Refugees, Migration, the Sustainable Development Goals, and YOUth During November each year, the National Youth Council of Ireland runs One World Week. It is a development education initiative of youth-led awareness raising, education and action that takes place throughout Ireland during November every year. Young people and those who work with young people learn about local, national and global justice issues and take action to bring about positive change. One World Week gives Rover Scouts an opportunity to: Explore the links between our own lives and those of others we may not even know, so that we can work together for justice and peace Recognise our responsibility to care for the earth and share its resources fairly, especially as Scouts Challenge whatever keeps barriers intact or challenge what strengthens these barriers Bring issues of justice, rights, and equality to the centre of personal, family, scouting, work/college, and community life Work in solidarity with other Scouts and others in Ireland, Europe, and globally Use these activities to organise a service project, eg for a Rover Scout Chief Scout Award or for the Messengers of Peace Award. Attached is last year’s resource on the theme of Refugees, Migration, the Sustainable Development Goals, and YOUth. It remains a highly relevant issue, which Rover Scouts can explore and take action on. It is also relevant for the Time To Be Welcome Project in which several Irish Rover Scouts are involved (facebook.com/timetobewelcome). This EU-funded project encourages young volunteers and youth organisations in Europe to support the welcoming of migrants, asylum seekers and refugees
