Why do we call the hot, sultry days of summer “dog days?” Because between July and early September the hot sultry weather of summer occurs. During this peroiod, Sirius, the “dog star,” rises and sets with the sun. During late July Sirius is in conjunction with the sun, and the ancients believed that its heat added to the heat of the sun, creates a stretch of hot and sultry weather. They named this period of time, from 20 days before the conjunction to 20 days after, “dog days” after the dog star, Sirus “Beancan”

Scootergoods Magazine Is 7 Years Old

Scootergoods Magazine - 7 yrs in the making & continues to grow. I’m looking forward to the next 7yrs! Scootergoods Magazine - Sure is not your everyday run of the mill motorcycle magazine. We all ride & support all our advertiser’s with their events, along with bringing events to them. Why support an establishment that is not biker friendly if you don’t have to. With Scootergoods you know who is biker friendly & who is not. Granted some may not like us, saying were too risque & too rough around the edges - oh well. Then don’t read it. At least we are consistent & don’t change directions by which time of the year it is or which way the

wind has been blowing. Over the years Don V has committed to not sugar coating everything - telling it like it is & has allowed the staff to do the same. That is what attracted me to the magazine to begin with. Old Skool dedication, changing with the times as improvements arise but doesn’t change what’s not broken. You know a Scootergoods event when you see it but never know what going to happen next! There may not be all the flash & glitter but who needs it to have a good time. Take me for example - I may be a asshole but at least I’m a consistant asshole. With that said; I would like to thank Don V & all the staff for the opportunity, for the experences & for all the new people that I have met over the years. A lot of good friendships have also developed over the years - without them none of it would have been possible - “hope it all continues” - where will we all be at in the next 7yrs ? God willing - I’ll still be saddeling “Da Deuce” up for our next Scootergoods adventure with the wind in the hair (what’s left of it) heading down new pavement (as well as some old) , still jaw flappin about the good old times while sucking down a cold bottle of suds w/ friends & checking out all the Tits -n- Butts. Be safe - Brother John

Not all women like to wear pasties, but some do. And for those who choose to we will continue to publish photos of you in them. For one thing our readers like it and it doesn’t hurt the staffs feelings either. So we have decided it is time to feature some pasties shots every month. In our travels about this great state and the U.S.A. we will have our eyes open and cameras ready for PASTIES of any sort. Store Bought, Redneck, or whatever comes about.

The Pine Grove Lounge in Wildwood was a nice ride just to get things started. Of course the girls are gorgeous and serving Bloody Marys for just $2.50. I took us on an indirect route to the Thunder Inn about a 45 min ride. Darcy & Kelly were ready for us with the puddin shots and Chrissy had cooked up a big batch of clam chowder! This ride was already awesome and it’s only the second stop. (Cont. Pg. 32)

Bam, another year. It’s hard to believe that Scootergoods has rounded off no. 7. Seems just like yesterday I got a chance to cover a story for Scootergoods and never stopped writing for the best independent magazine out there with a team of real red blooded American bikers. I would like to thank Don V for letting me ramble on about things in the New York area and getting to read about it. At the same time I would like to take this moment to give a shout out to all my fellow Scootergoods brothers and sisters that make the magazine so successful. It is also the 7th Anniversary of our late brother’s untimely demise, Indian Larry but the legacy he left and the path he put us on in the life styles of the biker world was priceless. Bobby Seeger and Elisa have made this possible by keeping his spirit in their hearts and sharing it with all of us. Elisa’s shop at the corner of Gasoline Alley with the original Indian Larry logo offers tons of great apparel and memorabilia in his name. Not to mention so much more stuff and Bobby with his awesome custom bikes that emulate our late friend Larry’s style and originality. His shop can build you whatever you like from the frame up with an old school style to turn everyone’s head. (Cont. Next Pg.)

