III) IBBA/BBA PROGRAM COMMITTEE Currently, Mohammed Dada (1st year BBA Representative), Clarine Chan (VP Finance), Daniel Loduca (VP Athletics), Roni Levit (2nd year BBA Representative), and Thuy Tien Tran (International Representative) sit on the Programs committee. The purpose of this committee is to discuss changes and issues that arise in the Undergraduate BBA and iBBA program. Elected UBS Representatives act as the voice for the students for every discussion that is had and often will bring up issues that they find within the student community to discuss at the meeting.

Dean Horvรกth provides all of UBS with great advice in regards to how we can become better student leaders for our community. UBS uses this opportunity to bring up the most prominent issues that we face as a council so we can hear from our Dean's perspective on the best courses of action to take. Meetings with the Dean often occur 2-3 times a semester.

III) STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE ROUNDTABLE Anika Peng (President) is the Schulich undergraduate representative that sits on SRR. Many other college and faculty Presidents also sit on this board where discussions are held around major university changes on a student life basis and the focuses the university is taking that affects our positions. SRR meets roughly once per month.

4. UBS NON-ADMINISTRATIVE MEETINGS As of the 2019-2020 school year, UBS has officially begun Club Presidents meetings twice a semester to help enhance the liaison between the Undergraduate Clubs and UBS. We discuss everything from current issues clubs are facing, new marketing strategies, to what UBS has been up to in the background. This allows for more transparency between everyone and helps to build stronger relations. They are led by Shirin Dinyarian (VP Communications) and Anika Peng (President).

II) CANADIAN ASSOCIATION OF BUSINESS STUDENTS (CABS) UBS is one of the Business Student Associations that is affiliated with CABS. This is a national organization that brings together business student council executives together through various mediums. The first would be quarterly conferences, attended by UBS Executives. This is a platform for all business councils to learn from each other and the methods that are being used to run events throughout the country. The Presidents of the BSAs also have an opportunity to be a part of the Board of Directors' Meetings that happen monthly to discuss any ongoing CABS matters. Outside of these conferences, CABS is also responsible for organizing JDCC, which Schulich has a team for. Being a part of CABS allow us to submit a team each year, which is how UBS and JDCC are related.

III) YORK ORIENTATION DIRECTORS’ ASSOCIATION (YODA) Every summer, all the Orientation Chairs and Presidents of the colleges, faculties, and Glendon come together to form YODA. This is how all of the Orientation Week planning is done collaboratively. Everyone is trained on how to run their week to be safe, inclusive, and fun for all students. This runs from the beginning of the summer until O-Week. This year, both O-Chairs, Avnit Chhabra and Kia Mozaffari, and the President, Anika Peng, were a part of YODA.

IV) COLLEGE PRESIDENTS’ ASSOCIATION (CPA) Throughout the summer and during the school year, the Presidents of the colleges, faculties, and Glendon form a team called CPA where we discuss the issues we face on a student level and the events that we host. This allows for cross-collaboration as well as better college-faculty relations. These meetings happen weekly in the summer and biweekly in the school year. The President, Anika Peng, sits on these meetings.

V) YORK SENATE Monica Peav (VP Operations) sits on the York Senate. The Senate is responsible for the University's academic policy and activities include but is not limited to: regulating standards for admission, determining contents for courses of study, establishing requirements for graduation, and it acts as the last platform for student appeals after the Executive Committee. There are 168 elected and ex-officio members of the Senate who are representative of the University's community.

The President oversees all UBS events and assists all UBS executives in their respective roles. With experience as the UBS O-Chair and a VP on several clubs, as well as a leadership background in the areas of marketing, accounting, public relations, and retail, Anika Peng has been able to apply herself to the role through various perspectives.

In order to ensure consistency throughout the UBS Executive Committee, the President’s routine tasks consist of coaching members throughout the year, conducting one-on-one’s with them each month, attending the meetings within specific portfolios nearing the time of their respective events, and requiring that the President’s team constantly communicates key updates so that the President can identify areas in which to assist.

This role also entails managing different stakeholders such as York faculty, The Centre for Student Community and Learning Development (SCLD), Canadian Association of Business Students (CABS), College Presidents Association (CPA), York Orientation Directors Association (YODA), and the undergraduate population. As the primary liaison between Schulich students and most stakeholders, the President has made it a priority to improve UBS’s relationships amongst said parties. Spending time with different stakeholders, attending faculty events, having a presence at external conferences or meetings, and being open in communication allows the President to facilitate important conversations.

