes more determination and stamina. You must dig in and you have to truly be committed to your students every day. Because every day you are learning just as much as they are. Mrs. Boyle’s first continued 

TEACHERS OF THE YEAR | 2022-23, cont. year as a second grade teacher was outstanding!

A seven-year-old enters second grade with thoughtful intensity. Inwardly they are consolidating the enormous cognitive and emotional growth they just experienced in first grade. Mrs. Boyle met her student’s cautious nature with structure, security, and predictability. Mrs. Boyle began, before school started, thoughtfully setting up her classroom with corners for reading and working. The time and consideration Mrs. Boyle expended on her physical environment before school started transferred to her students once they entered the classroom.

If you have an opportunity to visit Mrs. Boyle’s class, you will find that she laughs easily with her students as they move through their school day. Her humor and objectivity balances out the perfectionist’s nature of the second-grade student and guides them to combine their imagination with a “just right” precision.

Mrs. Boyle has a strong sense of the traditions of St. Clement’s School second grade. She met the challenges of the signature second-grade activities and added, with her teaching partner, a panache that her students embraced.

s. Michelle Villalobos (AKA Ms. V) received the 2023 Middle School Division Teacher Award.

Ms. V has made a significant impact on the lives of her students, colleagues, and St. Clement’s community. She is a true champion of education, a teacher who goes above and beyond the call to inspire and empower her students.

Ms. V devotes time and energy into creating a positive learning environment for her students. She is passionate about teaching and loved by her students, as evidenced by the enthusiastic shouts of her name at after-school carpool!

Her impact extends far beyond her classroom walls as the Student Council Sponsor, 8th grade Outdoor Education chaperone, and all around cheerleader for her students.
