As we move into the spring season, I’d like to take a moment to highlight the work being done by staff leadership, Scioto’s wide range of Committees, and the Board of Trustees From overseeing day-to-day operations to driving strategic initiatives, these dedicated individuals and groups are responsible for ensuring that all aspects of the Scioto experience are exceptional for our membership
The Role of the Board of Trustees and Staff Leadership
At the top of our leadership structure is the Board of Trustees, which plays a vital role in setting the long-term direction of the Club. The Board is responsible for approving the club’s budget, overseeing major decisions, and providing guidance on the overall mission of Scioto. They work closely with our professional staff leadership, headed by our General Manager/COO Joe Furko, to ensure that the club’s day-to-day operations align with our goals and priorities The staff leadership team is responsible for executing the vision of the Board by managing the club’s daily functions, providing support to the committees, and ensuring that all amenities and services meet the high standards we have come to expect Together, the Board and staff leadership work to create a strategic and efficient process for enhancing the member experience
Core Operational Committees
Scioto has five core operational Committees that focus on maintaining and improving the key amenities that define our Club These Committees ensure that our facilities are in top condition and that our programs are engaging and enriching for our membership
· Golf Committee + Green Committee: These Committees are responsible for managing the golf course, organizing tournaments, and ensuring the overall quality of the Scioto golfing experience. The Green Committee is focused on the maintenance and playing conditions of our golf course and works closely with course management to ensure that the grounds are maintained to the highest standards. From course maintenance to tee time reservations, these Committees strive to ensure that members have an enjoyable and challenging golf experience year-round.
· Aquatics Committee: The Aquatics Committee oversees the pool area, ensuring it is well-maintained and safe for all members. They manage swim lessons, team activities, and aquatic fitness programs. The Committee also organizes seasonal events, making the pool a vibrant and enjoyable space for families and individuals alike.
· Racquets Committee: This Committee manages our tennis, paddle and pickleball programs, overseeing court maintenance, scheduling, and ensuring that players of all levels have access to a dynamic and welcoming racquets community They are also responsible for organizing leagues, lessons, and social events that enhance the racquet sports experience.
· Fitness Committee: Focused on promoting wellness, the Fitness Committee manages the fitness center and wellness programs. They are responsible for ensuring that our fitness equipment is in top condition and that we offer a wide range of fitness classes, from yoga to strength training, that cater to the diverse needs of our members.
· Member Experience Committee (formerly House): This Committee plays a crucial role in overseeing all food, beverage, and event-related activities. They work with the culinary team to develop menus, organize special events, and ensure that our dining offerings meet the tastes and preferences of our members. Whether it’s a casual dinner or an elegant banquet, the Member Experience Committee works to ensure that the small details that drive a memorable experience are in focus.

Specialized Committees
In addition to our core operational committees, we have several other specialized committees that support specific areas of the Club’s operations and strategic initiatives These committees are crucial for guiding longterm decisions and improving member engagement across various facets of the Club
· Membership Committee: This Committee is responsible for overseeing the new member selection process and criteria. They help create a welcoming environment for new members and organize events that foster a sense of community at the Club.
· Finance Committee: The Finance Committee ensures the financial health of the Club by reviewing budgets, monitoring expenses, and ensuring that the Club remains financially sustainable while delivering exceptional services.

· Tournaments Committee: This group is responsible for organizing and overseeing the Club’s tournament calendar, comprised of both amateur and professional golf tournaments. Scioto has a storied history of tournament golf, and this Committee works to continue that legacy
· Traditions Committee: The Traditions Committee ensures that Scioto’s rich history and traditions are honored and celebrated. This Committee oversees both the formal and informal traditions that help define the culture and heritage of Scioto.
· Golf Course Access Committee: This newer Committee is actively discussing policies and procedures related to access to the golf course, ensuring that course usage is optimized, and that membership access is equitable.
· 2026 USSO Committee: This special Committee is dedicated to planning and organizing Scioto’s involvement in the 2026 United States Senior Open. They manage logistics, promotions, and member engagement as the Club prepares for this prestigious event.
· Nominating Committee: The Nominating Committee is responsible for selecting candidates for the Board of Trustees and other key Club positions. They ensure that the leadership of the Club reflects the interests and values of the membership.
The work of these Committees is essential to the ongoing success and growth of Scioto Country Club. Through their collective efforts, they ensure that every aspect of the Club is thoughtfully managed and that our members have a top-tier experience at every turn.
We are grateful for the time, dedication, and expertise that each committee brings to the table. Their efforts, in collaboration with our Board of Trustees and staff leadership, help Scioto in our quest to be the premier country club in the nation.
I would encourage all members to engage with the committees and share your feedback, ensuring that we continue to improve and grow together as a club. We are incredibly fortunate to have a club like Scioto, and the Board is committed to building upon the strong foundation we've established It’s an honor to serve this Club, and we will continue striving to build on past successes while moving us forward

As March arrives, we're gearing up for an ambitious shutdown period. Our schedule includes major construction on the north campus, kitchen renovations, carpet replacement in multiple areas, and upgrades to both our club operating software and phone systems – all while maintaining our regular deep cleaning and facility maintenance routines.
The new computer software launches on March 3rd Members should experience minimal disruption, with the only notable change being temporarily unable to view March charges In early April, we'll introduce our new website, which will have more significant implications for members We'll provide comprehensive guidance on these changes as we approach the launch date
North Campus construction continues to progress, with the framing crew now on site and walls expected to take shape this week. Unfortunately, the cold temperatures have impacted our timeline, putting us roughly four weeks behind schedule. We're optimistic that we can make up some lost time during the framing phase and through concurrent construction of the Golf House.
Our kitchen renovation begins March 10th within a compressed completion timeline. Currently, all equipment deliveries are scheduled to arrive on time. We're excited to showcase the new kitchen during our open house on March 27th, followed by the reopening of our dining rooms for à la carte service on March 28th, featuring a fresh menu.
Mark your calendar for March 6th, when we'll launch hospitality sales for the 2026 US Senior Open. We invite all members to join us to show their support. June 29th, 2026 will be here before we know it, and we'll need everyone's engagement to make this event a success – not just for SCC, but for the entire Columbus community

