Artistic Photography Curriculum Map
Intent Photography is defined as the practice of producing images using light-sensitive materials such as photographic film, hand manipulation of images and digital methods of development and production. The course aims to continue developing existing artistic thinking, introduce new skills whilst working towards achieving outcomes that provoke reaction and admiration. The formal elements in art, line, tone, form, colour & texture underpin all learning in art and design. Students are encouraged to record their ideas in a variety of forms using a different experimental media.. Sketchbook exploration is key to a student’s success and they are encouraged and supported in developing pride in their work and their presentation. Students explore a variety of artists and photographers from different periods of time and different cultural influences and are encouraged to evaluate how photography has changed over time and how different art forms lead to different career pathways.

Across the 2 year course pupils will continue to learn new skills and techniques and well and embed knowledge and skills from prior KS3 learning. The course will allow students to make informed decisions about their own creative practice in a culture of experimentation, exploration and critical reflection and they are encouraged and supported to be independent thinkers. Students will continue to explore a range of artists and techniques across 2 portfolio projects in year 10. Each project is underpinned by visual research, exploration of media and development of key ideas in response to artists through to a creative independent outcome.