In order to reach success in her role, the President must lead the students within the community with high levels of communication and act as the liaison between stakeholders, students, and the UBS team. The President is responsible for sitting on the executive committee, faculty committee, and the CPA team of the York University campus.

CLARINE CHAN VP FINANCE 2019-2020. ELECTED.

The VP of Finance’s core responsibility is the management of the inflow and outflow of money out of all the UBS functions as well as the ensurement of a reasonable budget is kept for all events & projects. The VP of Finance’s core purpose is to ensure financial sustainability for future functions and provide logistical and financial support to the UBS members. Additionally, the VP measures values regarding financial numbers to constituents of all the events and projects; holding the duty to reimburse all the UBS members for the expenses incurred of the events and maintaining transparency regarding the financial activities to the student body. To ensure financial sustainability, clarity, and thoroughness to meet the required government and public regulations, the VP is required to complete the annual audit conducted by auditors; meeting their requirements of a thorough and sufficient portrayal of UBS’ operations from a financial perspective. As a support function, the VP supports all events and project functions to make sure there is enough funding to run the portfolio events. In specific, the VP of Finance pays out invoices and amounts to vendors associated with UBS activities and is in charge of giving reimbursements to the stakeholders without any delay or associated penalty. Furthermore, the VP manages the documentation (physical, electronic) of all financial (and occasional non-financial) movements related to UBS and its activities for all events and projects in an orderly and clear manner. This year, the VP has successfully been able to decrease the turnover time between expenses and reimbursements to 2 weeks. Also, there has been an increase in clarity in regards to the total tracking of all financial movements (invoices, cheques and payment).

Furthermore, there was a major decrease in budget spending due to a new Student Choice Imitative (SCI) year. For this, her efforts included further working with the Schulich and York administration, UBS auditor (Baker Tilly) to comply and adapt to new essential vs. nonessential fees and meeting new levy release regulations through obtaining an HST number for UBS from the CRA. Additionally, she was involved in preparations of decrease in levy in all budgeted portfolios and brought forth new implementations of budget tracking towards all executives. Lastly, to ensure clarity within the finance committee, the VP created a rotational process to complete reimbursements. This new concept was accomplished by creating a highlight of steps, procedures, and guidelines of methods the financial committee shall operate under.

For the remainder of the year, the VP wants to continue in her efforts of being transparent to the public regarding the data of actuals vs budgeted and proportions of what is spend as expense vs the ticket cost to measure value to our students. Lastly, she hopes to achieve a stronger turnover for reimbursements and the development of detailed guidelines of this position for the upcoming elections.

Academics is committed to encouraging students to apply knowledge from classrooms to reallife situations in an engaging, team-oriented, and holistic manner. Through UBS’s two flagship conferences, RISE and SPARK, Academics has been able to facilitate the development of teamwork, time management, and strategic skills integrated in their competitions. The development of these soft skills, which are invaluable in the workplace, are made available to all Schulich students at an affordable cost with little interference to their studies. This year, Academics has effectively hired separate committees for SPARK and RISE to promote diverse ideas and fresh perspectives. Each committee was able to maintain their focus on delivering the highest quality products and services to students at Schulich. In addition, through changing RISE back to a one-day conference, there was the introduction of a new discipline within RISE – Digital Strategy, a practice that is becoming highly prominent within the community.

In the upcoming term, Academics aims to work with its newly-hired first-year representatives to host two workshops in the Winter term for MGMT 1050 and ACTG 2011. For their long term goals, the focus of the committee falls on implementing JDCC Academics under the Academics portfolio, working to improve passages of communication between administration and students, and to ease the course selection process.

THe VP of Communication's position serves to be the support function for all Schulich sanctioned clubs as a liaison between UBS and Schulich clubs. The VP is to provide them with support, resources, and availability to address any concerns or questions they might have. The success of Schulich sanctioned clubs results in providing value to the undergraduate community as the members part of the club receive most out of their membership. This role expects the individual to provide the student body with opportunities that result in their growth, involvement with the Schulich community and professional development. Events under the VP of Communication’s portfolio include Club Week held in September, NOVA case competition alongside the Second-Year iBBA representative in November, and Dean’s lunches held twice per semester.

The core responsibility of the individual is to take meeting minutes at UBS meetings and organize professional development events. This position should expect to work closely with all Schulich clubs and support, respond to any questions, and solve concerns as they occur.

Finally, the VP aims to build greater relations with the Schulich alumni as she plans to work with alumni relations in Schulich administration to find new methods that the undergraduate community can connect with alumni.

HARIS ALI VP CORPORATE RELATIONS 2019-2020. ELECTED.