Jack Hesler: A Legacy of Excellence at Scioto Country Club
Some names in the history of Scioto Country Club stand out not just for their accomplishments but for the way they carried themselves both on and off the course. One of those names is Jack Hesler – one of the most accomplished amateur golfers in Club history but also a true gentleman and model Member.
From his flawless golf swing to his steady temperament and constant respect for his fellow Members, Jack embodied class His approach to membership at Scioto was defined by a lesson his father gave him when he joined the Club:
“Starting today, you need to continuously prove to the membership of Scioto Country Club that when they accepted you as a fellow member, they did not make a mistake.”
Jack took that advice to heart, and his legacy is undeniable He won the Club Championship a record 17 times, finished runner-up 7 times, and captured 7 Senior Club Championships. His competitive record at the state and national levels was equally impressive.
Still, Jack’s contributions to the Club extended beyond the trophies he won. He represented everything great about Scioto Country Club – respect for the Club, sportsmanship, and an enduring commitment to excellence. His legacy continues to inspire, reminding us all of the standards that define our Club and the humility and respect that are the hallmarks of a true champion.

Dear Member,
As we near closer to the beginning of golf season, we would like to provide an update on registration for the 2025 Men’s Invitational (June 12-14) Registration will be completed online through Golf Genius to streamline our process.
The registration link we will be emailed on Tuesday, March 4th at 8:00am. Members will have until Sunday, March 9th to submit their registration. No late entries will be accepted. This year’s Invitational lottery will be conducted live at the Masters Party on Thursday, April 3rd in the Men’s Grille
The bullet points listed below outline the determining factors for the selection process of our Invitational field.
The defending champion from the prior year’s event will receive an exemption into the field. The defending champion is not required to keep the same guest.
The first year submitting an entry card members will receive ONE lottery ball
If a member does not get selected the first year and he submits his entry card for a second consecutive year, he will receive TWO lottery balls
If a member does not get selected for two years and submits an entry card for a third consecutive year, he is automatically exempt into that year’s event
If a member plays in the event for three consecutive years, he is automatically out the fourth year
If a member plays in the prior year’s event and submits an entry card, he will receive ONE lottery ball
New full members are not eligible to submit an entry card within their first full calendar year
Each member will be assigned a lottery ball number or numbers. We will select these balls at random until the field is full Once the field is set, we will continue to select balls until none remain to determine the waitlist order
As a reminder, you must submit your registration to be eligible for the lottery even if you are exempt into the field.
The Men’s Invitational is the most subscribed event at the Club. Thank you for your continued support of our tournament program
Kind Regards,
The Golf Staff

Scioto's Fifth Evans Scholar!
Just when we thought the news couldn’t get any better, Scioto Country Club is proud to announce that a fifth caddie from our ranks has been awarded the prestigious Chick Evans Scholarship. Ben Sommer, who was previously named a Keiser Scholar through the Evans Scholars Foundation, has now earned a three-year Evans Scholarship.
Ben is already a freshman at Miami University, where he has excelled both in the classroom and as a student leader. His dedication and hard work paid off in a big way he finished his first semester on the Dean’s List, a testament to his commitment to academic excellence. Now, with the Evans Scholarship, he will continue his education at Miami with full tuition and housing support for the next three years.
This brings Scioto’s total to five Evans Scholars this year an outstanding achievement for our caddie program and a reflection of the incredible support from our members Thanks to your generosity, mentorship, and commitment to hiring and training young caddies, Scioto continues to be a leader in fostering opportunities for youth through caddying Looking ahead to next year, Scioto will have nine Evans Scholars in school at Miami, Notre Dame, and Ohio State This is a testament to the strength of our program, the dedication of our caddies, and the leadership of our caddie manager, Jason Dick, whose guidance continues to shape young men and women for success.
Congratulations, Ben, and congratulations to the entire Scioto community for making these lifechanging opportunities possible!

Drive Chip & Putt
With the golf season rapidly approaching the National Drive, Chip and Putt registration is currently open. Scioto had an unbelievable turnout last year with over 70 kids participating in the local qualifier. We had 11 juniors advance through the local qualifier and 3 advance to the regional finals! How awesome!
Last fall, Eva Emerson finished 2nd at the Regional Final held at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, KY
The 2nd place finish finish earned her an alternate spot in the 2024 National Finals at Augusta National for the 2nd straight year.
Drive, Chip and Putt is a great program for experienced juniors and brand new beginners to the game. Juniors have an opportunity to advance though local, sub-regional, and regional qualifying to earn a place in the national finals, which is conducted at Augusta National Golf Club the Sunday before the Masters Tournament.
This spring we will host a special Scioto Training Day for juniors who sign up for the national drive, chip and putt This will be a great opportunity for our juniors to test their skills and experience the drive, chip and putt before they attempt to qualify at the local level in June Our training date will be Monday, May 12th, 4:30pm to 7:30pm Registration for our training day is currently open via ForeTees. Make sure to sign up today!
Registration for the national drive, chip, and putt is currently open via the website: drivechipandputt.com. Please check out the website for additional information on drive, chip and putt and make sure to pick a local qualifier. Golf Club of Dublin and Blacklick are the two local qualifiers in Columbus along with many other options in Southern Ohio. Let’s show our Scioto junior golf pride and make sure to get signed up this year!
Let’s get someone to Augusta!
