Half Term 1 Curriculum Plan ‘A Perfect world’- Students will be exploring famous speeches relating to world issues with a focus on speech writing skills.

Romeo and Juliet- A study of the characters, themes and conventions in Shakespeare’s famous tragedy.

Rhymes over time- Students study different forms of poetry from 1500’s to the modern day whilst developing their skills in analysis and comparison.

The Romantics – This unit focuses on the study of knowledge, understanding, analysis and the context of five poems from the GCSE anthology from the Romantic era.

Macbeth - The unit will look at analysing key themes and characters in preparation for the exam.

Half Term 1 Curriculum Plan This half term will focus on exploring: Sequences, Algebraic Notation and Equality and Equivalence. Students will be using visual representations and physical resources to show how patterns are formed in numbers and how we can find missing values using inverse operations.

This half term will focus on exploring: Ratio and Scale, Multiplicative change and Multiplying and Dividing Fractions. Students will be using visual representations and physical resources to develop a deeper understanding of ratio, conversion and currencies.

This half term will focus on working with Number and Algebra. Students will be extending their knowledge from KS3 and applying them to more complex problems.

Foundation: This half term will focus on: Equations and Inequalities and Angles. Students will be using visual representations and physical resources to develop a deeper understanding of angles and will use inverse operations to find unknown variables.

Higher: This half term will focus on: Pythagoras and Trigonometry and Proportion. Students will be using visual representations and physical resources to investigate patterns in proportion and the use of Pythagoras and Trigonometry in real life contexts.

Foundation: This half term will focus on revising Number and Algebra skills in preparation for the exam.

Higher: This half term will focus on revising Surds and Half Term 1 Curriculum Plan Cells and Organisms – This unit will focus on how the body is organised from cells to organ systems and how these interact and work together.

Inheritance – The unit will focus on evolution and adaptation and the reasons for variation within a species Matter 2 – This unit will focus on different elements and how they react together.

Cells – This unit will look at different cells how substances move around and how cells reproduce.

Disease – This unit will look at microbes and disease and how the body defends itself and treatment we can use and how vaccines and drugs are developed.

Inheritance –This unit will look at how we inherit our characteristics, some genetic disorders and the theories of evolution and classification.

Atomic Structure and the periodic table – This unit will focus on the structure and history of the atom and the development of the periodic table.

Atomic Structure 2- This unit will focus on elements and their relative atomic mass. It will also focus on how compounds can be displayed and how to work out the relative formula mass of its formula.

Chemical Analysis- This unit looks at what purity means and how you can identify if a substance is pure or a mixture.

Organic Chemistry – this unit will Focus on the study of compounds containing carbon.

Energy – This unit will look at the different energy stores and systems and how energy is transferred.

Energy 2 – This unit will look at gravitational potential energy and kinetic energy conversions and the method and formula to calculate specific heat capacity of a material.

Forces – This unit will look at forces, how to calculate resultant forces and how force and extension are related to each other using Hooke’s Law. Half Term 1 Curriculum Plan Our Local Area – Investigating the geography of our local area with a focus on geographical information systems.

Outstanding Oceans and Coasts – Investigating the processes of the oceans and coasts and the issues surrounding them.

Natural Hazards- Investigating the different hazards around the globe with a focus on earthquakes and how we can manage them.

The Changing Economic World – To understand the different development rates of countries across the globe and to investigate how we can close the gap. A focus on Nigeria and the UK River Landscapes - To understand the processes, landforms and risks involved in river landscapes with a focus on the Somerset Levels flooding.

Half Term 1 Curriculum Plan Introduction to History-How do we carry out historical enquiries? Students research Roman Britain with a focus on the local area. Students carry out a mock archaeological dig and produce a theory of what happened.

How did Britain become a democracy? - Students look at the rollercoaster of the British monarchy and trace the development of democracy to its present form today.

How did World War effect the lives of ordinary people? Students investigate the impact of world war 1, from the recruitment of local soldiers to life in the trenches. They will look at how world war 1 was a major turning point in the lives of twentieth century Britons.

Medicine through time – Students trace developments in medicine from the Medieval and Renaissance periods to modern day. They focus on what people thought caused disease, how it was treated and how it was prevented.

Elizabethan England-Students look at one of England most celebrated monarchs. How was she able to reign against the odds and lead England through what became known as a golden age.
