Gifts of the Holy Spirit

This week’s prayers are based upon the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit. This Sunday, we celebrated Pentecost which is known as the birthday of the Church.

Monday Wisdom: The ability to see God in everyone and everything, everywhere.

Think about the people in your family and the things that you see when you go out for a walk.

Thank God for them and let them know that you appreciate them.

Tuesday Understanding: The ability to comprehend that we are followers of Christ.

Whenever we plant new seeds, give to charity or forgive someone who upset us we are following in Jesus’ footsteps.

Look for opportunities to show love for someone.

Wednesday Counsel (Right Judgment): The ability to know right from wrong and to choose to do what is right.

Have you ever had to make a difficult decision? Ask yourself how you decided. Did anyone get hurt by your decision? The next time that you need to make a tricky choice, ask God for His guidance.

Piety (Reverence): The ability to have deep respect for God and the church.

Take time to speak to God in prayer. Turn off all distractions and spend time reflecting on what is important in life.

Thursday Knowledge: The ability to understand the meaning of God.

God is love. Spend a moment being thankful for the love that you share with your family and friends – don’t forget to let them know how much you care about them.

Friday Fortitude (Courage): The ability to overcome our fear and to stand up for what is right in the eyes of God. We are all unique, with our own God-given gifts and talents. Sometimes we have to say or do things that might not be popular with our friends or peers. Remember, right is right even if not everyone is doing it!

Fear of the Lord (Wonder and Awe): The ability to be aware that God is all-powerful, all-loving, all-perfect.

Think back to a time when you looked at a special person in your life, a sunset, a beautiful view or painting. Perhaps you listened to a piece of music or heard a wonderful poem. Now thank God for their existence and never take them for granted.
