Milton Babbitt

Milton Babbitt (1916-2011), born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania studied composition at New York and Princeton with Roger Sessions. His teaching career at Princeton began in 1943 where he taught composition and mathematics. He has been associated with many academic establishments such as Juilliard School, Tanglewood, and Darmstadt. He was a founding member of the Electronic Music Centre of Columbia-Princeton Universities and holds several honors such as a Guggenheim grant. His work in the field of electronic music and his exploration of integral serialism has influenced the musical thinking of many young American composers.

Milton Babbitt (1916-2011), geboren in Philadelphia, studierte Komposition in New York und in Princeton bei Roger Sessions. Seine Lehrtätigkeit in Princeton begann 1943, wo er Komposition und Mathematik unterrichtete. Er stand vielen akademischen Institutionen nahe, wie der Juilliard School, Tanglewood und Darmstadt. Er war Gründungsmitglied des Electronic Music Centre der Columbia und Princeton Universitäten und erhielt mehrere Auszeichnungen, u.a. auch das GuggenheimStipendium.
