HE Port Shepstone Lions and Lion ladies celebrated their 44th Annual Presidential Induction Dinner on Saturday at Bela’s Mozambique Restaurant, Spiller’s Wharf. The evening was a special occasion as the club welcomed back recently inducted Lions District 410-C Governor Martin and Lion Lady June Rundle who returned from the Lions Clubs International Convention in Toronto, Canada. During his reply to toast Lions Clubs International Governor Rundle he described the wonderful experiences he had at the convention and meeting Lions members from all over the world. Outgoing club president André Beneke paid tribute to both the Lions and Lion ladies for their outstanding services to needy communities and individuals throughout the year. The prestigious Lion of the Year Award was presented to Lion Jeff Smith in recognition of his dedication to the community services

portfolio. The President’s Appreciation Medals were presented to Lion Alastair Warman in recognition of his commitment to fundraising projects and Lion Ronald Tarboton for his outstanding commitment to, and leadership of, the 2014 Lions Expo Project. Club PRO, the past district governor, Denis Meyer, was presented with the Lions Clubs InternationalMedalofMeritAward for his services to the Lions. Outgoing Lion lady president Estelle O’Neill presented her Lion Lady of the Year award to Jane Lion Massey in recognition of her efforts and ongoing support. Seventeen club members were awarded for 100% attendance throughout the year. Other awards included 25 Years of Membership awards to Lion Peter Mc Killen and Lion Richard Borradaile The15 Years of Membership award was presented to Lion Otto Wank.

Newly inducted Lions lady president Anna Compion and club president Alastair Warman address the gathering. TreasurerandSecretarymedals were presented to Lion Richard Borradaile and Lion Charles Wallis respectively. The Stirrer of the Year Award was presented to Lion Tarboton who qualified without any real competition. Meyer formally inducted Lion Alastair Warman as incoming president. In his acceptance speech André praised his predecessor for a very successful term as president.

He informed all members that during his term of office he will focus on improving the club’s community services and maintaining the club’s status as the largest and most successful in the district. Two new members, Buks Oosthuizen and Mike Marshall, were also formally inducted into the club by Martin Rundle. They were also welcomed to the ”pride” by members to Team Sheppie Lions. — Supplied.
