Half Term 2 Curriculum Plan
Year 7
Animal Poetry - Students will study a range of poetry around the theme of animals and wildlife. Students will be able to analyse poetic devices and carefully consider word choices of a writer.
Year 8
Through the eyes of the media - Students will develop their reading skills of non-fiction, focusing on persuasive language devices used in advertising, from the 19th century to modern day.
Year 9
Activism - Students will learn about the writing of non-fiction texts through the theme of Activism. This will include writing their own: letter, article, speech, report, guide and review.
Year 10 Literature
A Christmas Carol - Students will be studying the entire novella of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol with a focus on plot, characters, theme and writer’s methods.
Year 10 Language
Transactional Writing - Students will consolidate their knowledge of creating non-fiction texts. This will include writing their own: letter, article, speech, report, guide and review. They will also focus on spelling, punctuation and grammar skills needed to support their work.
Year 11 Literature
An Inspector Calls - Students will be revising and consolidating their knowledge of J.B Priestley’s An Inspector Calls. They will focus on building their responses around key characters and themes.
Year 11 Language
Non-Fiction Comprehension- Pre 19 Century and 21 Century Comparison - Students will engage with a variety of different reading skills including: select and retrieve, inference, give opinion, synthesis, evaluate, compare.

Exploring the properties of integers up to one billion and decimals to hundredths. Using students' knowledge of place value to correctly order and compare values using inequalities. Fraction, decimal and percentage equivalence Convert fluently between fractions, decimals and percentages. Be able to use multiple representations for fractions. Year 8
Working in the Cartesian place Plot coordinates in all four quadrants. Use prior knowledge to make connections between sequences and linear graphs, looking at plotting linear sequences on a cartesian plane. Collecting and representing data Use and interpret scatter graphs understanding correlation and lines of best fit. Read and interpret data given in tabular form. Tables and probability Construct and use sample space diagrams, two-way tables and venn diagrams to calculate probabilities.
