Half Term 1 Curriculum Plan Creative writing - How to write effective speeches. Students will be studying a range of famous speeches, in order to write, re-draft and perform their own speech around the theme of ‘A Perfect World’ Multicultural Poetry - Students will be studying a range of poems, exploring the theme of different cultures throughout the world. They will learn how to read, understand, compare and respond to the poems they have read. Rhymes Through Time - Students will be studying a range of poems, exploring how poetry has developed through different eras of time. They will learn about form, structure, language and context of poetry, alongside developing their written responses. Romeo and Juliet - Students will be studying the entire play of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet with a focus on plot, characters, theme and writer’s methods. Narrative and Descriptive Writing - Students will be developing their creative writing skills through narrative writing and writing to describe. They will also focus on spelling, punctuation and grammar skills needed to support their work. Macbeth - Students will be revising and consolidating their knowledge of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth. They will focus on building their response to key extracts and planning for essay questions. Transactional Writing - Students will consolidate their knowledge of creating non-fiction texts. This will include writing their own: letter, article, speech, report, guide and review. They will also focus on spelling, punctuation and grammar skills needed to support their work. Half Term 1 Curriculum Plan Sequences - Describe and continue both linear and non-linear sequences Understand and use algebraic notation - Develop a deeper understanding of the basic algebraic forms Equality and Equivalence - Forming and solving one-step linear equations Ratio and Scale - Exploring links between fractions and ratios. Simplifying and sharing into a given ratio. Multiplicative change - Solving problems involving proportion. Using scale factors to draw and interpret scale diagrams. Multiplying and dividing fractions - deepening the students understanding of calculating with fractions. Foundation Introduction to Number - Using proficient methods for 4 operations, estimation and HCF and LCM Introduction to Algebra - Efficiently manipulating algebraic expressions Higher Introduction to Number - Estimation, rules of indices and standard form Introduction to Algebra - Efficiently manipulating algebraic expressions including quadratic expressions and proofs Foundation Probability - Work out probability of events, using a variety of methods including probability trees and frequency trees Perimeter, area and volume - Build on and apply previous knowledge to develop understanding of surface area and volume. Sequences - Develop an understanding of rules of sequences leading to an understanding of the nth term. Higher Fractions, percentage and ratio - Build on previous knowledge to solve problems involving a mixture of fractions, percentages and ratios Angles - Apply angle rules within parallel lines and interior and exterior angles
