Half Term 3 Curriculum Plan Creative writing: Alter Ego’s- Students will explore the characterisation of Alter Ego’s in literature. Students will then produce their own short story.

Creative writing: Gothic- Students will be analysing conventions of gothic fiction through the study of a range of famous extracts. Students will then produce their own gothic short story.

Non-fiction writing: Activism- Students will be exploring the art of rhetoric through famous speeches that relate to past and present world issues. Students will focus on their speech writing skills.

AQA Paper 1 reading: Students will read and practice their analytical and evaluative responses to a range of literature extracts in preparation for the exam.

Eduqas Paper 2 reading: Students will read and practice their analytical, evaluative and comparative responses to two pieces of literary non-fiction from different centuries in preparation for the exam.

The Victorians: This unit focuses on the study of knowledge, understanding, analysis and the context of three poems from the GCSE anthology from the Victorian era.

An Inspector Calls: The unit will look at analysing key themes and characters in preparation for the exam.

Half Term 3 Curriculum Plan Particles: Pure and impure substances, separating mixtures, rock salt, distillation, chromatography, solubility.

Energy: Energy stores and transfers, energy efficiency including calculations, conduction, convection, radiation and insulation, power and energy, energy in the home, renewable and non-renewable energy resources.

Reactions: Neutralisations and titrations.

Digestion and Nutrition: Components of a healthy diet, digestive system structure and function, enzyme functions and effects.

Organisation: The study of the human body including enzymes, digestion, blood, heart structure and function, healthy lifestyle and lung structure and function.

Bioenergetics: The study of plant structures and photosynthesis, the uses of glucose, aerobic and anaerobic respiration and metabolism.

Cells: Structure and function of cells including stem cells and cell division. How substances move in and out of cells to include diffusion, osmosis and active transport.

Structures and Bonding: This unit covers the structure and bonding of ionic, molecular, giant covalent and metallic substances.

Chemical changes: This unit covers reactions of metals, reactions of acids and electrolysis.

Rates of reaction: This unit covers the rate of reactions and the reasons for them.

Using the Earth's resources: Earth's resources and obtaining potable water, life cycle assessment and recycling.

Particle Model of Matter 1: This unit covers the three states of matter and relates it to particle models. Students will undertake calculations of density for solids and liquids.

Particle Model of Matter 2: This unit continues to look at the particle model and how it explains internal energy and latent heat.

Atomic structure: This unit covers the history of atomic models and radioactivity.

Half Term 3 Curriculum Plan Our Island Home: Students will continue to build on their learning by looking at the wider UK community. To start students will explore weather and climate, and how the UK is affected by different weather systems.

Development: This unit will start to build students' knowledge of different ways countries develop, looking at the factors that can prevent development and how countries can be helped. This unit will help students during their Africa topic later in the year.

Rivers: Building on North America where students were introduced to small river systems, they will develop their understanding of how rivers work, including the processes and landforms that are created as they flow.

Weather Hazards: Students to study what weather hazards are, where they affect and how we can mitigate the effects of these hazards, before moving onto climate change.

Coastal Landscapes: Students focus on the processes of coastal systems, including the features as well as the impact to humans, with a case study on Lyme Regis.

Half Term 3 Curriculum Plan Rulers and the Ruled in Medieval England: Students will look at medieval monarchs such as King John and Henry II. Students will assess who held the power in Medieval England and how the Church and monarchy wrestled for power.

How did Britain change for ordinary people between 1750-1900: Students look at the growth of democracy. They will study how ordinary people obtained the vote, and how women were able to obtain the vote in 1918.

How did the legacy of the Great War shape the lives of ordinary Germans? Students will look at how the Treaty of Versailles effected ordinary Germany and how life changed for women under the Weimar Republic.

Medicine Through Time: Students will study the modern period of medicine and the historic environment of the Western Front. They will look at how medical treatments improved during World War 1.

Weimar and Naxi Germany: Students will study the effects of World War 1 on Germany and how Hitler rose to power to become a dictator in charge of a former democratic country.

They will look at how his rule effected the lives of ordinary German citizens.

Half Term 3 Curriculum Plan Christian Beliefs: We are exploring the beliefs of Christianity, looking at the key beliefs that they hold and why? We will then go onto look at questioning and debating these beliefs.

Jewish Beliefs: We are exploring the beliefs of Judaism, looking at the key beliefs that they hold and why? We will then go onto look at questioning and debating these beliefs and whether the laws of Judaism are good or whether they need updating.

Non-Religious Word views: The students are exploring the beliefs and philosophies of nonreligious teachings throughout history, focusing on evolution, humanism, atheism and questioning whether these beliefs are successful in their questioning religion or not.

Marriage and Family: Students are currently looking at the unit of Marriage and Family and debating the changing nature of relationships and marriage. From there they will begin exploring the questions of life and death as part of their GCSE specification.

Living the Muslim Life: Students have been exploring the practices of Muslims worldwide such as the 5 pillars, festivals and Jihad and now will begin to explore Peace and Conflict within Islam as part of their GCSE specification.

