FROM THE

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Thank you for attending tonight’s performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. The actors, technicians, directors, and musicians have been hard at work making this show come to life, and are pleased that you are able to attend this production at FMCT. As a non-profit arts organization, please know that you are keeping the dream alive through your attendance. FMCT is much more than a stage for productions. Our mission is also to bring you arts education. A few weeks ago, we were thrilled to launch the FMCT Training Ground, an all-encompassing education program that offers opportunities for children through seniors. Training Ground has a class for everyone: children can learn how to turn a fairytale into a theatre production; adults and seniors can discover how meditation aids the creative process; newcomers and acolytes of Shakespeare alike can explore the love and chaos of his work; and people of all ages can build or renew the basic theatrical skills of singing, dancing, and acting. Please go to FMCT. org and click on the Education link to find the class that best fits you or your child. FMCT is also excited about the shows coming to The Stage in the upcoming season. Not only does FMCT have a great line up of productions, but Music Theatre Fargo Moorhead (MTFM), Tin Roof Theatre, Bare Stage and Act Up Theatre do as well. The announcement of all of these shows will be made on Saturday April 5th following the production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Tickets for the new season will go on sale starting July 1, 2014. For a great discount please consider buying a Stage Door Pass, which allows you to attend every production in the upcoming season. Enjoy the show and thank you for attending.

We all dream a lot / some are lucky, some are not / But if you think it, want it, dream it / then it’s real / You are what you feel ~ Tim Rice, “Any Dream Will Do”

FROM THE

ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Any Dream Will Do Joseph is one of those musicals ‘everyone’ has seen. Most high schools in our area have performed this work, some multiple times. So why did FMCT decide to put this show on the schedule when so many people have seen it? We realized, while many youth have had the opportunity to sing these songs, and play these iconic roles, the vast majority of our adult artists in our community have not been offered the same opportunity. At FMCT, we continually strive to find ways to deepen the roots of the artists in our community by offering them the chances to explore roles and shows they have always dreamed to be a part of. For many being a Narrator, or Pharaoh or Joseph is a check on their bucket list. While the show’s music and text will remain the same during today’s performance, there is great power in hearing these notes come to life as they were originally intended. Adults bring a quality to this music like no youth cast can. They bring wisdom, authenticity, and maturity. So today we thank you for allowing us to bring this story to the stage and just maybe you will be inspired to check something off your bucket list and live your dreams. Yours in The Arts,

Scott M Brusven

DIRECTORS’

NOTES

We are so excited to be directing at FMCT. This is our first experience at this theater and has been a wonderful whirlwind of excitement. Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is one of the finest examples of musical theater storytelling. Andrew Lloyd Weber and Tim Rice brilliantly bring Joseph and his coat alive through various genres of music and charismatic characters and lyrics. Every year, hundreds of Joseph productions pop up in theaters large and small. We believe that one of the reasons this show is so loved is that people can connect to the story. Although it is told in a larger than life way, the story of Joseph has a timeless truth to it. His life story is an inspiration. He is forsaken by his brothers, sold in to slavery for years, and thrown in prison, yet he still finds a way to persevere. That is a tale of hope that anyone can hold on to. The power of the Joseph story is also in its display of true forgiveness. In a world that can so often be filled with hate, learning to forgive, in the way Joseph forgave his brothers, is one of the most important and most difficult lessons we can learn. Joseph is a huge production and we would like to thank every person involved who made this show what it has become. Directing at FMCT has truly been a community experience and we cherish the relationships that have been made through the creation of this piece of art. Please sit back, enjoy this timeless story and thank you for spending “an hour or two” with us dreamers. Darcy and Lauren Brandenburg

2012 Tony Award winner for best play. This wickedly funny and fiercely provocative play about race, real estate, and the volatile values of each is inspired by Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun. Act One takes place in 1959 as nervous community leaders anxiously try to stop the sale of a home to a black family. Act Two is set in the same house fifty years later, as the now predominantly African-American neighborhood battles to hold its ground in the face of gentrification.
