Headteacher: Mrs J. Hassan Tuesday 17th March 2020 Corona Virus Update As you will be aware the Government is stepping up its response to the coronavirus. We understand that the Government will be regularly reviewing a decision regarding school closures and they will inform us of the decision. In the meantime, St Oswald’s remains open as usual. We are, however, making a few adjustments. The children will not be gathering together in the hall for whole school or Key Stage events. Our EYFS assembly this week will be filmed and made available for parents to watch rather than inviting them into school. Children are spending a little more time outside in the fresh air and hand washing remains a priority. Please provide your child with tissues so they can catch and bin any coughs or sneezes. We are limiting numbers sitting at tables in the hall. We have implemented additional cleaning across the school, especially on door handles, door plates and light switches. All messages are to go through the school office. At present our lunchtime and after school clubs will run as usual. The advice to students is that they should stay at home if they are unwell with a new, continuous cough or a high temperature to avoid spreading infection to others. From Monday 16th March the guidance states that students should be at home for 14 days. In addition, anyone who lives with someone with symptoms should also self-isolate for 14 days. The 14day period starts from the day when the first person in the house became ill Any student presenting in school with symptoms will be isolated in a room and parents/carers contacted to collect and take home for self-isolation for 14 days. We will only close the school if either Public Health England tell us to do so or if we do not have enough staff to run the school. In either case we will inform you immediately by text, website (www.stoswaldswigan.co.uk) and twitter (@saintoswalds). If we know the length of the closure this will be clearly stated. However, if we do not know how long we will be closed for, we will inform you when we will reopen via the same methods. You will be able to contact school on enquiries@saintoswalds.wigan.sch.uk Please do not direct message on twitter. We will provide you with ideas for activities that you can do with your child/children whilst at home. This, as you will appreciate, is a very difficult time for everyone and we are doing all we can to safeguard our school community.