Charlie W. On Saturday July 10th, Chris, Benje, and I rode down to the Sand Trap Bar and Grill to check out the “home-made bikini” contest. The weather gave us a break , so we left Mike’s Friendly Pub and headed south. When we arrived the place was filling up fast. The girls were busy both inside and out. We said hello to the owner Jeff, who was busy making sure everything was taken care of. The weather was really nasty, but I counted 80 bikes in the parking lot. The food of choice was “drunken chicken,” and it was great with all the fixin’s. Lawless Intent kept the crowd jammin by playing some great tunes. Before we knew it, it was time for the home-made bikini contest. The competition was really fierce, but Samantha came up with the first place prize, with Bella Donna coming in second, Candi coming in third, and last but still a winner was Jeanice. The girls and the crowd had a great time. One of the bikini’s was made of edible material, and the water kept melting it,so you can imagine what happened after getting wet from the (Cont. Pg. 31)

(Charlie W. from 29) squirt gun.. We also had John and Free Wheelin Franklin from scootergoods show up to party with us. Since only four contestants were in the bikini contest Jeff also held a “best ink” contest, which was a great idea. I was not present to account for the winners, but I was able to capture some of the ink on my camera. If you have not been to the Sand Trap Bar & Grill, you need to come and visit them on the east side of hwy 19 between Weeki Wachee & hwy 98 just south of Homosassa. Jeff and the staff will show you a good time. Relax, sit back, and have a cold one in the laid back comfort of the Sand Trap. Tell them Charlie W. sent ya! Keep reading Scootergoods Mag. for the next event to be held at the Sand Trap. I was ready to find my recliner once again, so we all loaded up and headed north. Fortunantly the rain was gone, and we had a great ride home. Til next time.........Ride Safe & Often, Charlie W.

(FF from 20) Again we took a more scenic route out by Rock Crusher to High Octane where they are always ready to welcome riders. The lovely Cassandra had sandwiches ready to keep us happy & round. Ha ha Then a short hop to Two Deuces where Liz took care of us while we “got ready” :-) for the last leg of the ride. Down to the Sand Trap in Weeki Wachee where Jeff and his girls had the cold beer & great food already laid A Big ATA BIKER TO THE WINNERS

out for us. We only got rained on for about 2 min of this leg of the run. You’ll remember Sue from last months cover, she always brightens everyones day. So maybe next ride we can get more “riders” out to share in the fun. Keep the top side up. Freewheelin Franklin

Roadqueen:So anyone who has been riding lately knows we are in the rainy season here in Florida and the chances of you getting caught in the rain are real good right now, so this month I want to focus on a few tips about riding in the rain. Needless to say proper rain gear would be essential. However I bought new rain gear a couple of weeks ago but failed to put it on the bike. Duh. So seriously you need to know that roads are most slippery during the first 15 minutes of a rainstorm. Oil, brake fluid, transmission fluid etc. rise to the surface. The center of the lane generally has the greatest build up and the right side of the road has the run off so it’s best to try and follow in the track of the left rear tire of the vehicle in front of you. The colored rainbows you see on the roads when they’re wet…That’s oil.Another danger are those painted lines! They are extremely slippery when wet. This includes the turning arrows, crosswalks and the like. So remember don’t lean into the turn on painted lines, actually make a 90° turn using your handlebars. (Cont. Pg. 39)

(Road Queen form 35) SLOW DOWN! You’ve got nothing to prove. Make each movement gentle and gradual. Keep it smooth. This is where knowing your friction zone is important. It will help you keep every movement smooth. Don’t panic if you feel your rear tire slide a little. As long as your front tire is going in the direction you want the laws of physics will hold the bike up. In closing I recently learned a great trick for drying the inside of those waterlogged boots…Newspaper…stuff the inside of your wet boots with newspaper. To my amazement it really works! Till Next Month, Road Queen We at Scootergoods would love to hear from you!! Write me at roadqueenusa@gmail.com Leave me your phone number and email address...Please feel free to share a picture and your story. It’s a great way to encourage other women who are interested in riding. Tell us a bit about how you first started riding or share your most memorable ride.

