Information for people taking part
Who are we?
• We are Shaping Futures, a project that works with the universities and colleges across the Liverpool City Region to help young and adult learners to make an informed choice about their options after year 11 and beyond.
What is happening? Why?
• You are being asked to complete a survey about how you find school, what you are planning to do next and your thoughts about Higher Education.
• We’re trying to figure out what activities work best for young people in Merseyside learning about their options.
How does this help?
• Over the next year, people in your school are going to have some activities from us.
• We’re going to look at what you think now, and compare it to what you think this time next year to see if there has been any changes.
• Depending on what changes there has or hasn’t been, we will adapt our activities to make sure we’re giving you and future students the information you need.

• You are playing an important part in finding out about the best ways to help young people like you
• We can’t promise that this research will help you directly, but your answers will help us improve activities that could benefit others just like you in the future.
What will happen to the information I provide?
• All information we collect is stored in a secure file at the University of Liverpool, and on the Higher Education Access Tracker. It is stored in the UK. All information processed is under the legal basis of public task.
• We store your activity attendance data for 10 years, and your personalised survey results will be stored until 1 year after the end of our project –currently July 2026.
• We will analyse your responses, and those of other students and give your school a report of what you all said. We will also put a report with combined responses from other schools on our website.
• All reports we publish online will not have any identifying information available. Any reports your school receives will not show your specific responses. However, we may give your school a list of students who need extra careers support based on your answers.
