Heyhouses News V.E.DAY Celebrated! On Tuesday the 8th of May, the Year 5’s shared their hard work from the classroom to the hall, where they performed an assembly to mums, dads, grandparents and friends. It was an exciting performance that shared new information to everyone.

Heyhouses C.E.Endowed Primary School Spring Term Week 10

They showed the audience their banners of material that had been decorated to show different aspects of the Second World War such as: The Blitz, Hitler, Rationing, Make Do and Mend, Evacuation and The Battlefield. They had worked extremely hard to make them look good, they were very detailed and Year 5 had thought hard about what story they wanted to show through their banners.

They also decided to show two of their different extracts from “Carrie’s War” that they had worked on in drama. 5D performed the part of the story when the children first got evacuated. There were some comedy elements that made everyone smile. 5E performed the choosing of the children once they had come to their final destination, it was very realistic. The Year 5’s explained all about World War 2 and how, many people had to cope with it. They described what it would be like when an air raid siren went off which made a few people jump2 Thank You Mrs.Owen!!! They had small presentations of things like weapons, evacuation, Hitler and many other areas of war.

At the end we all saw the fabulous hats that Year 5 had made, there were cake based ones, their were fact based ones, Flags, Army hats, V.E Day ones and they were all marvellous! We all finished with a good old sing-song of the old war time favorites; We’ll Meet Again, Run Rabbit, and we finished right at the end with the great song2”God Save The Queen” we all stood in pride and remembered those who lost their lives for our nation. Overall it was a fantastic play that all who watched enjoyed greatly we would like to say “Well done” to Year 5 and a very big “Thank You!” to Mrs.Dugdale and Mrs.England!!! Reporter Izzy Durose 6A

For new parents the annual ‘Charter Assemblies’ are very special occasions when we celebrate the work each class has done as part of their Charter Award. The children explain all they have worked on, the class tasks and the ‘extra’ work they have done during the year. The children are then presented with their certificates. Faith Awards are also presented to those children who return their Church Charter forms. These awards will be presented during the Charter assemblies. Please mark the dates in your diary, they are a fantastic end to the school year.

Staffing News Mrs Bashora will begin her Maternity leave this Friday. The staff have already enjoyed treating Sarah to a ’Baby Shower’ and I know many parents wish to join me in sending Sarah, Hamisi and Alice all the very best as they await the arrival of their new family member. New Appointments Over the next few weeks we will be making two new appointments. The infant department has expanded this year and we are now able to employ a ninth teacher. This means that there will no longer be the need for a mixed year 1 and 2 class. However, we do propose to make some small changes to class structure in order to minimise some friendship issues and also for academic needs. Parents of children in Year 1 have been contacted for their comments on friendships. By half term we hope to be able to inform you of a new infant teacher and a new junior teacher.

Fairtrade Tuckshop has arrived at the Infants! The weekly Fairtrade Friday Tuckshop has been very popular in the Juniors with some products selling out in the first 2 weeks! There are a range of snacks and drinks on sale: Geobars – 35p

Cookie twin packs – 45p

Raisins – 35p

Juice - 30p

Chocolate wafer – 25p

Thank you to all families who are able to support our work in raising the profile of Fairtrade and helping to provide a better standard of life for farmers and their families around the world.

Help support Kian’s Fund

Choir dates for Summer

The children of Kian’s class are busy organising a fundraising, ‘Heyhouses Has Got Talent’ working in conjunction with the school PTA and their Variety Show on Friday 25th May. The infant children will be able to perform on Thursday 24th May and the Junior children on Friday 25th May in the morning. In the evening of May 25th, any children whose parents have given permission can also perform for parents at the Variety Show. Heyhouses has got Talent tickets are now on sale, children have been asked for a donation of £1 to watch. Variety Show tickets are on sale £3 for adults, £1 for children. ALL the money raised at both the Variety Show and the Heyhouses Has Got Talent shows will go towards Kian’s Fund. A form will be sent home tonight, please donate towards this fund on the form. Parents are restricted to the PTA evening event due to space in the school hall. Please contact me direct if there is a particular reason why you, as a parent would like to see your child in the school event during the day. The main aim is to raise as much money as possible. Staff have now been trained to use the Defibrillator and while we hope it will be never be necessary, Kian did have an mild ‘attack’ last week and had to be taken by ambulance to hospital. The equipment really is life saving for Kian and it may also save other peoples lives. Please support us.

Saturday 7th July 4 p.m. A special occasion for Mr Westall. We hope the children enjoy these very special occasions. Parents please encourage them to attend at least one of the events. It is always lovely for members of the local community to ask for our children to attend.

We also need your support to take part in a fun fundraising Zumbathon event being hosted by ‘Sue and Jackie Zumba’ on Saturday 2nd June 2p.m.-4p.m. at St Annes YMCA. All funds raised will go towards the defibrillators needed in school for Kian and other children in the future who may be affected by Arrhythmia. No previous experience of Zumba is required and on the day you can participate as much or as little as you wish. Tickets are £10 per person and can be purchased from either the infant or junior office or on the day at the event. A raffle will also be held on the day. Please come and join in the fun! Support this local community charity event.

M.A.D 2012 If you are able to help during MAD Festival 2012 we would love to hear from you. The festival is the hi-light of the school year and we are delighted that every year so many parents wish to join in our activities. This year, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee has added a special feel to the celebrations and we hope more parents than ever will be able to join us at some point during the two weeks. Please complete the form if you are free to help. BIG ART DAY needs lots of helpers! Our Jubilee Picnic on Friday 1st June also needs lots of help. Please support the Jubilee Picnic, we want the children to enjoy an event which they will remember when they are older and retell to their children. Many parents will have memories of the Silver Jubilee, we want the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations to even outshine these festivities. We would like the forms back as soon as possible. Thank you to everyone who volunteered last week.

Summer Fair

Please note the date:

Saturday 16th June 12 noon to 3pm. The children will be asked to bring a donation for the Summer Fair on Friday June 1st, Jubilee Picnic Day. The children will be in their own choice of clothes on this day to ‘celebrate’ the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. They may wear party clothes, red, white and blue clothes or Royal costumes. In addition they need to bring a donation for the Fair, a bottle of wine, a box of chocolates, toiletries, soap, toys, games etc. It is our major fundraiser of the year and makes a massive difference to school. MAD Festival would not be possible without PTA support.

Year 3 Rainforest Cake Bake Many thanks to everyone who bought cakes. We raised a fantastic £230.76 which means we can adopt 9 acres of rainforest!

Parish Rooms Fundraising Bingo On Saturday May 12th, 7pm, held in the Junior School Hall. £1 Adults 50p children, includes light refreshments. Many great prizes to win. All proceeds will go towards installing a lift in the Parish rooms. Puffin Book Orders—Any final orders need to be in by Friday 11th May.

Photographs On Monday 14th May at 2p.m Tempest Photographers will be coming to school to take a photograph of the whole school. This was last done in 2008 and we felt it would be a good way to mark the Jubilee. All 500 children will be placed on a stadium like construction so we can fit all the children in to the picture. Please send your child into school on Monday 14th in their winter uniform. It looks smarter for what will be a historic picture. Class photographs will be taken on Friday 18th May and for these winter uniform will also be needed.
