Half Term 4 Curriculum Plan Short stories: Students will read a range of short stories and extracts from the detective genre to deepen their understanding of the structure and conventions of this form of writing. Animal Farm: Students will study this classic novella to develop their analytical reading skills and to practice their response to a whole text. Of Mice and Men: Students will analyse the characters and themes in this class reader. They will develop their skills in responding and analysing extracts and linking it to the wider text and context. Non-fiction writing: Students will revise and practice the conventions of transactional writing; revise their spelling, punctuation and grammar; and developing an understanding of how these forms can be used to appropriately communicate to an audience. Narrative writing: Students will revise the conventions of a short story; and refine their spelling punctuation and grammar in line with the GCSE English Language criteria. Unseen Poetry: Students will analyse and compare the themes, language and structure of a collection of previously unstudied poems from different centuries. An Inspector Calls: Students will continue the study of this 20th century play. Students will gain knowledge and understanding of the characters and themes; be able to comment on the stylistic choices made by the playwright; as well as develop their skills in analysis in line with the GCSE English Literature criteria.

Students will be extending their knowledge from KS3 and applying them to more complex problems. Foundation topics: Area, Perimeter, Volume and Surface Area, Circles, Sequences and Pythagoras and Trigonometry. Students will be using visual representations and physical resources to gain a deeper understanding of these topics. Higher topics: Area, Perimeter, Volume and Surface Area, Circles, Sequences and Pythagoras and Trigonometry. Students will be using visual representations and physical resources to gain a deeper understanding of these topics. Foundation topics: Ratio and Basic Proportion, Perimeter, Area and Volume, Probability and Sequences in preparation for the exam. Higher topics: Trigonometry, Further trigonometry, Direct / Inverse Proportion and Complex Ratio problems in preparation for the exam. Half Term 4 Curriculum Plan Energy Continued: Students will study energy stores and transfers, energy efficiency including calculations. Conduction, convection, radiation and insulation, power and energy, energy in the home. Renewable and non-renewable energy resources Digestion and Nutrition continued: Students will study components of a healthy diet, digestive system structure and function, enzyme functions and effects.