NO SKOOL& MOUSE Happy Anniversary to Scootergoods for puttin out an awesome Mag for 7 years. Fits in your pocket to travel with you and always has some sexy lookin babes to look at. No Skool has been with Scootergoods Magazine for going on six years now, Damn near from the beginning seen a lot of shit change through the years. We have been there with Scootergoods from the beginning with the Old School biker rodeo, have got with Don & Janet Galbreath at Windy Acres in Fruitland Park and got the Scootergoods Anniversary party combined with their Halloween party. No Skool has also tried to get the scooterbabes project off the ground (which would do perfect with the travelin bike show). We have traveled as far as Okeechobee to cover “Riding with Angels” event. (That was an expensive trip there). No Skool has been involved in a lot of events from time to time. Covered all of them for the magazine. We have been to a lot of awsome events and have met some wonderful people out there doing a lot of things for the motorcycle community, people you wouldn’t even think of, it’s always the volunteers and the people behind the scene that make these things happen. So as long as we can hold out, we are gonna do our damndest to do it for as long as we can, so don’t forget we are watchin you. No Skool took a ride to the Sand Trap on Sunday to watch the homemade bikini contest. The party turned out good their ain’t nothing better than seeing girls half necked. Their was some good grub to eat too. “No Skool”

Another Horse Magazine SmokeOut is in the books... This was the 12th year for the SmokeOut and the third year to have this event at Rockingham, North Carolina Drag Park. For a two day event, this thing really packs in the bikers and tons of old school bikers at that. With over 100 acres of camping, the biker shenanigans go on all day and night. We don’t know the attendance, but Friday seemed to be the biggest day. Being set up as vendors representing Red’s Custom Cycle of Ohio and Scootergoods Magazine has it’s benfits. We were able to see everyone. (Too bad DonV couldn’t attend this year, but Chickenman was a GREAT representative.) This year they decided to do something new. Each vendor chose a lady to be body painted with their logo. The entertainment was awesome with headliners Rebel Son on Friday night and Jasmine Cain on Saturday night. The selection of old school bikes was unbelievable. Chicken’s new build (rat bike with sidecar) drew alot of attention and eventually we were interviewed by “Ride on America”, America’s motorcycle webshow. This interview will be shown on their website soon. Until next time......Chicken and Red

What’s Up Brothers and Sisters : The Captain is back from the trip to the North-land and ready to get er done on the grub scene so let’s get fired up and see what’s up.Many times I have drivin down CR48 and seen the Big Fish sign at the bridge, never once stopping to see what’s the poop, so this time I took a tip from Don-V and went to see for myself. Well I’ll tell ya its pretty cool, first the place is way clean and just a nice store with all the little things one needs to get along in-between big runs into town. Owner and operator Glen Busby is a very nice guy and I sure enjoyed talking with him. Now for the food -- great deli meats all Boars Head too and damn big subs at that for the money you can get 6” or 12” on diff. rolls, great Ham Bologna, Roast beef , Turkey, Capocollo, Salami, Pepperoni, along with all the fresh veggies condiments and cheeses ya get em hot, cold, pressed, grilled, whatever you want and he even has Breakfast Sammy’s as well. Not so much ya can’t decide but enough to fill any ones desires he even has a vegetarian sub which I got Cindy. On Friday he does some BBQ Ribs and Pork, one of the locals said it was real good I told him wow I’m a real fuss with BBQ he said OK come on so I will be back to give em a try next week for sure. To top it off you can sit by the river under great shade and relax with your babe and subs and a cool beverage and let the time go by, I will bring Cindy back on the scoot and enjoy the sound and smell of water and shade most definitely. And speaking of scoots hey FELLOW BIKERS The Big Fish Store is Biker Owned, YEP GLEN RIDES, he would love some runs come in and will work with ya if givin time to prepare for a mob. I like the place, my Subs were great and very filling and I’m going back to sit by the river fast as I can so think about it if on the road it’s about the only place in the immediate area to get some good grub on 48 just west of the Woodshed at 8271 W CR 48 Bushnell Fl. 33513 (352) 793-4744 that’s the BIG FISH general store and DELI Tell em the Captain sent ya. For most of us the 4th of July long weekend was a good time. But tragedy struck in Ruskin on Friday July 1st when Thomas Colson & passenger Galilee Howard where killed by 52 yr old Susanne Meyers. Meyers turned her 1988 Buick right into the path of Tom Colson. Tom & Galilee were thrown onto the roadway and died at the scene. What of Susanne Myers the driver of the car do you ask? SHE LEFT THE SCENE,leaving them to DIE. Myers was eventually found after her husband called the cops. Colson, was retired from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. According to records Susanne Meyers was arrested in January 2010 for DUI in Hillsborough County, HER B.A.C.WAS 0.15.There is no excuse for the hanoius and violent crime commited against 2 innocent bikers by Susanne Myers and it is the hope of the entire Scootergoods Staff that she is put on trial and covicted to the longest sentence the law will allow for the MURDER of Tom & Galilee. We will be watching this story and let you all know what happens. “DDay”

