The conference took place on Saturday and was officially opened by Past District Governer Denis Meyer who encouraged Lions to reassess their attitude towards

During the prize­giving ceremony for the 2012/2013 district contests, Lion Presi­ dent André Beneke accepted two district awards on behalf of the club. These were the Ian Murray Project Pub­ lic Relations Award for the outstanding press coverage of the 2012 Lions Show and the IT Award for the club’s official website, the Lions Show website, the club’s active Facebook pages and efficient lines of com­ munication at all levels.

Meyer was also presented with the 2012/2013 Club Bulletin Award (multiple pages) in recognition of the club’s monthly newsletter the “Sheppie Pride”, which is widely read by Lions and supporters throughout the country and abroad. The club was also presented with an additional award for being a 100% con­ tributortowardsthedistrict’s“LouisHalse” Humanitarian Fund. Councillors must talk to communities about needs

HE KZN ANC Provincial Treasurer Peggy Nkonyeni has called on local municipal councillors to stay close to communities and be aware of their needs so they can keep them informed about what the government is doing or planning to do about addressing their needs. Nkonyeni said it is important for ward councillors to deliver and respond to the needs of the community as this will help the government get more support from the community. Accompanying her were ward councillors who responded to questions from the community on local government service delivery issues. “Councillors, you must give communities feedback on the issues they asked about during the mayoral imbizos. It is important to report constantly to the community on whether what they asked for will be delivered in this financial year or the next financial year. This helps the communitytoknowthatthegovernmentisconsidering what they asked for,” said Nkonyeni. She said during her interaction with the community she learnt that a lot has been done by the government to improve the lives of people,butthatmoreneedstobedoneinruralareas to fast-track service delivery, especially sanitation issues as some communities still use bucket toilet systems.