The prime function of the VP of Corporate Relations is to raise funds for all student group initiatives within UBS. This process begins with the VP identifying and contacting prospective corporate partners, then continuing with developing and maintaining strong business relationships.

With the funding that acquired through the VP’s work, UBS can commit to providing Schulich students with highly educational and enjoyable experiences. The VP of Corporate Relations seeks to deliver monetary & in-kind sponsorships to support initiatives like Mental Health Week and RISE Conference and Case Competition, his largest project with which he collaborates with the VP of Academics.

This year, Corporate Relations was able to raise a greater amount of monetary funding than the 2018-2019 school year, demonstrating UBS’s drastic improvement in the experiences it can deliver to students. One major accomplishment was the implementation of the first career fair at RISE, where the VP was able to bring in representatives from TD Wealth, Royal Bank of Canada, Ernst and Young, Redbull, and White Gold Corp. Given the students’ high demand to network with these organizations, they were able to build relationships along with gaining new perspectives on several industries and careers.

The future of UBS’ VP of Corporate Relations focuses on the enhancement of relationships with current corporate partners as well as the introduction of several new organizations. The VP aims to develop fulfillment reports for all UBS affiliated organizations in order to demonstrate to corporate partners that their past and future contributions are intended to and will be used to the fullest benefit to students. In addition, the VP will be seeking new sources to fund Mental Health Week, SPARK, and other upcoming events and initiatives to promote innovation and expansion within UBS events.

The prime function of VP of Student Life is to plan, organize, and oversee the variety of student social activities held for the student body. The VP and its respective committee ensures that the student body has opportunities to be engaged, entertained, and successful throughout the year.

As a VP, she expected to be engaged in a close working relationship with other UBS executive members to host various social events and be available to the student body at all possible times.

She is expected to perform all duties with due diligence and the highest level of integrity and holds the responsibility to support all activities and special events under the position’s portfolio through attendance and participation.

In 2019, the required portfolio events under the VP of Student Life consists of the Homecoming social night, Halloween social night and holiday photo booth. In 2020, VP is responsible for organizing and overseeing Frost Week and Battle Sports with athletics committee. This year, the VP along with her committee was able to accomplish the biggest turnout of the homecoming social nights with more than 300 people in attendance. Additionally, the VP decided to have the Frost MTL Week conjunct with Winter’s and Mclaughlin college to increase the relationship between York and Schulich committee and to achieve an overall success for the event.

For the remainder of the year, the VP of Student Life aims to breakeven for the Frost MTL Week while providing a high degree of value for the students and organize another social night in the winter term.

The purpose of the UBS athletic committee is to run all events within Schulich related to recreational physical athletics. These activities serve students with a purpose to relieve stress caused by academics, personal, and professional responsibilities.

The VP works to maintain the relationship of Schulich with the rest of the York University’s college community. The VP has an important role in building awareness around the importance of mental and physical health and maintaining a proper work-life balance and provides constituents with a free outlet for their energy when other options, such as off-campus recreational leagues, aren’t as cost-efficient.

The VP of Athletics manages all of the official Schulich intramural teams through supervision and participation. As a VP, he ensures that the conditions of the match and the teams are conducive to a fun and stress-file environment, ensuring that there are enough players for each game, and making sure that everyone is having an enjoyable time. Additionally, he facilities and plans both Fall and Winters Schulympics alongside the UBS athletics committee.

Apart from the Intramural sports team, and Schulympics, the athletic committee runs the Terry Fox run, Cancer Donation Campaign (Breast Cancer awareness and November), March Madness Bracket Challenge and the Battle Sports event alongside the VP of Student Life.

This year, the VP strived to use social media to create awareness of its purpose in the council and the athletic events held. These actions have resulted in creating more of a “buzz” around the campus. The social media initiatives (ex. Cancer Awareness Campaign) helped create awareness among the student body regarding the athletics events held at Schulich.

For the remainder of the year, the committee wants to stay committed to be active on Facebook and Instagram. Also, as a VP, he made efforts to focus on our constituents who are “casual” athletics by involving them through social media initiatives or less intensive events. Furthermore, the VP hopes to continue to keep the intramural defaults down for the remainder of the semester as a way to ensure the Schulich students stay dedicated to their athletic commitments.

SADAF YOUSUFZAI VP MARKETING/IT 2019-2020. HIRED.

The VP of Marketing & IT generates promotional campaigns that aligns with UBS brand image needed to create awareness of the events and initiates through various digital channels. This role serves the needs of our constituents by providing them with information/updates and marketing UBS events that may interest them. The VP is responsible for social media marketing, which involves social media account management (posting graphics, replying to users, increasing follower base), developing and scheduling content, analyzing metrics (website clicks) and improving growth.

