Year 2 Spring 2 Homework Group 1 Here is the homework for this half term: READING - EVERY night for a minimum of 15 minutes. Please use the questions in the Reading Book Bands guide we sent home to encourage your child to explain their understanding of what they have read. Comprehension is an important reading skill in Year 2 and one that will be assessed at the end of the year. Children should have their reading journal in school every day. SPELLING – each Friday there will be a spelling test using the weekly spellings below. MATHS - Practice the numbers bonds at the back of the reading journal for weekly ’25 club’ tests. (NB these do not need to be handed in) See the mymaths website for the homework. HOMEWORK PROJECT – See below for the activities that make up this half term’s homework project. They need to be completed and handed in on or before Friday 12th April 2019. These activities can be done in any order. On the homework hand in day, all the children will have the chance to share their work with the class. We look forward to their amazing work!

 Religion – Lent – Write down 3 acts of kindness you can do for someone else during Lent.  English – 500 words writing competition – We are very excited about our writing focus homework for this half term. We have some very talented writers in Year 2 who clearly enjoy writing stories. We are encouraging all children to enter their work into the national writing competition ‘500 Words 2019’. They have a planning pack that they will bring home to assist in their writing. Stories must be submitted online no later than Friday 8th March at 7p.m. TEACHERS WILL NOT BE SUBMITTING THE STORIES – THEY MUST BE SUBMITTED FROM HOME. We would like the children to bring a copy of their story in on homework day to share with the class. Stories can be no longer than 500 words (there is no minimum word count). Maths – Time – quarter past - choose a day. Draw a picture or write a sentence for what you were doing for 3 ‘quarter past’ times e.g. At quarter past 7 I was having a bath. Draw the time on a clock to match. IPC - Buildings – Be a history detective! Find out about your house. How old is it? Do you know who lived there before you? Is it a new bulding or an old building? What are the clues that tell you this?