We are pleased to report Bikerjournalist Rigderunner is back scribblin’ his advertures for Scootergoods. He now resides in Clarksville TN. and will be lettin’ us know what’s up. He gave me a call and and wanted to attend the Kentucky Bike Fest,so I got on the phone and contacted the promotoer Tim Banks.Tim and his wife Yevett are also the owners of Cycle Works Choppers in Owensboro,KN. Tim was very abliging and Ridge & Becky where treated great. Little Sturgis is no more, but the 1st Tin & Yevett Kentucky Bike Fest is one for the books. It was a huge success Tim and Yevett Banks, the new promoters did one helluva job putting this event together. Their was 5000 plus people, with a schittload of vendors. A nice indoor arena for all the adult and bike games Fri and Sat. too. They also had covered bleachers for the dirt drags, which was a great show watching them bikes doin’ it in the dirt. On Friday Geneva played and that girl can sing and ain’t bad on the eyes either. Also on Friday they had oil wrestling and a wet t-shirt contest.

On Saturday Jacksonville Fl. Band Big Engine rocked this place. It was their first time around here and by the crowds response they will probably be back. There was about 15 of us that camped on the water in the shade, with Keith, Kara, and Danny camping beside us with a stripper pole, that was used from dusk til’ dawn both nights.

Owner Mike also had FREE BEER, and we all love that. Live Music by RockIt was also Goin’ On with DJin’ by Patty in between. There seemed to be alot of the BON crowd there too. I also got to meet the Jail Bait girls for the 1st time too. Several vendors where there including my good friend FTW Farrel and his wife, owners of Custom Touch Biker Jewlery. BBQ was also available, and there wuz some free stuff bein’ handed out. Mugsy was tearin’ it up on DNA’’s latest aquisition, A portable Dyno Tuner. As far as I know DNA is the Only shop in the area to have one, so if ya wanna get the most HP out of your motor call um up and get Dyno’ed. Ridgerunner & Becky from Tennessee On June 25 Me and Dougie headed over to Bowling Green Ky. for the harley only drags. There wuz both Factory & Amateur riders involved. It’s NON STOP balls to the wall racin’ for 3 days. It takes place twice a year in June & Sept. so we will be there again in the fall. July 4th weekend, we went to Four Rivers H-D in Paducka Ky to see Confederate Railroad & witness Bubba Blackwell jumping his 750 harley. And Dougie bought him a street glide while we was there too cuz he said they made him a deal he could not refuse. The salesman told Me,Jeff and Kortnie to go over to the shirt rack & get any shirt we wanted just because we all were together with Dougie. These Tennesseans finally got to try some of Ridges boston pork butts we had a little cook out with about 20 or so fellow bikers over some said it was the best ever had. There was a pretty good turnout for the 1st Free & Easy ride. There were 6 stops plus 1 unscheduled stop , and all

went well. The threat of rain, as always this time of year, but no drops hit today! Starting at Mickey’s, which is always a good place to start, I arrived to a parking lot already starting to fill. The Oar House had 2 girls to help us quench our thirst after the long ride from Mickey’s. :-) Mark at Mouse Trap had the Jumbalya ready for us and the beer was cold, perfect. Bogart’s was new to me but Trash Talking Tina was there to make me feel at home. Good job Bogart! Rainbow Pub was also new to me. An unscheduled stop was called for, ya know cause it was so far to the Sunray, but we did make it. The Sunray might be a ride but it’s really worth it. Cold beer, great food, live music! What more could you ask for? Great ride Tee & Curtis! Keep the top side up! Freewheelin Franklin