Additionally, under this role, the individual handles email marketing to send curated emails to the student body to communicate relevant information to the targeted student body. Additionally,, the VP is expected to manage the website via WordPress and create eye-catching graphs using Adobe Photoshop to deliver important information.

The branding aspect of the council is also the VP’s responsibility including the creation of logo, color palettes, and color palettes, and typeface combinations used.

Furthermore, the VP is also in charge of creating marketing materials as needed for events/projects.

As a support function within the council, the VP assists each respected executive for their portfolio events and projects, such as sponsorship packages for corporate relations teams for the events NOVA and RISE. Next, the marketing promotions on social media for events such as athletic events and Homecoming social night were handled by the VP. Besides this, the VP created the promotional content needed for events such as Club Week and RISE, as well as rebranding the mentorship program. Additionally, in this position, the individual elected ensures the social media pages are active and in sync with the current updates.

This year, as an accomplishment the VP was able to increase the followers on social media (Instagram) by 80% and introduced a new concept of UBS takeover. These concepts are a way to boost event awareness and ticket sales among the student body. New guidelines were proposed and implemented for Schulich Groups under the VP to prevent spam on social media accounts and ensure the clubs posts are done through the club page only. The VP additionally used Instagram to test out the UBS newsletter and update students regularly of the events hosted.

For the remainder of the year, VP aims to focus on increasing the social media presence and performance to ensure the events are targeted to the right audience in the specified timeframe and the result of the promotional initiatives are visible through ticket sales.

THUY TIEN TRAN INTERNATIONAL REPRESENTATIVE 2019-2020. HIRED.

As the Schulich community consists largely of international students, it is imperative that UBS ensures these individuals experience a comfortable transition into university. To accomplish this, the International Representative acts as a liaison between UBS and international students to maintain expectations and establish strategies to best aid this group within Schulich.

The expectations of this role include leading a student committee to represent undergraduate international students and voice their interests, issues, and needs. The Representative links international students with both International Relations and the Open Arms Committee to create opportunities for exchange students. The Representative also helps coordinate orientation for international students and works with International Relations to promote exchange opportunities. The Representative has been able to plan core projects such as a PreOrientation Social, International Orientation, and a Fall-Check-Up.

The International Representative has reached many milestones throughout the course of his role. She integrated the Community Fair with the participation of various banks and allowed Service Canada to aid international students by making bank cards and SIN numbers on campus.

This event was also made open to UBS VPs and upper-year international students in order to speak to newer international students about their own experiences.

Additionally, the workshop series hosted by Student Life Support of York University had introduced topics such as getting involved with clubs, case competitions, networking, available student resources, time management, stress management, achieving academic success, and financial management.

Although the Representative’s accomplishments have transformed the role of the International Representative up to date, there are still many prospects for the remainder of the year.

Promoting Mental Health Week, introducing a Winter Reading Week Check-Up to prepare students for clubs’ executive recruitment, and sharing advice on returning home for the summer will be items on the International Representative’s schedule.

RONI LEVIT & ANANYA KAKKAR SECOND YEAR REPRESENTATIVES (BBA & IBBA) 2019-2020. ELECTED/HIRED.

Schulich’s Second Year Representatives use their position to voice the concerns of both BBA and iBBA students through the establishment of a clear line of communication with Schulich Administration. Not only do they ease the transition for students entering and adapting to their second year, but they also link their constituents to resources and support where possible.

The responsibilities of the Second Year Representatives revolve around being available for help and providing an appropriate figure for second year students to emulate. This includes providing helpful responses to questions and concerns in person or via social media platforms, creating a group chat to connect with incoming students, attending monthly meetings with Schulich Administration to discuss progress and plans for improvement, and completing office hours to engage and build relationships with the Schulich community.

Aside from their ordinary tasks, the iBBA Second Year Representative joins VP of Communications in co-chairing the NOVA Case Competition and Conference and both takes the roles of co-presidents in Schulich’s Mentorship program. With respect to this year’s NOVA, the Second Year Representatives hired an executive committee with which weekly meetings were held, organizing case competition components, logistic management, alumni outreach, ELC dining planning, delegate bag ideation, and scheduling of all volunteers and delegates.

The UBS Mentors and Mentees Program, newly branded as “M&M” has been shifted to the Second Year Representative’s portfolio for the 2019-2020 school year. Through hiring an executive team, holding weekly meetings, creating timelines, planning interactive games and challenges, designing methods for matching mentees to mentors, and hosting several internal events, the Second Year Representatives have effectively stimulated the formation of friendships and eased the transition process for incoming university students. Activities such as the Bucket List Challenge and Kick-Off Event promoted interaction and collaboration amongst M&M members, making it easier for mentors and mentees to meld.

