The UCAS Merseyside Higher Education Convention 2014
LIVERPOOL HOPE UNIVERSITY OPEN DAYS: WEDNESDAY 25th JUNE SATURDAY 5th JULY
YOUR FUTURE STARTS WITH HOPE 0151 291 3111 hope.ac.uk
At the University of Liverpool 11th and 12th June 2014 Opening Times: 09:30 - 14:00
To make the most of this Convention please read this programme carefully. Additional information is available at either www.ucasevents.com or www.connexionslive.com
The Convention has two main parts:
(1) There is a ‘Marketplace’ where representatives from over 140 universities and colleges of higher education and graduate employers will be situated. They will be available for you to ask them questions. Please use the opportunity to talk to representatives and not just take prospectuses. There are some suggested questions which you might ask on the website,
About this Convention
https://www.ucasevents.com/ucas/frontend/reg/tOtherPage.csp?pageID=548876 &eventID=1161&eventID=1161
The Merseyside UCAS Higher Education Convention at the University of Liverpool on 11/12 June 2014 is for anyone thinking of making an application to university in 2015.
(2) The second part of the Convention is a series of presentations on a wide range of subjects studied in higher education. The speakers have been asked to make their talk relevant to their subject in all higher education institutions. The presentations will last about forty minutes. Please note that attendance at these talks is on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.
Your educational institution gives you the day off to attend the Convention as they know it can help you to research your choice of courses and universities. Attending higher education costs money, so making the right choice of course and institution is more important than ever. Making the wrong choice can be very costly. The Convention is to help you make sure you make the right choice for you.
If you arrive at the Convention before 9.30 and wish to attend a talk starting at 9.30 or 10.30 we recommend you go straight to that talk and return to the Marketplace later in the day.
We hope you find the Convention both useful and enjoyable.
We also must ensure that you are safe. To do this we are:
Car parking for visitors at the university is not free and is very limited. Please use public transport or the transport provided by your school/college to attend the Convention.
• Making entry to the Marketplace part of the Convention (where all the stands are) in the Marquees on Abercromby Square Gardens on production of this programme. • Asking you to follow the one-way system that will be operating in the Marketplace and to follow the directions of the stewards. • Restricting entry to the marquees if they become too crowded. If they do you may be asked to wait outside for a few minutes until the crowd disperses. Please be patient. • Note that the Marketplace tends to be busiest at around 9.30am. It is usually much quieter towards lunchtime. So, if you wish to talk to delegates from universities at any length, you may get a better chance later in the day. So if you want to go to a talk that starts at 9.30 or 10.30 we recommend you go straight to the talk(s) before entering the Marketplace later in the day. • Asking you to be choosy in the prospectuses you take. Remember prospectuses can get heavy. Please do not just grab a prospectus; speak to the university’s representative if you are interested in going there. If you do collect a prospectus you then decide you don’t really want, please don’t litter. • Asking you to pay careful attention to any announcements on the public address (PA) system. The Convention is a non-smoking event.
Please note that the Marketplace, where the university stands are situated, in the Marquees on Abercromby Square Gardens is open from 9.30am until 2.00pm. You can come and go from the Marketplace as many times as you want during this period. You do not have to enter the Marketplace before going to any of the talks, and you can enter the Marketplace before, after, or instead of going to any of the talks. You will only be prevented from entering the Marketplace during these hours if it is in danger of overcrowding.
The event is one of a national network of Higher Education Conventions held throughout the U.K. each year co-ordinated by UCAS Education Conventions; supported by the Higher Education Liaison Officers Association (HELOA). The organisation and administration of the event is carried out by GMCP/Career Connect. We would like to thank UCAS and HELOA for their support and the Vice Chancellor and staff of the University of Liverpool for their help and hospitality. We would also like to thank the speakers, representatives, chair-people, stewards and student helpers and for giving their time so willingly.