July 4th 2011; What a great way to celebrate America’s birthday, & George’s & Kojac’s at the same time. Jason cooked up some killer BBQ, chicken, burgers, dogs, & of course pork. Melanie & Chris got us all bumpin & grindin. And it gets better! Open bar from 3 to 4, ya that’s right “free beer”!! Now that doesn’t happen every day. So Mickey’s Bar was packed and everyone had a great time. Thanks George & Kojac! And the ladies serving us, Mickey, Dawn, & Cat all did an outstanding job keepin everyone “refreshed”. This month’s Tech-Tip is about maintaining the proper oil level in your Big Twin Harley. First off and most important, Harley engines are what is known as “Dry Sump Engines”.This means almost all of the oil is returned to the tank. As little as 1.5 pints are in the lower crankcase while running. You should always start your bike and warm it up before checking the oil. Now for the tech-tip, in my opinion the hot level on the models with the plastic dipstick(mostly touring models) has the hot level marked too high meaning they are over-full. In a hot climate like Florida, engines run hotter which increases oil expansion. When the oil level is over-full it causes the oil to mist out through the throttle body or carb throat and into the air cleaner, then gets blown down the side of the bike. So what I generally do is make a mark on the dipstick 3/16” below the Harley “full when hot” mark. Check the oil on the side stand only if the dipstick indicates to. And always check the oil level with the bike straight up. Now for the softball models, with the engine warm and the bike sitting straight up, the oil should be below the round tube that’s welded to the oil tank where the dipstick stopper goes in. If you have any questions on the matter feel free to give me a call. Happy motoring!

I bought my 1965 Harley-Davidson Panhead in 1976 in Ohio, my home state. On the way home, the bike being mine for less than five minutes, I was nearly run over by three cars and run off a bridge by another. My buddy Scott, who was following me home in his car, could only watch in horror as all this took place. Scott told me later that he just stopped the car, closed his eyes, and figured I was dead. Then he heard the distant rumble of the motor. Scott opened his eyes and there I was, riding away. At the same moment, I was giving the bike’s fuel tank a little tap while saying, with a knowing smile, “We’re buddies for life.” I’ve had the bike painted twice. Other than that, I’ve pretty much just ridden it since 1976. In 2009 I bought a 2004 VROD and the Panhead was taken off the road and disassembled…I figured it was time to take care of it in the same respectful way it had taken care of me all these years and treated it to new paint (including the frame), new wiring, and a few new chrome goodies. I had the solo seat reupholstered with the leather from the first black leather jacket I ever bought…the jacket still rides with the bike. A buddy at work, Lenny, painted the tanks and fenders a shiny black and our good friend Carmine (Big Ragoo) made the seat bracket. The first picture of me and the Panhead was taken in the summer of 1978 after the bike received its first paint job. And as much as my wife believes in activity of the paranormal, the hazy image you may see hanging around the back of the bike is simply her reflection (this is a picture of the original picture)! When I started to put the bike back together about 6 months ago I decided not to cut my normally shorter hair until the bike was totally road worthy, so I could pose for the camera and have a “1965 Panhead, Then and Now” kinda thing to hang on the wall. The second picture was taken one Saturday in June 2011 after I ironed out the last ofthe wrinkles and finally got the bike up and running. Later on that dayI was off to get a haircut! I ride the VROD back and forth to work when I don’t take my pickup, but on the weekends you’ll usually see me on the Panhead, and will probably be entering some of the up-and-coming bike shows. See you on the road!, “Paul”

