IN NOVEMBER WE REMEMBER THIS WEEK – In RE we have worked together as a class to write our end of topic celebration and we have been adding to our concept map to find out what we have learned. During Literacy, we have listened to and worked with the story of Polar Bear, Polar Bear. We have written labels for the animals from the story and have talked about what the animals did in the story. In maths, we have looked at the number seven, and have looked at the heptagon shape with seven sides and seven vertices. The children have used equipment to find different ways of making 7. During the afternoon, we have conducted an experiment to find out how polar bears keep warm in the snow, using lard and ice cubes. We have also used our Collective worships to help the children to learn about Remembrance Day. Today, they have participated in a 2 minutes’ silence. They have made a poppy to help them remember the soldiers that died in the war. In phonics, we have recapped all of the sounds we have learned and used these sounds to read and write words. We have continued with the oral blending and segmenting activities. Some children have been introduced to n and d. We have looked at the words: is, it, in, am, an, at, I, the and and. NEXT| WEEK – In RE we will be finding out about another faith - Judaism. During Literacy, we will be listening to and working with the story of Brown Bear, Brown Bear. We will be thinking about the describing words within the story and having a go at making up our own stories using the same structure within the Small World area. In maths, we will be looking at the number eight, thinking about shapes related to number eight and looking at one more and one less within 8. During the afternoon, we will be conducting a simple investigation to help us find the best way to free the polar bear from the frozen ice. Within phonics, we will be recapping all the sounds and words we have learned and using the sounds to read and write words. We will also be continuing with the oral blending and segmenting activities. Some children will be introduced to e and u. CHALLENGE FOR THE WEEKEND – Thank you for all of the sources of light homework and the Poppies that you sent in. This weekend we are asking you to find out a simple fact about Judaism and Hanukkah or to help them think of a question that they would like to find out about Judaism. Please send these facts or questions into school on Monday so that we can use them within our topic next week during our Come and See sessions. CHILDREN IN NEED PUDSEY BEAR DAY 16th NOVEMBER – Next week, we will be holding a Spotty day to help Pudsey Bear raise money for children who are less fortunate than we are. We are asking the children to come dressed in anything spotty. Please send in a donation on this day for Children In Need. Don’t forget to send in £1 if your child wants the chance to win a giant Pudsey Bear. The draw will be made next Friday in school. Good luck!
