BIOCAST - CIMSA UGM

15th October 2022

Bioethics is an interdisciplinary science that is important for people to learn to help them in the decision-making process, both professionally and personally. Most of the public and health students do not fully understand the terminology of bioethics. According to Manoharan, et al. (2021), 89.3% of the 224 medical student respondents had poor understanding and knowledge of bioethics. Therefore, SCOPE (Standing Committee on Professional Exchange) and SCORE (Standing Committee on Research Exchange) CIMSA UGM decided to celebrate World Bioethics Day while expanding public understanding, especially medical students regarding bioethics. Therefore, as a form of celebration, a podcast is held that discusses the basics of bioethics and everyday issues faced in the clinical environment. World Bioethics Day is celebrated every 19 October to raise public awareness about the importance of applying bioethics in everyday situations. Therefore, SCOPE and SCORE (Standing Committee on Research Exchange) CIMSA UGM decided to celebrate World Bioethics Day while expanding public understanding, especially medical students regarding bioethics. With that, BIOCAST: A Talk on Bioethics is held which discusses the basics of bioethics as well as everyday issues faced in the clinical environment. BIOCAST consists of two series of events: Movie Night and Podcast. Movie Night was held on October 14, 2022 in Zoom Meetings with the presence of dr. PREBIOTHICS 3.0 - CIMSA UNAND

16th - 22th October 2022

PREBIOTHICS 3.0 (SCOPExSCORE Bioethics Day) was held in commemoration of World Bioethics Day. This year, we encouraged medical students to actively contribute to our sequence of activities: social media campaign, public discussion, and public poster competition. We kicked off this year’s PREBIOTHICS 3.0 by opening registration for college students of any background with an interest in bioethics to record a video with a concept called “Middle Ground”. The campaign set out a space to talk and to listen to volunteers’ arguments on the given prompt with no judgement. So that the discussion became interactive, we selected volunteers with not-so-exact perspectives to each other. On 16th October 2022, the video was taken offline with four volunteers signed on a written informed consent statement beforehand. The video had been airing on Youtube since November 6th, 2022. In our public discussion, we divided participants into several breakout rooms to have a focus group discussion. In each room, there were moderators to lead the participants to share their opinions on eight questions. After 60 minutes, we got back to the main room and listened to three spectacular speakers, Nabila Puspakesuma, S.Psi, M.Sc of CBMH FKKMK UGM, Prof. Dr. Rianto Setiabudy, Sp.FK(K), President of the Governing Board of MKEK IDI, and Prof. Eryati Darwin, PA(K)., Lecturer of Faculty of Medicine FK Unand, Member of MKEK IDI Wilayah Sumatera Barat. As a professional in their field, we got a lot more knowledge than we thought we would throughout their presentations. We learned The Impact of Technology Advancement to Bioethics and Humanities, Research Ethics of Vulnerable People, and Future Innovation of Technology and Healthcare and Its’ Bioethical Issues, respectively. Through the presentation and discussion session, all participants actively listened and discussed with our experts.

THROMBIN - CIMSA FK UIN SH

23th October 2022

A few researchers ignore the importance of bioethics law, which summarizes the rights of experimental animals in medical research, and the obligations of researchers in treating experimental animals. Based on an explanation of the importance of education related to experimental research and bioethical laws for experimental animals, SCORE CIMSA FK UIN SH facilitates KIR MP UIN students to become more familiar with experimental research and bioethics related to experimental animals in experimental research activities, through a seminar called THROMBIN (The importance of bioethics in research). This activity is expected to provide an overview to KIR MP UIN students about experimental research and increase awareness about bioethics, especially in experimental animals. THROMBIN by SCORE CIMSA FK UIN SH was held on Sunday, October 23 2022, and was attended by 8 KIR MP UIN students. With Putri Nurbaeti, who was ALSEN of CIMSA FK UIN SH, as the speakerat this event, the participants were very enthusiastic and played an active role in the webinar session. The event started at 13.00 WIB, starting with remarks from LOCO and PO, then the presentation of the material after that the games continued with Focused Group Discussion as well as presentations and ended with a group photo. Participants listened to the presentation and actively asked questions when presenting the material. During the FGD session the participants were active and able to present the case well. By increasing the knowledge of the participants about material related to bioethics, we not only hope that this event can be carried out and is beneficial for the participants, but members of CIMSA FK UIN SH can also use this knowledge to improve the quality of national education.