With respect to the remainder of the year, the Second Year Representatives hope to improve engagement on social media with upcoming events such as Networking Night and the End of Year event, as well as upon the launch of the UBS M&M Instagram page.

In addition, they seek to educate students on the importance of mental health, raise awareness about the resources available on campus, and provide a week of self-care activities for students to rest their minds.

Finally, through providing resources such as stationary, snacks, or coupons, the Second Year Representatives hope to establish the UBS office as a community space to encourage students to enter and address their concerns without hesitation.

MOHAMMAD DADA & JESUS BUSTAMANTE FIRST YEAR RESPRESENTATIVES 2019-2020. ELECTED.

First Year Representatives have the responsibility to characterize the entirety of first year Schulich students by effectively voicing their thoughts and concerns. This position helps contribute to the creation of an inclusive and productive environment, where students can feel that they have a role within the community and can help bring about the changes they seek in the Schulich environment.

To ensure that input from first year students can be collected, the Representatives have opened a suggestion box, with which UBS can hold discussions on legitimate concerns voiced by students. One initiative that has been communicated to the representatives what will be implemented is a clean-up event, whereby members of the Schulich community will spend some time outdoors and collect garbage and recyclable items.

To ensure a continuously smooth transition for incoming students, the Representatives have planned to implement various events and activities to lead their constituents to success. The development or improvement of alumni workshops on time management, stress management, and budgeting are effective means of engaging students in an insightful manner. In addition, with the goal of relieving stress, a student-run cooking class will also enhance the remainder of the academic year for first-year students. Finally, through continuous management of the suggestion box and initiatives, as well as befriending first-year students, the Representatives hope to increase engagement amongst their constituents.

The YFS Representative acts as the official liaison between UBS and the York Federations of Students (YFS). The individual is responsible to provide constant communications between UBS and YFS as well as identifying opportunities for UBS utilization of the YFS resources to further benefit the constituents. Within the UBS Executive Council, the Representative acts as a support function through assisting the President in initiatives related to mental health and mental health week and general matters regarding the executive team.

This year, an accomplishment for the YFS Representative was initiating SafeTalk.

Currently, he oversees the process of having all the executives become SafeTalk trained. Additionally, he was successful in having the highest number of Schulich clubs associated with YFS. For the remainder of the year, the Representative would continue to work on providing all the relevant YFS resources available to Schulich clubs and UBS and further define the role of YFS representative within the UBS with more concrete responsibilities and functions for the upcoming year.

MARK ROBINSON SPEAKER 2019-2020. HIRED.

The purpose of the speaker's role within UBS is to ensure all elected members' voices can be heard, as the constituents are better served when the representatives they elect have the opportunity to express their ideas and opinions. This position is a new addition to the council this year. The position was created to ensure a healthy debate is maintained within the council and avoid the President needing to act as an unbiased moderator during meetings, giving the President the ability to voice their own opinions on discussed matters.

In this position, the Speaker is responsible for creating and enforcing UBS meeting agendas and to moderate meetings. He takes care of administrative tasks and facilitates voting during council meetings.

Within the council, he acts as a support function as he strives for efficiency to be maintained in the council through its efforts.

This year, the Speaker wishes to identify ways to have a greater positive impact on the council and the student body and search for new ways to be efficient to the council remains. Additionally, two new events will be put in the Speaker’s portfolio as he will be expected to take responsibility for Dean’s Lunch and UBS meeting with the Dean in the coming future.

SHARMAINE SAYABOC & ELLEN ZHANG JDCC CAPTAINS 2019-2020. HIRED.

JDCC stands for Jeux de Commerce Central. Each year, Schulich sends a team of 48 delegates to compete in the 3-day competition with other business schools in the Central Canada region.

These delegates compete in a variety of categories including: 8 different academic disciplines, debate, social, and athletics. Over the course of the school year, the delegates are training in preparation for this big competition.

JDCC is organized by the Canadian Association of Business Students (CABS) which UBS is a member school of. As a result, Schulich's JDCC team is supported by UBS. This past year, the President, Anika Peng, and the two JDCC Co-Captains, Sharmaine Sayaboc and Ellen Zhang organized specifics in terms of how UBS can work with JDCC to ensure a flow of communication and support was given. The delegation came back with an astounding finish this year in January 2020, breaking Schulich records and coming 3rd for School of the Year.