Well the rain & many other excuses have kept Da Deuce & myself in the garage too much this past month. We did make it over to the “NEW” Stormie’s Too (formerly “Dee’s” in Hudson) for their Monday special “Liver & Onions”. If you like Liver & Onions - this is a keeper (2) large perfectly cooked & tender piece’s (plus the sides) - outstanding! Sunday July 10th headed up to the Sandtrap for their monthly party - this months theme - Homemade Bikini Contest - W/ Lawless Intent providing the tunes. The heat & humidity was brutal but the brew’s were good & cold. Hooked up with Charlie W, Franklin, Scrappy and Transmission Tom as we enjoyed the entertainment of the Homemade Bikini’s - made from shop rags to bows n ribbons to eatable candy (heat & humidity did a number on that one). Dam good crowd for the weather the way it was. Saturday July 9th at the Sail Inn was the Big Ragoo’s B-Day bash. Mother nature wanted to assure the humidity was plenty high again so she pissed on us early, then brought out the sun. Good reminder of Florida’s summer. Kay & Elrod - as usual were well prepared with plenty of help so you didn’t have to wait long for a ice cold adult beverage. Bar-Ba-Lew, again was outstanding with the food (chicken & pork). Joy was on the mic & organizing some games. Lost & Found provided the tunes - these 4 guys can rock! I would go to see them again - I was not disappointed. Very good variety & no problem hearing them. It was good to see several people that I had not seen in a while, which helped make the day even better. The birthday boy was on a roll! I think he posed for pictures with every women there - could not wipe the smile off his face. Happy Birthday dude! I know I’ve been bitchen a lot about President Dick Wad but WTF! Raise the national debt ceiling again? Like - keep raising your credit card limit with no means of paying it back. You talk about the deer in the head light look - the more he talks the more he contradicts himself & is totally clueless! Cure your debt by creating more debt - makes sense to me?? Of course all the while still sending foreign aid to countries who hates the red, white & blue. He announced millions of American’s that would be cut or not paid but no mention of the senate, congress or lobbyists be cut or not being paid. What’s up with that? Socialism at it’s finest. Till next month - Ride Free - Ride Safe - Ride Again - Brother John

Sunday, July 17th - Aprox 40 bikes signed up for the Mudd Buggz Poker Run where they had set out breakfast treats for prior to kickstands up. I hooked up with Carmine & some of the Pasco safety crew and it was off to the 2nd stop at BB Ma Gee’s . The 3rd stop was off to the Sail Inn. After an adult beverage & one of Bar-BaLew’s Mojo Taco’s it was off to the 4th stop at Roo’s Pub in Brooksville, where “Wrong Way” (show’s how he got the nickname) guided the group right past it. We were already off the bikes when the Pied Piper lead the group back around. The 5th stop took us up to the Sandtrap (North Weekie Wachee) where the cloud cover was beginning to pick up. The 6th stop was Tailgators as the sky was really starting to darken up. The 7th stop was back to Mudd Buggz which was an adventure as the sky unloaded on us. You could tell who was on the run by the wet puppies! At (New) Mudd Buggz you could see big changes in the place as: new metal ceiling (really brightens up the place, new patio & bar outback along with the Trolley Car. There was plenty of food & adult beverages. Outside the slow race & weenie bite contest’s kept the crowd’s attention along with “Lawless Intent” kicking out the Jams. Brother John

PIRATES PUB RISES FROM THE ASHES

A while back Pirates pub in Paisley had a ďŹ re causing it to close. Well we are happy to report The Renners, have rebulit and will be holding a grand opening party. The RISE FROM THE ASHES Grand Opening of the ship, will be taking place on August 13th. The Gang Plank will be down and Cold Beer will be the Booty of the Day. Pirates has long been a biker destination and is located in the small town of Paisley, (Population around 734) The main road through town is Cty. Rd. 42. It is a great ride on the way to Bikeweek or Biketoberfest because it whinds up intersecting with Hwy 44 just west of Deland and is well worth the trip.We here at Scootergoods wish the Renners good luck and commend them for re-opening a Biker Landmark. We hope all of you will take the time to drop your kiskstands at Pirates Pub. We most assurdly will!
