Half Term 4 Curriculum Plan Short stories: Students will read a range of short stories and extracts from the detective genre to deepen their understanding of the structure and conventions of this form of writing.

Animal Farm: Students will study this classic novella to develop their analytical reading skills and to practice their response to a whole text.

Of Mice and Men: Students will analyse the characters and themes in this class reader. They will develop their skills in responding and analysing extracts and linking it to the wider text and context.

Non-fiction writing: Students will revise and practice the conventions of transactional writing; revise their spelling, punctuation and grammar; and developing an understanding of how these forms can be used to appropriately communicate to an audience.

Narrative writing: Students will revise the conventions of a short story; and refine their spelling punctuation and grammar in line with the GCSE English Language criteria.

Unseen Poetry: Students will analyse and compare the themes, language and structure of a collection of previously unstudied poems from different centuries.

An Inspector Calls: Students will continue the study of this 20th century play. Students will gain knowledge and understanding of the characters and themes; be able to comment on the stylistic choices made by the playwright; as well as develop their skills in analysis in line with the GCSE English Literature criteria.

Half Term 4 Curriculum Plan Energy Continued: Students will study energy stores and transfers, energy efficiency including calculations. Conduction, convection, radiation and insulation, power and energy, energy in the home. Renewable and non-renewable energy resources Digestion and Nutrition continued: Students will study components of a healthy diet, digestive system structure and function, enzyme functions and effects.

Forces and Motion: Contact and non-contact forces. Resultant forces, gravity. Weight and pressure.

Organisation continued: Students will study systems of the human body including enzymes, digestion, blood, heart structure and function, healthy lifestyle and lung structure and function.

Bioenergetics continued: Students will study aerobic and anaerobic respiration and metabolism. Maths skills in Biology are also covered.

Ecology: Students will go on to looking at how organisms interact, adaptations, sampling, carbon and water cycles. Global warming and the impact of humans complete this module.

Cells: Students will study osmosis and active transport. The cell cycle and mitosis, stem cells and their uses. Maths skills in Biology are also covered.

Organisation: Students will go on to study the digestive system of humans including enzyme action and the enzymes involved in digestion.

Introduction to Quantitative Chemistry: Students will complete calculations on relative mass, conservation of mass and the concentration of solutions.

Energy Changes: Students will study exothermic and endothermic reactions, reaction profiles for chemical reactions and will work scientifically to plan required practicals. Then they will be introduced to rates of reactions - this topic starts with measuring the rate of reaction calculations.

Using Resources: Students will study Earth's resources, obtaining potable water. Life cycle assessment and recycling.

Electricity in the home: Students will study direct and alternating current, mains electricity, power and the National Grid.

Forces in balance: Students will study vectors and scalars, resultant forces and centre of mass.

Atomic structure: Students will study decay equations, half–life and uses and hazards of nuclear radiation.

Half Term 4 Curriculum Plan Our Island Home: Students will begin to develop their understanding of challenges faced in urban environments while starting to broaden their geographic scale knowledge.

Amazing Asia: Students will begin by exploring the amazing geography of the middle east with a focus on Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Yemen. Here they will develop the skills from previous topics before moving onto the Asian Powerhouse that is China.

Ecosystems: Students will explore the living and non-living elements of small- and large-scale ecosystems with a focus on the River Nile, Democratic Republic of Congo and Kenya. Here they look to apply the knowledge from previous topics and explain how different geographic systems work together.

Climate Change: Students will begin their final subtopic of the Challenge of Natural Hazards by exploring the theory of climate change. They will look at evidence for climate change, the causes of climate change, and what can be done to stop its devastating effects.

The Living World: Students will revisit aspects of the living world unit, looking at small- and large-scale ecosystems and how they interact with the wider world around them. As well as developing their knowledge into the impacts humans have on global ecosystems such as the amazon rainforest.

Half Term 4 Curriculum Plan Muck and Misery-Was life for ordinary people always hideous in the Medieval period?

Students will examine the life of peasants in Medieval England, how did they live and why were they unhappy with their situation. Students will focus on key events such as the Black Death and the Peasants Revolt.

Why did ordinary people need the vote in 1800? Students will examine the steps which lead to ordinary men and women obtaining the right to vote in 1918. They will look at the key events of Peterloo, the Great Reform Act and the Suffragettes.

How did the legacy of the Great War shape the lives of ordinary people? Students will look at how life changed for ordinary people in the three countries of Britain, America and Germany.

They will judge how ‘roaring’ the 1920’s were by looking at the impact the Great War had on minority groups such as Black people, women and Jewish residents of all three countries.

Medicine on the Western Front: Students will examine the conditions on the Western Front and will assess how medicine developed during the war. This part of the course develops students use of historical sources and develops their understanding of historical enquiries.

Weimar and Naxi Germany: Students will study the effects of World War 1 on Germany and how Hitler rose to power to become a dictator in charge of a former democratic country. They will look at how his rule effected the lives of ordinary German citizens.

Half Term 4 Curriculum Plan Christian beliefs: Year 7 students are continuing to explore the key beliefs of Christianity and explore how these impact on the life of Christians.

Non-Religious World Views: Year 8 will begin to look at non-religious views about the origin of the universe, on the origin and use of religion and non-religious methods of making moral decisions.

Non-Religious World Views: Year 9 are continuing the non-religious world views module. They will start to explore the benefits of Utilitarianism and Kantian Ethics and debate whether morality is relative or absolute.

