Warmer temperatures are on the horizon as we enter April, and I am pleased to share a few key updates on the status of several capital projects currently underway at Scioto Country Club. A key element in enhancing and expanding the Scioto Food & Beverage experience last year was the addition of our Executive Chef, Vinnie Gilliard. Building on this momentum, Scioto undertook a significant capital investment this year to improve the kitchen’s layout and workflow, as well as upgrade equipment, airflow, lighting, and food storage.
I’m excited to announce that many of these enhancements have now been completed On Thursday, March 27th, we had the pleasure of hosting a tour for approximately 200 members and their families, offering them a behind-the-scenes look at the improvements. For many, it was a unique opportunity to witness firsthand the efforts that go into creating the exceptional Scioto Food & Beverage experience.
Additionally, the construction of the new Learning Center at Scioto is progressing steadily. Despite the challenging winter weather, the framing of the structure is now complete, marking a significant step toward bringing the new building to life. The facility is on track for completion, with operations set to begin in October of this year. Furthermore, we are staying on budget for the project. Once completed, the facility will feature five hitting bays, each outfitted with the latest Trackman technology to support members’ game improvement. All membership categories will have year-round access to the facility.
Construction of the new Golf House is set to begin after the demolition of the existing structures. We anticipate starting demolition in May, pending the approval of the necessary permits. Special recognition goes to Bob Becker, Tristan Myers, and the entire Grounds team for their incredible work on the North Campus project The Grounds crew has been tackling a variety of tasks, from excavating and backfilling for the new Learning Center to installing the sanitation line and preparing pads for the new artificial turf tees on the range. All of this is being done while carefully maintaining the grounds as we transition out of winter and get the golf course ready for the 2025 season.

The staff at Scioto Country Club is the foundation that makes the Club such a special place for our membership and community. Continuing to build upon that foundation and investing in our staff provides an opportunity for our membership to “Pay it Forward.” With that in mind, the Scioto Employee Scholarship Fund (SESF) recently completed its third full year of existence. In 2024, the SESF surpassed another key milestone: over $400,000 in funds have been raised to date for scholarships benefiting both our staff and their families. It is exciting to see that our membership has given thoughtfully and generously to the Fund. In 2024, the SESF raised more than $158,000 through member contributions and special events. Scholarships totaling $42,000 were awarded to twenty deserving individuals, allowing them to pursue academic enrichment and their dreams. The SESF continues to make a significant impact, and I’m grateful to our membership for their contributions and leadership in building a solid foundation for the Fund
It is an exciting time to be a member at Scioto Country Club. Whether investing in staff and future generations via the Employee Scholarship Fund, or volunteering for the 2026 U.S. Senior Open tournament, Scioto continues to help build community in Upper Arlington. And that is how we will—and should—continue to be viewed in central Ohio. It’s an honor to serve the Club, and we will endeavor to continue building on our past successes while moving us forward.

As we embrace the familiar adage "April showers bring May flowers," we're certainly experiencing the truth of this saying firsthand. The abundant rainfall we've received lately has tested our patience, but the forecast suggests brighter days are on the horizon, promising the colorful blooms that make spring so special.
We're pleased to report that Miller Cabinet has completed the repairs to all affected lockers in the ladies' locker room following the recent break-in incident. For members whose lockers sustained damage, new doors have been installed throughout the facility. While this process took longer than initially anticipated due to the need for matching components, we appreciate your understanding during this restoration period. The end result ensures our facilities maintain their high standards of quality and security
The north campus renovation project continues to progress, though winter's harsh conditions created some unexpected challenges. To optimize our construction timeline, we've adjusted our schedule to include simultaneous demolition of both the cart barn and Hilton this spring. This strategic adjustment will help us recover lost time while maintaining efficiency. We're particularly proud to report that despite the weather-related setbacks, the project remains within our projected budget constraints. During our recent club shutdown, we successfully completed approximately 90% of the planned kitchen remodeling work. The transformed kitchen space has exceeded our expectations and represents a significant upgrade to our facilities. We appreciate your continued support as our staff adapts to the new layout and capabilities of this enhanced space.
In addition to the new kitchen, we’ve implemented a new Club software. Our new website has launched, however the new Club app is coming at a later date. We will keep you updated with more information.

Our aquatics program continues to be a source of pride for our community. The winter swim team's season was marked by remarkable achievements, with several of our young athletes qualifying for the State Championship. Under Coach Nate's leadership, the SCC Sharks have reached unprecedented levels of success, with an impressive number of swimmers achieving personal best times throughout the season. This momentum has created considerable excitement for the upcoming summer season. In response to member feedback, the swimming committee has approved extended pool hours, with the facility now opening one hour earlier on weekends and holidays to better serve our community's needs.
Regarding seasonal maintenance, we have scheduled the removal of both the pool and tennis bubbles for the period between May 10th and May 20th. As this process requires specific weather conditions—particularly dry conditions for proper removal and storage— we will communicate the exact date once weather patterns become more predictable. Members will receive updated notifications as we finalize these plans.

