A conversation with the Head of College Mr John Weeks

Just have a go! One of the great strengths of our College is the extensive co-curricular programs which are available to all our students. When we think about co-curricular it includes the sports program with summer and winter options, the performing arts programs with music groups, musicals and drama performances, public speaking and debating, the agricultural program with experiences such as the Cattle Team, the equestrian program and increasingly the opportunities to serve in the social justice program. All of these programs and experiences have their foundations in the core academic program of the College, such as English, Music, Drama, PDHPE, Agriculture, Science, TAS and Visual Arts (etc). It is in the co-curricular experience where these formal skills are brought to life, where we often see the relevance of what we learn in class and experience the satisfaction and fun of putting all those pieces together. It has been wonderful to see so many of our children, across the age groups K-12, re-engaging with enthusiasm and passion in so many of these co-curricular activities to their great benefit. We have reported in earlier editions of The Roar on such activities as Matilda – the Musical, 2022 Cattle and Sheep teams, the Equestrian competition, Sports activities, and others. Tomorrow night brings hundreds of students together in an outstanding 2022 Music Showcase at BMEC! Another wonderful opportunity for students to show their skills and talents. I encourage all students to get involved in co-curricular activities which interest them. There are many, with new options being developed for the future. As I said at assembly last week, our unofficial motto is: “Just have a go!”