Half Term 3 Curriculum Plan School: Students will learn to talk about the school subjects they study and the time at which they have their lessons. Students will use this vocabulary to be able to give opinions about their favourite and worst school subjects, using key opinion phrases. Students will also use the 1st person plural of key verbs to talk about their school day.

Food and Eating Out: Students will learn to give their opinions about different foods and drinks. Students will also learn to say what they eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner, using the key verbs for each meal. Students will also get the chance to learn about traditional Spanish food and drink.

World of work and future aspirations: Students will learn to talk about different jobs in Spanish and what entails for different jobs as well as the qualities needed for different job types. Students will learn to give opinions about jobs, customers and employers.

Mi gente: Theme - identity and culture: Students will look at the use of social media networks and apps and their advantages and disadvantages. Students will look at talking about their free time, making plans using the present continuous tense as well as their reading preferences. Students will also talk about their friends and family using a range of relationship verbs and using the past and present tenses.

A currar: Theme - future aspirations, study and the world of work. Students will learn to discuss different career pathways, explore their plans for the future and talk about gap years.

Students will look at applying for a job in another language and consider why learning a second language could be advantageous in the workplace.

Half Term 3 Curriculum Plan Gaining support for a cause: Students will look at features or software, copyright rules of images, develop skills to judge credibility of sources when researching a topic. Using all these skills they will create a blog to promote a cause.

Programming: Students will develop programming skills of sequencing, selection, using operators, iteration and use problem solving skills using Scratch programming software.

Data Science: Students will develop methods to visualise data, they will examine global data sets and use an investigative cycle to analyse data sets and solve problems.

Reading and Creating Algorithms: Students will develop their computational thinking skills by developing areas of abstraction, decomposition and pattern recognition. They will have opportunities to read and write algorithms for a wide range of problems.

Algorithms and Systems Software: Students will have an opportunity to practice common search and sort algorithms and improve problem solving skills in creating algorithms. They will also look at common application and utility software.

Half Term 3 Curriculum Plan Media Experimentation: Students will be looking at animals' eyes and exploring the various types of media available in the art world.

Printing: Students will be looking at printing and how to repeat a pattern using poly block.

They will also look at backgrounds and how to create them before starting to print.

Landscapes: Students will be looking at the different levels and stages we paint landscapes with.

Steampunk Bugs: Students will be taking the skills we learnt in our line lessons in term 1 and put them to good use by creating steampunk bug artwork. They will be linking this work back to the classic Victorian period and the steampunk wave.

Responses: Students will start to look at responses and creating work that links directly to their titles. Students will have the freedom to choose if they would like to paint, draw or sculpt their ideas and then throughout the term they will be looking at refining their ideas.

Half Term 3 Curriculum Plan Storytelling: Students will explore the art of storytelling. They will develop an understanding of different ways in which stories are told and the skills needed to tell them. Students will then get the opportunity to tell a story either one of their own or a popular children's story.

Greek Theatre: Students will learn about Greek theatre, looking at the history of it and all the different elements of Greek theatre e.g. genre of plays, the chorus and masks. Students will be able to develop their knowledge of this type of theatre.

Design Concepts & Practitioners: Students will develop their design ideas in a few areas based on the recent script they have just explored. They will create costume, set and lighting designs based own their own ideas from what they have learnt about the play ASBO. Students will also learn about two Drama Practitioners, Stanislavski and Brecht, exploring the techniques that they use in their styles of theatre.

Half Term 3 Curriculum Plan Food provenance: Students will be developing their knowledge of nutritional needs of different age groups. They will carry out a nutritional analysis of a meal, focusing on areas from the Eat Well Guide. They will learn about food provenance, namely different types of potatoes and varieties of fruit. Students will also learn about the importance of food safety, including temperature control and where bacteria come from. Finally, the students will explore the different types of heat transfer and when caramelisation occurs.

Eatwell Guide: Students will be using the contents of the Eatwell plate to incorporate the important message of eating your 5 a day. They will be investigating the main differences between micronutrients and macronutrients, and the importance of eating a diet that contains both components. They will be working out how much food is needed to enable them to have the appropriate energy balance and finally why eating plenty of dietary fibre will lead to a happy and healthy life.

All about Eggs: Students will be investigating the nutritional value of eggs, identifying the range of vitamin & minerals that can be found in them. They will be stating the advantages and disadvantages of caged verses intensive rearing to help them develop an awareness of food choice. Students will be able to research the importance of food hygiene when storing and using eggs in order to keep themselves save.

Food preservation & manufacturing: Students will be developing their knowledge of how to keep food for longer by preserving it. They will be able to explore new sustainable food sources linking in the importance of food provenance. Students will be researching British cuisine and how this is different from other international foods.

Dietary needs & GM foods: Students will be designing menus to meet the needs of different age groups. They will be looking at the effects of genetically modified foods and how these could impact on Nutrional needs. Students will also explore the scientifical properties of the different food groups, including fats, carbohydrates & proteins.

Half Term 3 Curriculum Plan Basics of the Camera: Students will be looking closely at ISO, Aperture and Shutter Speed.

They will be deciding which ones they like editing the most to use and then taking their own pictures using the information they have taken from the lessons.

Responses: Students will be looking back at the work they have done throughout Year 10 and 11 and creating personal responses to an artist or a style of their choice.