“Tell me again, how does the cell phone policy work?”
The frequent question from new, and some long time members for that matter, is when, or if, a cell phone may be used on Club property. The short answer is: If you must use a cell phone, anything audible (a conversation or playing voicemails) may only be conducted in the following locations:
-next to one of the Club’s land lines, - in your car, - on the pool deck, - Fitness Center Café, or - the tennis pro shop.
Various House Committees and Boards have reviewed the Mobile Device Policy, trying to balance the recognition that cell phones are a vital part of members’ professions and lives, against a fundamental precept of the Club which is that a member’s enjoyment of the Club should not be diminished by another member’s actions
The feelings of members about cell phones range from: “They shouldn’t be allowed anywhere on the property ” to “What is the big deal about cell phones?”, but just about everyone has a strong feeling about cell phone usage. It is important enough that a separate “Mobile Device Policy” is listed on the Club’s website. It is also important enough that a few members, regrettably, have been suspended for repeated violations.
Here are some common questions about mobile device usage:
Q: Can I check or send text messages or emails?
A: Yes, anywhere on the property, but on the golf course it is strongly, strongly (don’t do it) discouraged, and you must not hold up the pace of play.
T R A D I T I O N S
Q: If I must have a cell phone conversation, where are the Club’s land line devices?
A: There are land line devices located:
-Under the steps immediately on your right as you come in the south portico entrance.
-In the locker rooms.
-In the lounge area next to the Men’s Grille.
-In the half-way house and shelter houses on the golf course.
These locations, and the others listed above, are the ONLY places you should be audibly using your cell phone.
Q: Why do I have to be in my car in the parking lot?
A: The Board debated this one for a long time, but the conclusion was: How can we ask our guests to respect the policy when the first thing they see is a member talking on their phone? (This same thinking applies to the practice range.)
Q: What happens if a guest violates the Mobile Device Policy?
A: If a guest violates the policy, the inviting member is violating the policy.
If you have any questions about the Mobile Device Policy, please check with our General Manager, Joe Furko, or another of our senior administrative staff.

Dear Member,
I’m excited to introduce the newest member of our professional staff, David Sadler, who joins us as an Assistant Golf Professional at Scioto Country Club.
David comes to us from Blacksburg, Virginia, and inspiring background. After graduating high school, David enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served for eight years in various leadership roles and locations across the country. Following his military service, he continued his commitment to serving others as a police officer with the Blacksburg Police Department.

What’s been constant throughout David’s journey is his deep passion for the game of golf. He competed on the All-Army Sports golf team against other branches of the military and volunteered with the Veteran Golfers Association to help active-duty soldiers and veterans build camaraderie through golf. His commitment to service, leadership, and the values the game represents make him a wonderful addition to our team.
David shared these words upon joining the staff:
“From the moment I stepped on property, I immediately knew what an incredible place Scioto Country Club is. It is a privilege to be a member of the golf staff here. I look forward to serving the membership daily and providing light on how great of a game golf is and how it continues to enrich our lives. When I had the opportunity to visit for the first time in the fall, it was immediately evident I was surrounded by great people—members and staff alike. Thank you to Joe Falardeau and everyone that has had a hand in entrusting me to be a team member at such a distinguished Club.”
Please join me in giving David a warm welcome. I know you’ll enjoy getting to know him, and I’m confident he’ll make a meaningful impact on the member experience here at Scioto.
Sincerely,
Joe Falardeau, PGA Director of Golf

Drive Chip & Putt

With the golf season rapidly approaching the National Drive, Chip and Putt registration is currently open. Scioto had an unbelievable turnout last year with over 70 kids participating in the local qualifier. We had 11 juniors advance through the local qualifier and 3 advance to the regional finals! How awesome!
Last fall, Eva Emerson finished 2nd at the Regional Final held at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, KY. The 2nd place finish finish earned her an alternate spot in the 2024 National Finals at Augusta National for the 2nd straight year.
Drive, Chip and Putt is a great program for experienced juniors and brand new beginners to the game. Juniors have an opportunity to advance though local, subregional, and regional qualifying to earn a place in the national finals, which is conducted at Augusta National Golf Club the Sunday before the Masters Tournament.
This spring we will host a special Scioto Training Day for juniors who sign up for the national drive, chip and putt. This will be a great opportunity for our juniors to test their skills and experience the drive, chip and putt before they attempt to qualify at the local level in June. Our training date will be Monday, May 12th, 4:30pm to 7:30pm. Registration for our training day is currently open via ForeTees. Make sure to sign up today!
Registration for the national drive, chip, and putt is currently open via the website: drivechipandputt.com. Please check out the website for additional information on drive, chip and putt and make sure to pick a local qualifier. Golf Club of Dublin and Blacklick are the two local qualifiers in Columbus along with many other options in Southern Ohio. Let’s show our Scioto junior golf pride and make sure to get signed up this year!
Let’s get someone to Augusta!
