Letter to Parents 25.03.20

Dear Parents / Carers, It’s break time, so grab a cuppa, head to your quiet space away from your children (we escape to the staff room / toilet, because the children aren’t allowed in there) and have 5 minutes. There’s tip number 1: Establish an adult space in your home, where no children are allowed when you are having a break! First and foremost – thank you. Thank you for keeping your children at home. We were faced with potentially 120 children on Monday morning, we ended up with 28 on Monday and 17 yesterday. Brilliant! Secondly – well done. We are sending you all a virtual hug, because homeschooling your children is new and stressful whether you’ve got 1 or an army of little people wanting your attention, whilst trying to continue your own jobs and get your heads around the challenging situation. We’re learning too, both professionally and personally. Thirdly – we’re here for you. The beauty of technology, means that you can contact us via e-mail: enquiries@saintoswalds.wigan.sch.uk or by direct tweeting us @saintoswalds and we can get back to you as quickly as we can on Monday to Friday. We’re already getting some fantastic tweets about your home-learning activities or questions about log-ins / activities. Keep them coming. If you want to ask a specific teacher a question, please put FAO Mr / Mrs and their name in the Subject box on the email and we will respond. Next – We don’t expect you to become teachers. Most of us have been teaching for decades and still don’t know what the subjunctive verb form is or the difference between Phase 2 and Phase 3 phonics – it’s a minefield! It’s our job to teach that though – not yours! Here’s some tips / suggestions to hopefully help / reassure you: 1. Create a routine – This is what’s normal for children at school. They know when breaks are coming. Have breakfast, get dressed and start at the same time each day – it doesn’t have to be 9:00 a.m. You have to make sure that it works for you and your family. 2. Create the timetable together as a family and display it so everybody knows what’s happening that day – we usually do English and Maths tasks
