PROGRAM NOTE
While I was writing this piece and tried to construct the musical material, I found out that the musical material fitted in with the melody of the poem ”Es ist ein Ros entsprungen”. The creator of the melody is unknown, but it is harmonized by the German composer Michael Praetorius in 1609. The material also fitted with the natural harmonics of the violin. Especially the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th. These ideas are the musical material used in this concerto.
While I was working on the 1st movement, my good friend, the painter, composer and choir conductor Frits Johannesen passed away, and therefore I have dedicated this piece to his memory.
