Waterside Primary After school Enrichment

2023 - 2024

At Waterside we aim to provide after school enrichment opportunities that enhance pupils curriculum and develop their interests. This booklet provides an overview of all clubs throughout the year to allow you and your children to make an informed choice for the clubs you wish to attend.

All Year

The following clubs will take place all year. Some will be offered to all year groups and some will change to other year groups to allow all children to opportunity to take part in them.

Singing Superstars – Autumn, Spring & Summer Yrs 1-6

Singing Superstars will provide opportunities to take part in city wide choral events, notably, Sing up and Young Voices. These events have been very popular in the past and give us as a school the chance to showcase the wonderful talent we have at Waterside!

STEM – Autumn Yr 5,6 Spring Yr 3,4 Summer Yr 1/2

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.. Every week there will be a different activity linked to the topics above. A great opportunity for all our budding scientists, mathematicians and engineers!

Drama & theatre skills – Autumn Yr 1,2

Spring Yr 3,4 Summer Yr 5,6

Children will have the opportunity to sing, dance and act leading to a final onstage performance.

Forest school – Autumn Yr 2,3,4 Spring Yr4,5,6 Summer Yr R, 1, 2 Forest School is an excellent opportunity to provide hands-on experiences in the natural environment. We are very lucky to have our very own fully trained Forest School leader, Miss Barker, who has a wealth of knowledge to share.

Photography – Autumn Yr 4,5,6 Spring Yr 1,2,3 Summer Yr 4,5,6 Photography club will teach the children how to take and recognise great photos and explore their creativity in all enviroments.

Funky fingers – Autumn, Spring and Summer terms Reception Yr1, 2 Children will develop their fine motor skills using a variety of activities, including playdough, singing and lots more!

Board games and puzzles – Autumn Yr 5,6 Spring R, Yr1, 2 Fun! Fun! Fun! from connect 4 to twister and beyond. With a wide range of board games and puzzles this is a lovely way to work on problem solving and social skills.

Arts and Crafts – Autumn R Yr1,2 Spring Yr

3,4,5 Summer R Yr 5,6

We have some very talented budding artists amongst our children at Waterside and this club will enable them to practice and develop their art skills leading to a final masterpiece.

Arabic – Autumn, Spring and Summer terms Yrs 3,4 combined and Yrs 5,6 combined

Children will receive introductory lessons to speaking, reading and writing Arabic!

Termly

The following clubs will take place in specific terms (Autumn, Spring, Summer)

Rhythm and Rhyme – Autumn & Spring Reception class

Rhythm and Rhyme is a musical adventure! Each week the children will enjoy singing, dancing and playing instruments – it is sure to be lots of fun. These sessions help with language and communication skills, physical development and personal and social development.

Construction – Autumn term Reception, Yr1

This is one for all our budding engineers! It will help children make sense of the world and their surroundings, develop problem solving skills and also aid fine motor skills.

Creative writing – Autumn term only yr 3,4

A great chance for our children to use their amazing imaginations and explore the wonderful world of creative writing. This will also help in class learning across the curriculum.

Gardening – Summer term only Yr 3,4,5

Calling all our green fingered friends. Help us to make our school environment a lot more colourful! Another chance to learn more about our natural environment and the different types of plants we are able to grow in the UK.

Bee Active provide our Physical Education lessons at Waterside and are fully committed to our children’s physical and mental wellbeing. Their after-school clubs are all well attended and thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Multi skills – Yr 1, 2 Monday

Dance – Yr 4, 5 and 6 Tuesday

Multi skills – Reception Wednesday

Kwick Cricket – Yr 3, 4 Thursday

Football (mixed) – Yr 5, 6 Friday

Bee active clubs will change in the Spring and Summer terms

Spring – Kwick cricket will be replaced by cross country

Summer – Football will be replace by rounders

Additional Information

All our enrichment clubs are very well attended and have a limited number of places per year group (excluding Singing Superstars.) Places will be allocated on a “first come, first served” basis. Children may therefore receive a place in their second choice club.

However we will endeavour to try our very best to always provide first choice options. We thank you in advance for your understanding in this matter.

All clubs will finish at 4:20 PM We respectfully ask that you are prompt when collecting your child/children.
