Term 2 finishes: Friday 20 December
We are already approaching the end of a busy and exciting summer term and another school year!
In the previous newsletter I included some information about the functional skills exams that students in Key Stages 3 and 4 were preparing for. I’m very pleased to say that the vast majority of students passed their exams in Maths and English at Entry Levels 1, 2 and 3. I’m sure you will join me in congratulating everyone for the hard work that was put in to achieve these qualifications.
On Tuesday 25 June a group of students performed a scene from Hamlet, at the Marlowe Theatre, as part of the Shakespeare for Schools festival. The standard of the performance and the confidence of all our young people, within such a large theatre was exceptional and I can say (without any bias ☺) that the St Nicholas school performance was one of the strongest of the night. A big thank you to our specialist drama teacher, Anita Meyer, who expertly supports student’s preparation for this production over several months.
September will be here in a flash, and we are very much looking forward to welcoming our new pupils into Year 2 at Chartham Primary School and Year 7 at Canterbury Academy. We are also excited to have a new class at Canterbury Primary School opening in September, for the children who were previously based in Puffin class at St John’s Primary School. This should be a very positive move that will provide the class with a lot more indoor and outside space for their learning. With a little bit of work with a paint brush and lawnmower the new space will be looking as good as new for September.
In the meantime, I hope that everyone has an enjoyable and relaxing summer break. Many thanks for your ongoing support and commitment throughout the year.
Best wishes
Dave Jenner
