the shower on your phone and show it to your son/daughter. Begin to prompt them to shower and without using words see by giving them items such as shower gel or a sponge if they know how to use them. Prompt them to wash every part of the body when in the shower and try not to use words. Once the student is fully washed ask them to dry themselves and again prompt when needed. If the student has long hair see if they can brush their hair either independently or with support. Each day try to reduce the amount of help (prompts) for your son/daughter. You could also include this on a daily routine timetable so the student knows when its shower time.
Getting ready:
Activity 1: When getting your son/daughter ready have the clothes lay out.
Prompt them by giving them the clothes they need first. You could write down the order or draw pictures of the clothes in order. Encourage as much independence as you can and set a timer to see how long it takes. Try reducing this time every day and also the amount of support.

Activity 2: If your son/daughter is independent in getting changed then try making it into a race against another family member and see how long it takes.
Tidying up/Doing the Laundry- Get a pile of dirty and clean washing. Ask your son/daughter to organize a pile of clothes into clean and dirty. Provide prompts when needed. Once you have washed some clothes, model how to peg the clothes out and give your child a chance to have a go. If your child enjoys pegging clothes out give them a time limit and make it into a race.