Living the Christian Life: Year 10 are continuing their GCSE course by exploring how Christians practice their faith exploring the topics of responding to persecution and worship and festival.

Peace and Conflict: Year 11 are continuing to explore the topic of Peace and Conflict within Islam as part of their GCSE course focusing on Islam’s response to war, terrorism and nuclear weapons.

Half Term 4 Curriculum Plan School: Students will continue to study the topic of school, focusing more on the language surrounding the topic, focusing on a greater use of time phrases and sequencing vocabulary, as well as a greater use of opinions and reasons, using a variety of adjectives.

Food and Eating out: Students will continue with the topic of food and eating out, learning how to use the language learnt in real-life situations. Students will look at how to order different food at restaurants as well as how to complain about problems during meals at a restaurant. Students will also be able to talk about quantities of food, developing their use of numbers over 100.

World of work and Future aspirations: Students will continue the topic of jobs, developing the language they have learnt to talk about what jobs they would like to do in the future and why.

There will be a greater focus of using the immediate future tense to talk about future plans including going to university and travelling. Furthermore, students will learn to talk about clothes, describing what they wear and what they would wear for different jobs, with an emphasis on demonstrative pronouns and adjectives.

Module 7 Work: Theme – Future Aspirations, Study and Work: Students will consolidate learning on the topic of jobs and work. They will also develop understanding of how to talk about gap years and future plans.

Module 8 Creating a Better World: Theme – International and Global Dimension: Students will learn to discuss the environment and a range of global issues, such as healthy lifestyles, local actions and natural disasters.

Half Term 4 Curriculum Plan Coding: Students will develop an understanding of sequencing and iteration in programming.

They will use computational thinking skills to code solutions to problems and debug existing solutions, using the code.org platform.

Ethical, legal, cultural and environmental impacts of digital technology: Students will study different computing legislation and their impact, evaluate the difference between open source and proprietary software and explore the positive and negative impact technology has on the environment, culture and our everyday lives.

Systems Security: Students will look at the threats to computer systems including different types of malware and spyware, SQL injection and DDOS, data interception and social engineering techniques. The methods to identify and prevent these vulnerabilities will also be explored.

Half Term 4 Curriculum Plan Op Art vs Pop Art: Students will look at the difference between Op Art’s basic black and white imagery vs Pop art’s colourful and powerful symbolic work.

Colour: Students will be looking at the blending of colours and creating an animal silhouette.

Surrealism: Students will aim to create a surreal final piece. We will look at the work of Magritte and Escher and then create responses to both of their work.

Formal Elements of Art: After studying Line, Texture and Colour; the Year 10 students will create a final piece of art for each category showing their skills in all areas. These will all be accessible from home.

Final Design: Year 11 students will continue to develop their final idea and show refinement with media and composition. They will be expected to have a rough draft before the Easter holidays.

Half Term 4 Curriculum Plan Peter Pan: Students will be exploring the live production of the National Theatres Peter Pan. They will look at the design elements in the production, characterisation and understanding skills as a performer and designer in a production Creating a stage performance of a Disney film: Students will look at a variety of Disney films and will choose one that they will use to create a stage performance. Students will learn about different design concepts and create their own designs based on their chosen film. Students will also write their own scripts and create characters devised from a Disney film.

Working as a professional: Students will be exploring the different roles within the theatre looking at what they do and how they contribute to the theatre. Students will then choose one area to develop and create a portfolio of ideas as if they were putting on a show as their chosen role.

Commedia Dell Arte: Students will understand all about this 16th century art form exploring characters, looking at the masks worn, understanding lazzis, looking at how modern-day performances were influenced by Commedia Dell Arte and students will watch some scenes from The National Theatres One man two Governors and evaluate how it is influenced by Commedia and be able to recognise the conventions within the production.

Half Term 4 Curriculum Plan Menu ideas from The British Isles: Students will be able to investigate foods from the different parts of the UK. They will identify different traditional foods from England. Special foods from Scotland, Old fashioned foods from Wales, customary foods from Ireland and regional cuisine from Lancashire.

Foods from across the world: Students will be able to investigate foods from around The World, identifying which foods traditionally come from different countries across the globe.

Chicken & Poultry: Students will be able to investigate the difference between free range and intensive farming. They will be able to identify different parts of a chicken and dishes that could be produced using different poultry.

Practical skills: Students will be able to recap on practical skills needed within the kitchen, focusing on different types of equipment, shaping and forming meat, binding and coating methods and the different types of pastry that can be used within specific dishes.

Food commodities: Students will be able to look at the wide range of commodities using within the food industry. This will include bead making, rice & pasta, fruit & vegetables, milk & cheese and Meat & fish.

They will outline the different factors, types of injury, how to treat injuries and medical conditions.

Fitness workout circuits Students will also undertake revision of the key topics split up into various lessons, focusing on all the content from Year 10 and 11. A key focus will be on recall of information, creation of revision resources and completion of exam style questions.

Half Term 4 Curriculum Plan Lockdown: Students will continue to look at the understanding of lockdown on a photographic platform. They will look at how existing practitioners are using photos to capture the effects Lockdown and Covid are having on the world and the economy.

Final Photos for exhibition: Students will have this half term to select their favourite twenty photos and receive feedback on them. They have been given many titles throughout the twoyear course; they are now to choose their favourites and tailor their PowerPoint presentations (portfolios) to showing that they have refined their ideas and linked to existing artists.
